https://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/mayb...qmjizI.facebook

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 2): Maybank Singapore Ltd has filed a suit against National Feedlot Corp Sdn Bhd (NFC) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail and his two children for defaulting on two housing loan facilities for properties in Singapore.

Maybank Singapore, which is the plaintiff, filed the suit at the High Court registry here on July 19 through law firm Messrs Benjamin Dawson. The suit named Mohamad Salleh as the first defendant, while his children Wan Shahinur Izran and Wan Izzana Fatimah Zabedah were named as second and third defendants respectively.

Mohamad Salleh is the husband of former women, family and community development minister Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who is also former Wanita Umno chief.

According to the statement of claim sighted by theedgemarkets.com today, Maybank Singapore is seeking the court's judgement on a total of S$2.53 million being the outstanding amount under the loan facilities that the defendants still owed with the bank.

For the first housing loan facility, Maybank Singapore granted a loan of S$4.37 million in 2009 to the three defendants to finance the purchase of a luxury apartment in Orchard Scotts.

However, the three defendants defaulted in the monthly instalment payments of S$7,225, with S$3.94 million being the outstanding amount due as at June 22, 2018, together with all accrued interests.

After the defendants failed to pay the sum demanded, Maybank Singapore then exercised its rights by repossessing and selling the property through an auction at the price of S$3.2 million. The sale, however, was insufficient to settle the whole outstanding amount, and as at Dec 29, 2020, the sum of S$1.37 million remains due.

For the second housing facility, Maybank Singapore granted a loan of S$5.38 million in 2010 to the first two defendants to finance the purchase of a luxury condominium in Marina Bay.

Again, Mohamad Salleh and Wan Shahinur Izran defaulted on the monthly instalment payments of S$8,700, with S$5.06 million being the outstanding amount due as at June 4, 2018, together with all accrued interests.

Maybank Singapore also then exercised its rights by repossessing and selling the property through a private treaty sale at the price of S$4.68 million. The sale, however, was insufficient to settle the whole outstanding amount, and as at Dec 29, 2020, the sum of S$1.17 million remains due.

The suit alleged that all three defendants have failed, ignored and/or neglected to pay the sum demanded, which resulted in the bank pursuing the matter through the Malaysian courts.

It is worth noting that the family is also embroiled in a RM250 million suit by the Malaysian government. Under the suit, the government is seeking RM253.62 million, representing the sum owed by NFC, with a 2% interest from May 1, 2019.

They are accused of misappropriating and wrongly using RM118 million from a RM250 million loan granted to NFC by the government in December 2007 to set up and operate a national feedlot centre in Gemas.

Surin Murugiah
This is to make space for more Covid-19 patients in public healthcare.

According to a letter addressed to Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) president Dr Kuljit Singh, the government directive came into force yesterday.

Anyone has the full news for this?
After transfer to private, who foot the bill?

They steal our flying car idea

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/ne...gy-57651843.amp
Why Malaysia so slow??

A prototype flying car has completed a 35-minute flight between international airports in Nitra and Bratislava, Slovakia.

The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.

Its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said it could fly about 1,000km (600 miles), at a height of 8,200ft (2,500m), and had clocked up 40 hours in the air so far.

It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft.

'Very pleasant'
The narrow wings fold down along the sides of the car.

Prof Klein drove it straight off the runway and into town upon arrival, watched by invited reporters.

He described the experience, early on Monday morning, as "normal" and "very pleasant".

In the air, the vehicle reached a cruising speed of 170km/h.

It can carry two people, with a combined weight limit of 200kg (31 stone).

But unlike drone-taxi prototypes, it cannot take off and land vertically and requires a runway.

There are high expectations for the nascent market in flying cars, which have long been heralded in popular culture as a visionary landmark of the future.

In 2019, consultant company Morgan Stanley predicted the sector could be worth $1.5trillion (£1tn) by 2040.

And at an industry event on Tuesday, Hyundai Motors Europe chief executive Michael Cole called the concept "part of our future".

It is considered a potential solution to the strain on existing transport infrastructures.

'Huge market'
The company behind AirCar, Klein Vision, says the prototype has taken about two years to develop and cost "less than 2m euros" (£1.7m) in investment.

Anton Zajac, an adviser and investor in Klein Vision, said if the company could attract even a small percentage of global airline or taxi sales, it would be hugely successful.

"There are about 40,000 orders of aircraft in the United States alone," he said.

"And if we convert 5% of those, to change the aircraft for the flying car - we have a huge market."

'Really cool'
Dr Stephen Wright, senior research fellow in avionics and aircraft, at the University of the West of England, described the AirCar as "the lovechild of a Bugatti Veyron and a Cesna 172".

And he did not think the vehicle would be particularly loud or uneconomical in terms of fuel costs, compared with other aircraft.

"I have to admit that this looks really cool - but I've got a hundred questions about certification," Dr Wright said.

"Anyone can make an aeroplane but the trick is making one that flies and flies and flies for the thick end of a million hours, with a person on board, without having an incident.

