Use of formaldehyde in kitchen cabinets

Would like to get some feedback on the use of formaldehyde in kitchen cabinets. Noticed during the installation of my kitchen cabinet, my eyes stung and hard to breathe. I suspect it is the release of formaldehyde vapour from the MDF/Plywood used. Would like to seek whether anyone has used other material (other than aluminium).

Read a few articles, formaldehyde is bad long term as it is a carcinogenic agent and also acts as a desensitiser for other chemicals i.e. long term exposure makes us sensitive to other chemicals.

Hence, would like to get forum members to share experience or ideas how to reduce this risk.

Thanks.
