Impulse Megastore

So, a friend of mine told me about this Impulse Megastore which opened up a branch in Sunway, I want to ask if anyone here knows about it?

In the past, I have been buying my games from a store in Mid Valley, but i stopped 2 years back because the guy I knew shifted elsewhere. Ever since then, I've only been buying games through my friend who acts like the 'orang tengah' for another seller who sells for cheap, but this is somewhat inconvenient.

Am trying to find a place where the price of consoles, games, peripherals are affordable & standardized. Doesn't need to be cheap, but reasonably ranged. It would be a big plus if the place also caters to pc gamers in particular.

So, is Impulse Megastore that place?

Please share your thoughts, reviews and opinions here. Thank you

Increasing workout days

Well, some time ago I posted about my fitness related activities here and have had a very good experience. I liked how the member's here were especially helpful, and I do enjoy this form of communication rather than me consulting a professional at times

So, on to my dilemma- As of late, I have this nagging feeling in my head which keeps telling me to increase my workout limit from 4 to 5 times a week. It's more than a nagging feeling in fact, since I wake up feeling guilty and pressured for not having adjusted my routine yet.

I've only been working out for 1 year plus, and am pretty comfortable working out 4 times a week since I feel that I can handle it and I have enough rest days. However, of course I feel that I might need to increase the intensity as I go along which contributed to my dilemma.

To keep things simple- Am I overanalyzing, or do I need to force myself out of my comfort zone even if it pressures me greatly? That's the question I want to ask. I've been looking and analyzing a lot of articles online, only to confuse myself further.

So basically, that's what I'd want to know. I hope some of you can at least share input for me to consider. I'm not looking for miracles here (even if that is better) but rather I'm more interested in opinions/perspectives/experiences so I can keep pushing on without hitting a dilemma at every fitness milestone

Career Opportunities for a friend

Hello all =)

As of late, I have a friend who has been struggling for a job but has hit numerous dead ends. I will try to be brief and list out the most problematic issues only, since honestly....he's in a very bad spot now. As in he might even have less than RM 100 left now. He just needs a job urgently.

So far, I've advised him to send out 3-4 resumes every week on jobstreet, but it does not seem to be working. I then advised him to find some freelance work (such as data entry clerk) in between, but the sad thing is that he can't even afford the security deposit (the sum imposed on him which will not be refundable in case he losses important data. And he also can't get any jobs there as a staff in stores/supermarkets around that area since all have been taken by students. Lastly, I advised him to consult his university for help like I did and he said that apparently his university hates him or something.

Anyways...any advice on several of these points will be greatly appreciated:

1. Are there any other sites other than jobstreet which is good? Or are there any tricks/methods to fully utilizing jobstreet for job searches
2. Are there any freelance work which is more flexible, or have no initial cost/desposit to get into?
3. Are there any form of work which he can do from home?
4. Is there anyone willing to take him in as a 'student'?

Additional information[I]- He has experience in doing administrative duties, but mostly he quite good in digital art especially in drawing character art/concepts. However, he only uses SAI to draw and has no prior photoshop skills. He's also living in quite a faraway place, which is in Bangi. He's always a very quiet guy, and feels awkward in social situations. Furthermore he has difficulty expressing himself in English (I don't think that his English is really bad, but obviously he has a very hard time expressing himself to strangers.)

If anyone knows a job opportunity which is right for him, or which can help him to improve his skill set then please recommend them. The only exception is unpaid internship I guess since he has expenses to pay and his family are complete idiots for not even bothering to lend him aid.

If anything is unclear, then please ask and I'll elaborate

Discussion about hot Malaysian Weather

hello all =)

It's that time of the year again when it's all hot and sunny outside. And perhaps the worst thing is that it always happens every year. Pretty much the only way I notice is because I'm just super sensitive towards heat (unfortunately for me).

The main purpose for this topic is to discuss common problems or experiences which comes along with this time of the year, such as heat rashes. They tend to flare up for me, and they tend to look quite obvious on my friends now (especially around the collar area). I am hoping that some users could offer some input or advice regarding this

Otherwise, it would be good to just share experiences. Good, bad or in general about Malaysian weather. Personally, I know a lot of foreign friends, and even they feel that our weather is quite something. Mainly because it is just everchanging.

So that's my part of the story for now, what about you guys? Surely there must be some interesting discussions or opinions out there

Longer Hairstyles for the Office

Hello guys, i have searched these forums and I don't think there has been one which is specifically made to address the issue of how appropriate is it for a guy to keep long hair in a formal/semi-formal setting.

The main purpose of this thread is not to discuss different long hairstyles, its made to talk if it is appropriate or otherwise to have anything longer than a short or medium cut (hairstyles are a secondary concern.)

The reason I am asking is because personally, I just hate short hair alot that I grew to love keeping it long. On the rare occasions I do cut my hair, it was all done out of necessity, and I would feel lacking in self esteem and very crowd-phobic in general. The reverse happens with a longer hair, despite many people frowning about it. In short, let's just say that I'm I'd find any excuse not to cut my long hair.

However, I am somewhat concerned how culturally acceptable is it for a working class male, to work in a professional setting with long hair in Malaysia.

Are there any conditions, or limitations i should follow? Or perhaps it's fine, but as long as its neat?

And if anyone is bothered to discuss this deeper, perhaps share some hair care tips on how to keep long hair tidy (I am really bad at this- I literally wash my hair, rub it with a towel just enough to stop the dripping, and let the wind dry/style my hair.)

If any one needs to know, my bangs seem capable of parting themselves naturally toward the sides and I'd say that I have a big head (literally) if anyone wants to know about the more technical aspects.

