Build For Video Editing

Hi all,

I’m into building a new rig, main purpose for video editing & rendering. Mainly will be using Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Lightroom + Photoshop as well. Mostly 1080P work, once awhile some 4K work.

Budget around 5K (not sure if that’s too low or good enough?) excluding monitor. I already have a Dell 27” 1440p monitor.

Sifus please help advice. No preference for any particular brands, preferably with good feedbacks and reviews.

Computer Setup Recommendation

Hi all,

Seeking recommendations from fellow photographers and videographers.

I'm currently using an aging Dell laptop. My custom desktop PC is also very much semi retired.

Budget: Approx. RM10,000
Preference: Mac (I've been using PowerBook long ago, and went for Dell due to budget constraint a few years ago)

Recently I've been doing a decent amount of travelling work, thus a new laptop is a must. However I'm also looking at a desktop for faster processing ie. 4K rendering and bigger screen for viewing comfort and long hours editing.

Here's what I've been thinking:

1. 1 top of the line 15" MBP (That will eat my entire budget)
2. 1 13" MBP / MacBook + 1 iMac / custom Windows PC

The reason why I'd prefer mac for travelling due to stability. I've had enough of problems with Windows system especially when away.

And I've never done workflow simultaneously on Mac and Windows. I'd be less headache if both laptop & desktop are running on same system.

I do a lot of heavy Lightroom raw processing and Premiere 4K rendering. Your recommendations are appreciated!

PS3 Slim HDMI Problem

Hi all,

I have spent hours on Google regarding HDMI issues with PS3 but I still can't rectify my problem.

My devices:
*PS3 Slim 2009
*LG 42" TV (1080p)
*Samsung 24" LCD Monitor (1080p)
*Generic HDMI cable (I have 2)
*Original PS3 A/V Composite cable

My problem:
I have no trouble whatsoever with the PS3 all the while hooked up to the Samsung 24" LCD Monitor with HDMI cable. Then I stop playing for about 3 months since I was away from home. So I came back and try to power up and there's no display. Samsung monitor is on HDMI input and it says No Signal. PS3 light indication is normal (both console and controller). Turn on plug, console red light, press power button it beeps and turn green as normal. No signal on monitor. Press again, green led blink a few times and shut down back to red (again very normal).

So I unplug it and hook it up to my LG 42" TV (never tested on this TV before), again same thing, no signal on the TV's HDMI input.

Then I remove the HDMI cable and use the A/V Composite cable that comes with the PS3, now it turns on normally, everything is working like normal, just that the display quality sucks, because it's not HD.

What I tried (so far none worked):
1) PS3 Video Reset
Instruction was to press and hold power button (while console is off - red led) for about 5 seconds. I hear first beep, but the second beep never came, even if I hold for more than 10 seconds. When I let go, after a while I press the power button again, it blinks a few time and turn off as normal. (No 2nd beep or 3rd beep whatsoever, only first beep).

2) Detect HDMI using A/V signal
I power up the console with A/V, works normally. Go to Display Settings, try to switch to HDMI (while HDMI cable is plugged in), screen go blank for 30 seconds (in the mean time switch TV input to HDMI) still no signal/display. Then screen comes back to A/V.

3) Reset Settings
Tried reset to factory settings, after PS3 reboot HDMI still No Signal. But power up normally when I use A/V.

*Both HDMI cables are working fine. Tested both ends of both cables between the TV & Monitor to UNIFI Hypp TV and my laptop as well.

*The only thing I haven't tried is full factory restore, which I'm reluctant to do with all my stuffs in the console. Even I have a backup but to restore will take hours. This is a last resort.

*I'm thinking can it be that the console HDMI port is fried? When I held it up under the lights I don't see any burn marks.

Any PS3 experts here care to comment?
