State exco Elizabeth Wong says investigations reveal that the source of the odour pollution was identified at the discharge point of a suspected factory and at the river in Bentong.

SHAH ALAM: The Department of Environment (DOE) should review its earlier findings that Sungai Semantan in Pahang is pollution-free because results of preliminary tests conducted by the Selangor government reveal otherwise, according to a Selangor official.

Selangor Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment exco Elizabeth Wong said National Water Services Commission (SPAN) representatives and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd’s (Air Selangor) river surveillance team yesterday identified the source of the odour pollution in Bentong, Pahang.

“Unfortunately, the teams were not able to enter the suspected premises as Pahang DOE officials were not present during the inspection yesterday morning,” she said in a statement.

Wong said the Air Selangor team had been conducting the investigation to identify the source of pollution since Friday (Oct 7) in Pahang, and the source of pollution was identified at the discharge point of a suspected factory and at the river.

She said the odour detected was similar to that found at the Sungai Serai Outlet Portal and Sungai Langat Intake on Friday night.

“Today, the odour was pervasive with levels as high as 18 TON (Threshold Odour Number). The Sungai Serai Outlet Portal is the entry point to Selangor through a dedicated pipeline pumped from the Semantan River intake point,” she explained.

Wong said if the odour pollution persisted, the Pahang-Selangor Water Transfer Project would not be able to proceed due to the water condition from Sungai Semantan.

Pahang DOE Director Rosli Zul was quoted saying that checks conducted at Sungai Semantan on Saturday revealed that the water was free of pollution.

Homeless in Kuala Lumpur
The growing number of homeless people highlights the need for a policy that protects their interests and looks after their welfare and security

According to a 2010 street census by the Social Welfare Department, there are some 1,378 homeless people in Kuala Lumpur alone. This figure, however, is merely an estimate because the two-month survey, carried out with the co-operation of non-governmental organizations, was a broad-scale sampling.

Ruby and Cheah are among the few good samaritans and NGOs who have taken it upon themselves to address the issue of homelessness by providing them food, clothing, medical assistance and shelter.

Cheah counters that those who are homeless often have little choice but to live or spend most of their time in public spaces.

“Who would choose to live out in the hot sun or rain? These people all have sad stories which have resulted in them living on the streets. We get to hear all sorts of stories.

“Some of them are ex-convicts who aren’t welcome or don’t want to go home, some are victims of domestic abuse who have run away from home, some were cheated and have lost all their money and are too embarrassed to return home, some just got mixed up with the wrong crowd and got into drugs, some have mental health issues which make it hard for them to keep a job.

“There are also many who are foreigners who are stuck without a visa and can’t get employment.

“There really is no single reason why people end up on the streets. It could happen to anyone. What the homeless need is help to get back on their feet. This isn’t as simple as finding them jobs. A lot of them need a lot more help. Most of them have a lot of baggage ... a lot of issues which they will have to work through before they can actually hold a job. They need help, whether it is psychological or psychiatric counselling,” says Cheah.

Rusenko feels that while the women, family and community development ministry encourages families to be responsible for the welfare of their members and take care of each other, the situation on the ground indicates that this policy is not realistic.

The first order for policy makers would seem to be: stop blaming those who are experiencing homelessness for their situation and get to the actual root of the problem.

Mata wang ringgit susut nilai serendah 3.76 bebanding satu dollar US hari ini.
Pagi Sabtu plaza tol PLUS Batu 3 tidak menerima bayaran toll dengan Ringgit.

Mata wang ringgit yang bergambarkan Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda
Yang Dipertuan Agong dan diiktiraf dengan tanda tangan Gabenor Bank Negara,
Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz tidak diterima sebagai wang yang sah untuk bayaran
tol RM1.10 pun yang dikenakan oleh PLUS bagi setiap kereta kelas satu.

Bagi seorang rakyat Malaysia, ini bagaikan satu penghinaan kepada negara Malaysia
dimana badan korporat Malaysia sendiri enggan menerima wang tunai sah 1Malaysia.

Malaysia Menyindir Sendiri, Tanpa IS
Gadis Melayu tol telah dididik untuk menolak pembayaran tunai dipintu tol dengan
mengatakan tol ini hanya menerima kad 'Touch'N'Go' sahaja, sedangkan tiada pintu
tol yang memaparkan kebolehan untuk menerima dan berurus niaga secara tunai.

Apabila pengguna jalan bertanya, 'kenapa kamu boleh jual kad TnG secara tunai
tetapi enggan menerima bayaran untuk laluan tol secara tunai?' Pekerja PLUS itu
mengulangi skrip yang telah diajar dan enggan mengiktirafkan mata wang ringgit
untuk bayaran laluan tol.

"Ini wang Ringgit Malaysia keluaran Kerajaan Malaysia pun kamu (rakyat Malaysia
dan syarikat PLUS) pun tak nak terima?"

Adakah korporat besar PLUS telah mendidik warga kerja Malaysia untuk mengabaikan
mata wang sah yang dikeluarkan oleh Bank Negara Malaysia dinegara sendiri?

Sebagai rakyat Malaysia, memangnya jijik bila difikirkan badan korporat Malaysia
yang dilesenkan oleh Kerajaan Malaysia sendiri boleh beroperasi enggan menerima
mata wang sah di bandar Shah Alam, dalam negara Malaysia.

Nilai Wang Ringgit Diperkecilkan Lagi
Bayar RM15 kepada PLUS tapi hanya boleh guna RM5 untuk bayaran Touch'N'Go saja?
Lagi kad T'n'G hanya boleh digunakan selama lebih kurang 10 tahun sahaja.

Nilai wang dalam kad pun bukannya dapat bunga seperti akaun simpanan dibank.

Adakah ini cara perniagaan yang diterima oleh orang Malaysia dimana PLUS
setiap tahun mengaut keuntungan berjuta-juta ringgit dengan cara ini boleh
diterima sebagai halal oleh bank-bank Islam?

Wartawan Utusan, NSTP, MediaPrima TV3 ataupun BERNAMA tidak melaporkan hal ini,
sungguh pun Malaysia dikatakan mempunyai kebebasan dalam melaporkan berita.

Lebih Mangsa Malaysia Yang Berdiam Diri Dibuli
Yang menjadi mangsa ialah rakyat Malaysia sendiri dari luar bandar yang berkunjung
ke ibukota yang dikenakan bayaran RM15 untuk kad TnG dengan nilai RM5 sahaja.
Maybank, CIMB, Affin Bank dan lain-lain bank pun tidak menipu pengguna sebegini
apabila mengeluarkan kad debit kepada pelanggannya.

Sementara itu, pengguna jalanraya yang lain pula dipaksa menunggu beratur panjang.

Kerajaan Malaysia menyediakan ruang untuk mendengar pendapat tapi orang ramai
takut atau tidak mengetahui untuk bersuara dilaman berikut

Di zaman ini tahun 2015, dimana ahli parlimen dibawa ke balai baru-baru ini tapi

Adakah rakyat Malaysia akan terus menerima perbuatan oleh badan korporat seperti ini?
