Medical Certificate (MC) not accepted

1. Was sick and took medical leave.

2. Came back to work and gave the MC to the Admin. person. The MC has the name of the clinic, chopped and signed by the doctor.

3. Was told that since I didn't go to a panel clinic, I needed to write a letter explaining why I went to a different clinic, with what I was diagnosed, etc.

4. I'm not trying to claim anything from the company insurance; just giving them the MC to prove that I was really sick on that date.

I told the Admin. person that they're welcome to call the clinic if they needed to verify anything, but she insists that I write a letter before she will accept the MC.

Can I get some feedback on this? Is this a normal practice?

Weird problem with Aztech HomePlug setup

I'm staying in a condo and I've got 3 Aztech HomePlugs set-up accordingly:

1st one is connected to the main router (Time dotCom fiber + Cisco Linksys wifi router)

2nd one is in the study room.

3rd one is in my bedroom.

Everything has been working fine for years, until yesterday. HomePlug #2 showed no network connection; I tried plugging it into two other wall sockets in the same room, but still no network connection.

Tried swapping HomePlug #2 and #3, tried plugging #3 into the other wall sockets in the study room - no luck.

No problems with the HomePlug in the bedroom, regardless whether I use HomePlug #2 or #3, so the issue seems to be isolated to the study room.

Has anyone had this problem? I can't understand why the electrical wiring in the study room would suddenly seem to be (disconnected? separated from?) the rest of the unit.

Recommend Server specs

I'm currently using a couple of secondhand HP desktops. One has a 2.8Ghz Pentium D processor and the other has a 3 Ghz Core2Duo. Each has 2GB RAM.

1. Budget is below 1k for each server
2. Won't be recycling any parts from the existing servers
3. One will be a communications server (running Asterisk) and the other will be the firewall and VPN (running pfSense)
4. Need it urgently; please recommend places that can assemble it by today, if possible
5. No brand preference

Looking for a minimum 2Ghz CPU and 4GB RAM. Will require an extra network card for the pfSense server.

Uptime is the main concern, so please recommend a decent power supply and adequate cooling. They will be sitting inside a closed server rack; air-conditioned only during working hours.

Thanks for your recommendations

Severance Package

I have been employed as a General Manager for four and a half years. I have recently been informed by Management that as part of their cost-cutting measures, my position is being made redundant.

What kind of severance package am I entitled to? I've heard that the standard practice is one month's salary for each year of service. Can anyone confirm this or inform me as to what my company's actual legal obligation might be?

2. If they were to hire someone to fulfill the same job scope in the future, would they be in violation of any labour laws?

I appreciate any feedback or input you can provide.