Alternatively, any experiences, stories, hairstyles, opinions/criticisms or...whatever in general related to this topic is greatly appreciated

Travelling related phobias help guide

Hello all,

I've noticed that there is a special section in these forums devoted to Travel and Living, and couldn't help but realize that it seems to lack a thread about one particular issue: And that issue is phobia(s) related to travelling.

To be concise, I fully intend this thread to be built from the ground up with the experiences of veteran travelers or members who love to travel in general.

So, to start this thread off, I'll list down my prime phobia when it comes to travelling which is aviatophobia. Aviatophobia is quite simple a fear of flying and the most common of all travelling related phobias. I have a bit of that, but lately I realize that the people around me have experienced it to some degree due to recent unfortunate events.

Currently, I would describe myself as having mild aviatophobia since I can board a plane, but at one point will always feel a sense of helplessness and slight panic since I know that I'm not in control if anything should happen. And a few of my friends experience the same thing but are more severe than what I am going through.

So any advice or experiences about anything aviatophobia would be really much appreciated

And as said earlier, various other kinds of phobias can be discussed as well, as it would benefit (or help) other users in the future.

if anyone has any interesting travel stories, then they are also more than welcome to share them here, since the secondary purpose of this thread is to educate myself more about this aspect of travelling.

Very silent Doggy

Hello all

Let me start by saying that I'm actually no pet owner, and while I do like looking at them, I have no intention of owning one for the mean time because I know that I can't quite spare the upkeep costs and also due to lack of time.

However my landlord does, and this is where I'm a bit concerned. I may have no experience in keeping pets, but I'm sure disciplining or making your pet obedient doesn't involved keeping them in a cage/on a leash most of the time, while threatening them with a stick. I was actually relieved when my owner sold away his previous pets (he kept 2 dogs before, but sold them.)

But I had a bit of a shock yesterday when I saw another dog inside a cage. And it's very troubling since the dog hasn't barked. It hasn't even made the tiniest of noises and this concerns me. It seems to be just passively laying down in the cage. My guess is that this is why my landlord choose it; the dog didn't make noise at all like the previous two pets.

I'm kind of furious and upset that he obviously wants a cute pet, but does not invest the time to take care of it properly.

The main reason I'm posting here is because of the weird behavior exhibited by the dog. Does any pet owner or anyone else experienced with animals know what is going on?

And most likely I won't do this, since the dog is the owner's property and because I really don't have the time too...but is there any way I can help it out a bit while it's locked in a cage.

Really, it's such a pity that I can't do anything since I know that the dog will be largely ignored (it will have food and water, but if you put me in a cage all day like that, then it's not a good life at all).

Working out at Home

Hello guys, I'm a new member around these forums. Just decided to join since I was a lurker before, and this looks like a good place to have conversations and discussions

I noticed that there's a fitness sub-forum here, and I'm always interested in outside opinions/perspective more than professional advice given the nature of my workouts. Professional advice is good, but often does not suit my workout methods at times.

I'll try to be brief- it has been a year since I started working out, and I am used to working out without any equipment. I mainly do calisthenics and body weight exercises. A more specific term would be 'functional exercise' which anyone can google if they are interested to know more. So I do have some questions which I hope to find answers for here:

1. I usually workout 4 times a week. I started out working out everyday, than slowly adjusted it to 5 an d then down to 4 due to a toe injury. Is four times a week a reasonable number? I generally go 20-30 minutes per workout session with my sets, and I tend to sweat heavily and get my heart ready in the morning. I am wondering if the days I spend working out in a week is enough given my workout session times.

2. Occasionally, i will not workout for a week due to my toe injury flaring up or because of CNY. And usually when I come back, it'll take 2-3 workout sessions for me to get used to the strain of my exercises. Is this good or bad for the body? Because I feel most of the time that I'm really pushing my body hard when I do resume my workout.

3. I used to do pull ups and kettlebells before, but I currently lack the facillities to do both for the mean time. I'm working on getting a kettlebell, but I don't think I can install a pullup bar or something where I am staying. So what are good ways to build up/strengthen arm muscles? Currently, I'm doing another variant of push ups (Bending over and spreading my legs, keeping the lower body static, and only moving the upper body while doing push ups). I do them 90 times each session (spread out into 30 reps over the course of 3 sets per sessions). Anyone know how effective this is?

Any comments/would be appreciated, thank you

STEAM Region Lock

Hello people,

I'm currently a newbie here on the Lowyat forums. The reason why I joined was to give myself a proper platform to discuss certain topics with like-minded people in a more local context.

So for my first topic here, I'm interested in knowing what are everyone's comments or opinions about that new STEAM region locking policy for all its games imposed during the month of December in 2014.

The topic name itself it pretty self explanatory, as STEAM games have indeed been region locked according to the location stated on every STEAM account. The lock essentially means that games bought in the South East Asian region can only be traded/gifted within the SEA region, and not to Europe or USA (Conversely, games tied to STEAM accounts outside the SEA regions can not be gifted/traded with local STEAM accounts.)

Here's an example of the policy in effect (I'm pretty sure most people have seen it though):

And this Reddit Post actually goes to great detail in explaining the whole thing if anyone is interested:
Reddit Post

Personally, this affected me on a personal level since I have foreign friends whom I send gifts too for special occasions and I won't be able to do that now. Without going into details, I would just say that this is my biggest complaint about this policy, but I tolerate it because whatever Valve does with their business is also their decision 100%

So, any opinion, suggestions or comments regarding this policy? I could say more, but my first post is long enough as it is and I'd like to keep the discussion open so I'll stop here and let everyone comment
