GrabCar has access to your phone info

This post is to see if anyone know of this.
I've read some and heard some personal stories from friends who claim this to be so.

Supposedly some evidence indicating so is when you submit a report to support within the app.
You'll received a email notifying you that your report has been received and someone will get back to you shortly.

A couple of my friends and I have tested this out, and it is true.
Within said email - you can see the following information at the bottom most of the email

BRAND : XXX
CPU_ABI : XXX
CPU_ABI2 : XXX
MANUFACTURER : XXX
MODEL : XXX

Although this may not be something significant to some - to the rest of us, it begs the question, what other information do the have access or already have from your device?

Other stories I've heard is as follows:

"Recently I've sold my phone (Samsung) to my friend as I was getting the new iPhone. As my friend did not use a smart phone before I helped him to download some basic apps.
Among those apps is Grab, considering that he doesn't drive and uses public transport a lot, this could really change his commute.

During this time GrabCar was having their Visa promo (RM5 off for 6 rides) so I told him about it, and he was very happy because his first few rides would be either free or much cheaper. After his first ride, he received an SMS saying that he was charged the full fare without the discount. Confused and angry, he then lodged a complaint asking why he wasn't given the discount.

GrabCar replied the next day, saying "Kindly be advised that you have utilized the Visa promo for your mobile number (my number), hence the promo did not trigger for the booking id XXX" which confused both of us. He had created a new account (his number, and email) so why are they still referring to my number?"

When we first heard this story, it confused many of us as well, however, if GrabCar do have access to your device info and is keeping that info to ID each of their customer, then it makes sense. Else why would they be able to link that device to the previous owner's number?

What do you think?

Original thread : https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3959375

Hi guys,

This happened quite a while back, he said that the wall has been bulging little by little over time, an recently its gotten to look more and more dangerous, so he feel that its time he get it fixed.

As I don't know any contractors myself (not good ones anyway) - I'm hoping someone here can provide a good one or a rough quotation on what the price should be. We've gotten quotations ranging from RM700 to more than RM5000.

Attached are some of the pictures that he provided.

Some extra info to the problem is that - the tiles were pasted onto the original wall, hence no hacking of the original wall was involved.

House Wall Repair

Hi guys,

Recently my friend asked me for help for a problem that he had for quite a while - but he didn't have time nor know the people who can actually help him. He asked around and called up some people that he found on the newspaper and some contractors recommended by his friends, but he feels that they are conning him, as the price ranges from couple hundred to few thousand.

According to him this happened quite a while back, he said that the wall has been bulging little by little over time, an recently its gotten to look more and more dangerous, so he feel that its time he get it fixed.

He had some bad experience with contractors in the past where they charged him a fairly high amount, looked professional and assured him that the problem was solved, but then later found out that they actually done a shitty job. So he is quite skeptical of contractors till now.

As I don't know any contractors myself (not good ones anyway) - I'm hoping someone here can provide a good one.

Attached are some of the pictures that he provided.

Some extra info to the problem is that - the tiles were pasted onto the original wall, hence no hacking of the original wall was involved.

Car Accident

Hi guys,

I recently got into an accident with 2 cars.

Here is the situation - the car in-front of me brakes and I follow, however, after I stopped completely, the car behind me rams into me and pushes me forward and I hit the car in-front.

All parties have made our police report, am now waiting for the keputusan.
Luckily the driver in-front noticed that I had stopped completely, before I hit him afterwards.
So both of your reports points to the driver of the 3rd car to be at fault.

This is my first time, so I would like to know what should be the next step?

I was told that I had to wait (2 weeks) for the keputusan before I can send it to the workshop (panel approved), but then the first driver said that he had already have his car fixed.
But then I was told that if I wait for more than 2 weeks before sending my car in to the workshop to fix - then I would have send a letter to my insurance company explaining why I took more than 2-weeks before sending it in.

All help is appreciated.

How to find who or what called you

I just received a phone call recently from a number that I have so far failed to find being listed anywhere. Is there any other way to find out? You know... Other than calling it. It's a land-line, most probably a office somewhere.

Most of the time - you would be able to find out something about the number who you received a missed call from, just by simply searching for that number online (such as banks or head hunters, etc) but in this case, I wasn't able to.

Trust me - as I've received numerous anonymous missed calls from banks and brokers who are operating under banks, and have almost all the time be able to know exactly with whom am I dealing with.

Just a tip for those who experiences such a event - my advice would be - DO NOT call the number back immediately, UNLESS you know who you are calling or only IF you are expecting a call from someone at that TIME of day.

From what I've read, most of the scammers who gives you a call will most like leave you alone if you did not answer the phone (or just skip you as a potential target, at least for a while as they've got many more numbers to try out).

Therefore, and I would like to emphasize that this is just my opinion, do not call them back immediately as you would most likely be putting a target on your back.

iPad 2 Screen Cracked

Hi guys, I would like to know how much would it cost to replace a broken screen on a iPad 2 (not iPad Air 2). This is because if the replacement cost is reasonable I would like to continue to use it. I have done some searches online myself, but I would like to seek actual updated advice. And how much would the screen cost?

It is only the screen that has cracked, the iPad is still running perfectly fine.

I have found replacement screens ranging from RM 50 up to RM 100 and I was informed that there are cheap replacement screens and there are "good" ones. Preferably I would opt for the good one if it is really a RM 50 difference.

Thanks.