"I can't wait to see the piece of paper that says this is safe to fly and safe to sell."

Foreign students’ degrees unrecognised after MQA revokes accreditation for LimKokWing courses

BY SHAHRIN AIZAT NOORSHAHRIZAM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Upon finding out that the accreditation for the course they had taken has been revoked by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), two student representatives from the LimKokWing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) expressed concern over their future.

A foreign student representative from the university who only wished to be identified as Mohamad said that more than 800 foreign students are affected by the issue including the visa renewal process that has been delayed up to 14 weeks.

“We, the students, are about to embark on our professional careers with great uncertainty and fear. Numerous Bachelors, MBA (Masters of Business Administration degree) and PhD courses have had their accreditation revoked by the MQA — this is because of LimKokWing’s inability to maintain certain requirements and standards set by the relevant authorities,” one of the students said during a press conference organised by DAP at their headquarters

Mohammed said that he started MBA in 2018 before the course was revoked by MQA in 2019 and was told by the university that he can finish the course but the “qualification” might not be recognised.

“It’s not just me, more than 800 foreign students are also going through the same thing,” he added.

Former deputy education minister Teo Nie Ching said that the program that the students signed up for was fully accredited but then revoked due to unsatisfactory quality of the course.

She suggested that the university should take corrective action towards the issue and reapply for the accreditation.

“So what the university can do is they need to take immediate corrective actions and then reapply for accreditation.

“For last year (since the revocation) until now, remedy action has not been taken or if they have taken any, it’s not good enough to persuade MQA to give them (LimKokWing university) full accreditation. I hope that LimKokWing can sort this out for its students,” DAP’s Kulai lawmaker said.

HDD and SSD going to be triple the price in 2022

https://www.chia.net/

Is the newest crypto that utilises the harddrive space as Proof of stake.
If this blows up. Basically going to have GPU and SDD +HDD shortage.
1TB hardrive for 700myr next time. Don't say I don't warning first.
Better stock up on your SSD

The popularity of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin has resulted in shortages of graphics cards as miners buy them in bulk. Now a new cryptocurrency is set to create another component shortage, only this time its hard drives and SSDs that will become hard to find.

The new cryptocurrency is called Chia, and it was created by Bram Cohen (Chia Network) who is best known for developing the peer-to-peer BitTorrent protocol. As Tom's Hardware reports, Chia uses a proof of space time model rather than Bitcoin's proof of work model. That difference means Chia relies on storage rather than processing performance to mine, and it means a lot less wasted electricity in the process.

Although Chia isn't being traded yet, apparently prospective miners in China are preparing by purchasing as many hard drives and SSDs as they can afford, meaning all 4TB to 18TB drives are in high demand. Pricing is already expected to increase, and ultimately we are probably going to see shortages unless manufacturers can react quickly enough to keep up. Performance SSDs are already selling out, and manufacturers are set to respond by both restricting sales to miners and increasing production where possible.

Back in 2018, Chia raised $3.395 million in seed funding, which demonstrates how much interest there already is in the new cryptocurrency. Much of that interest is likely to be from investors who wish they'd seen the potential of Bitcoin early and invested heavily when it first appeared. The good news is that ultimately it will be the high-end enterprise drives that become the best way to mine Chia, so hopefully any impact on consumer models will be short-lived.

Former bank president among 4 nabbed by MACC
Robin Augustin -March 31, 2021 1:48 PM

The four are said to have taken kickbacks from a RM400 million loan for a non-existent project. (MACC pic)
PETALING JAYA: A former bank president and three others have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over a RM400 million loan for a non-existent project.

A source in the know said the former bank president, a “Datuk” also served as the bank’s managing director. The four suspects are aged between 49 and 53.

“They were arrested around Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening. They are understood to have accepted bribes amounting to S$3.1 million as a commission for approving a RM400 million loan for a company.

“This was a very slick move by those involved. The company worked with people inside the bank to come up with a non-existent project and apply for funding.”

Once the loan was approved, the company folded and the project was not implemented.

“The former bank president gave special permission for the loan to be approved. It did not follow procedures, there was no due diligence.”

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the arrests. He said the case was being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act.

All four suspects were brought to the Putrajaya magistrates’ court for a remand order where a three-day remand order was granted.

Or use your refund money to cover first

March 22, 2021 20:59 pm +08
AirAsia to acquire remaining 20% stake in BigLife for RM103m
KUALA LUMPUR (March 22): AirAsia Group Bhd (AAGB), which is in the midst of raising fresh capital to ease tight cash flow, announced that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Aimia Holdings UK II Ltd to buy the remaining 20% equity interest in BigLife Sdn Bhd held by the latter for RM103.04 million.

The low cost carrier said the acquisition will be settled by issuing 85.86 million new AAGB shares, which is equivalent to a 2.2% stake, to Aimia at RM1.20 per share.

At the closing bell today, AAGB's share price was unchanged at RM1.19, valuing the group at RM4.54 billion.

