East Asia will the economic powerhouse region of this decade

All east Asia country successfully contained covid. Economic activity between these countries can continue like normal.

Plus many nearby countries successfully contained covid - Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand.

All these country will also have good economic growth and will help each another economy to grow faster.

They will be taking over from previous pre-covid economic powerhouse

US - Covid cases alot. Plus got rioting/protest.
UK - Covid cases alot. Plus got Brexit issue.
France - Covid cases now higher than first wave.
Germany, Italy - Facing second wave.
India, Brazil - Covid uncontrollable there.
Oil producing countries (Arab Saudi, Iran, etc) - Lockdown/social distancing means less people will travel, means less oil usage. Plus many of them also have alot of covid cases.

These country economy will suffer, as they have continue lockdown/social distancing. Economic activity will also slow down.

Sekian my economic prediction.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/goldman-s...-day-2020-05-07

The coronavirus pandemic will take a lasting chunk out of business travel and hit demand for oil as companies adapt to Zoom ZM, +5.48% and other video-conferencing tools, a Goldman Sachs GS, +3.05% official said Thursday.

“I think you’re going to lose a good chunk of the jet demand that would have been associated with business travel. Our base case is you lose somewhere around 2 to 3 million barrels per day,” said Jeff Currie, Goldman’s global head of commodities research, at a media briefing.

Global oil demand is expected to fall by 9.3 million barrels per day in 2020, according to the International Energy Agency.

Demand for oil has been hurt significantly by the pandemic as countries impose lockdowns to control its spread, and countries have cut supplies. In April, futures for West Texas Intermediate crude traded below zero for the first time ever.

For everything but business travel, Currie expects a strong recovery in demand, but the oil supply could take a little longer to get back online.

“We believe demand will exhibit a V-shaped recovery, but supply will exhibit an L-shaped recovery,” he said, as wells need to come back online, and companies need to increase spending. This could mean demand rises above supply as early as June 1, he said.

But while demand returns to normal, it will be from a base with less business travel. “Before we used to have these internal meetings and things of that nature, and I think this is going to be way more Zoom-oriented, other types of substitutes,” he said.

“Look at the routes that the airlines are planning when they come back, they’re not going to be at the same level that they were previously.”

Airline stocks have plunged since the beginning of the crisis as almost all air traffic has come to a halt. In April British Airways owner IAG warned that the “recovery of passenger demand to 2019 levels will take several years.”

Currie believes the U.S. will recover similarly to China. “So far, we look at the rest of the world, it followed China almost perfectly on the way down and thus far is looking pretty much like China on the recovery,” he said. But the return to pre-crisis levels could come as late as the third quarter of 2022.

Storage facilities are verging on full, and Currie says expensive floating storage units will need to be emptied before prices can start to increase. Inventory levels may take until mid-2020 to normalize, at which point prices will stabilize around $50 per barrel.

400k PPE not meet UK standard

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/...il-uk-standards

Coronavirus PPE: all 400,000 gowns flown from Turkey for NHS fail UK standards

Last month, amid dire warnings of shortages of personal protective equipment for health workers, ministers publicised the imminent arrival from Turkey of a fleet of RAF cargo planes bringing in a “very significant” shipment of PPE for the NHS.

More than a fortnight later, it has emerged that every one of the 400,000 protective gowns that eventually arrived has been impounded after being found not to conform to UK standards.

The Department for Health and Social Care confirmed on Wednesday evening that the items were being held in a facility near Heathrow airport. It is understood that they are due to be sent back and that the DHSC intends to seek a refund, as it has done in similar situations in the past.

The announcement of the shipment by the communities secretary, Robert Jenrick, on 18 April came as unions and professional bodies warned that NHS staff may refuse to work without PPE.

Jenrick told the daily Downing Street press briefing that healthcare workers should be “assured that we are doing everything we can to correct this issue”, saying they would have the equipment they “need and deserve”.

Sources later told the Guardian that the DHSC had advised No 10 not to allow Jenrick to publicise the shipment in case it backfired, but was overruled.

The necessary clearances, it turned out, had not been sought. When the consignment did not arrive on time as promised, the delay prompted hospital leaders to directly attack the government for the first time during the pandemic.

Ministers responded by saying they thought it may only a one-day delay. Two days later, with the shipment only then beginning to clear Turkish customs checks, they were only able to give an estimate of arrival “in the next few days”.

The first planeload of gowns eventually arrived on 22 April, but the next day it was reported that “less than a 10th” of the order had arrived. Now all are expected to be returned.

I thought made in China is already bad. Mana tau made in Turkey is even worst.

Hi stock market sifus,

Want to ask your opinion about Malaysia stock market.

Last month after the big drop, many people keep saying that the rally is dead cat bounce. But stock market keep going up. Now not like dead cat bounce, more like real rally already.

Malaysia ending MCO soon. Bank Negara cut interest rate but share market no drop. Oil price hit bottom already. Even Italy is opening back its country.

US still struggling with coronavirus but Trump want to open fast. Recently come out news US unemployment hit record high but US stock market didn't drop much. Rallying again after a few days.

All bad news like no effect to the market. But when got good news, stock market immediately make huge rally.

Holding cash right now and feeling FOMO very bad.