Aimia's shareholding in AAGB will increase to about 3.1%, should the acquisition materialise, from a 0.93% stake, which Aimia bought via the subscription to the airline's second tranche of private placement recently.

The second tranche of placement was priced at 86.5 sen, which is nearly 39% lower than the transaction price of RM1.20.

AAGB said the transaction is expected to complete before the end of May 2021.

"As a reputable global institutional investor that has recently come on board through our private share placement, we are thrilled with Aimia's decision to strengthen their position in AirAsia, giving us further confidence in our turnaround strategy post-pandemic, continuing with our digital pivot and solidifying our data-driven businesses," said AAGB's controlling shareholder and chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

BigLife which started out as a standard airline rewards programme has now expanded to offer a much broader digital currency for consumers to earn and redeem BIG Points across a strong ecosystem of synergistic travel and lifestyle products, beyond the airasia super app platform, said Fernandes, whose shareholding is being diluted as the airline issues more new shares.

"BigLife's BIG Rewards is already one of ASEAN's largest lifestyle rewards platforms with over 25 million members. As we continue to diversify and offer an even larger range of products and services leveraging our travel and lifestyle ecosystem via the airasia super app, BigLife is on track to become the most beneficial loyalty currency in the region.

"With full ownership of BigLife, we will have more flexibility to drive innovation and growth to become ASEAN's No 1 redemption platform, including our points exchange programme — BIG Xchange, that allows members to convert banking and other loyalty points immediately as a universal exchange hub for two way conversion between loyalty points," he added.

KUCHING: Police investigation into an incident where a 16-year-old girl was raped by a male detainee while being held at the Miri police station lock-up on Jan 9 found that a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera did not have a recording function.

Sarawak police commissioner Aidi Ismail said he had instructed his deputy Fisol Salleh to coordinate the internal investigation and the results would be known this week.

“There is a CCTV camera installed in the lock-up, but it does not have recording function and it can only be monitored by personnel on duty. I have also instructed the investigation team to look into it,” he said at a press conference here today.

Aidi said the case is currently being investigated by the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department of the Sarawak police contingent headquarters together with the Miri district police.

“Based on the statements from the witnesses, we found that the incident (rape) did occur in the lock-up,” he said.

Aidi had previously said that police would conduct a detailed investigation into the allegation on whether there were elements of negligence in the case.

Two personnel on duty on the day the incident took place were immediately suspended.

Senator Alan Ling Sie Kiong, through a posting on his Facebook account on Saturday, said that a teenage girl has lodged a police report over the incident.
Malaysia Airlines introduces AR baggage scanner but it doesn’t work at all

Travelling can be a stressful experience but you can avoid unnecessary surprises with early preparation. If you’re taking a flight with no free baggage allowance, Malaysia Airlines has introduced a new feature in its mobile app that supposedly lets you know if your carry-on bag will fit in the plane’s overhead bins.

The feature is called Baggage Scanner and according to Malaysia Airlines it is now available in its mobile app. At the time of writing, it seems to be available only on the iOS version as we couldn’t find the feature in the Android app.

The Baggage Scanner feature uses your smartphone’s camera and it utilises Augmented Reality to determine the size of your bag. Obviously, it helps if you have good lighting and you’ll need to scan your actual bag at various angles. According to the app, your phone might get warm and drain more battery if you use it for more than 300 seconds (5 minutes).
AR scanning is tricky to use

The instructions aren’t that clear and it looks like you’ll need to stand back to get a good view of your luggage. From the illustration, the luggage must be placed at an upright position and you’ll need to scan from a top angle.

When it detects your luggage, a pop-up will appear to show the distance and the size of the bounding box. You can resize and reposition the bounding box to match the footprint of your luggage and you’re not supposed to move the actual luggage while you’re scanning.

It just doesn’t work at all

As you go along, you’ll see dots forming around your luggage but there’s no indication of the progress. You’ll just have to move your phone to capture as much details as possible. If you stop too soon, an error message will pop-up to prompt that the scan is incomplete and you can choose to continue scanning.

We’ve tried a number of times for a cabin compatible Xiaomi luggage, Greenroom 136 Rainmaker backpack and even a small box which we believe will definitely fit the space underneath the seat. Unfortunately, all items scanned returned the message “Sorry! Your baggage doesn’t meet cabin luggage size requirements.”

When you click on “More Information”, it leads to a page about Cabin Baggage. The page only mentions the permitted cabin luggage weight for economy and business class without any info on the actual dimensions which is equally as important. According to Malaysia Airlines, economy passengers can bring 1 cabin luggage not exceeding 7kg while business class passengers can bring up to 2 pieces and not exceeding 14kg in total.

According to AirAsia, the dimensions for cabin luggage for the overhead bin are 56cm x 36cm x 23cm, while the small luggage that can be kept under your seat must not exceed 30cm x 40cm x 10cm. If you’re not sure if your luggage can fit, probably it’s best that you use a measuring tape instead.

https://www.soyacincau.com/2020/11/23/malay...ge-scanner-app/
