Linksys WRT54GL

hi, i've just gotten myself a linksys wrt54gl ver 1.1 and understand that it does support third party firmwares (like dd-wrt, etc). but i didnt know it doesnt have an internal adsl modem, so now should i get another cheap modem and stick with it or sell it off and get another wifi modem+router?

if i were to get another modem, which adsl modem should i get? any cheap modems will do?

thanks!

single / dual channel performance on p4

ok, since i didnt get any reply on my other thread, i would make this poll instead, and then decide what to buy.

so i would be buying a motherboard for my p4 2.4ghz, i have one extra 2gb 800mhz ddr2 dual-kit and 8600gt gpu.

is there significant difference if my mentioned specs above are to run in single channel mode or dual channel mode?

ps: its a P4 system.

thanks.

regarding my mobo.

as stated in my sig, i was looking for a socket 478 which could supprots ddr2 and pcie.

i'd prefer an intel 945 chipset mobo and found out 2 mobos are 945 based.

msi 945gcm4 and solar se945g.

the msi one is hard to come by now and most sellers here in lyn has already sold thiers.

then i found out that in Prestige IT's pricelist there's this Solar SE945G motherboard. well first of all im not in kl now so is there anybody who is kind enough to help me check if Prestige IT still have stock of it, please?

the model is Solar SE945G, which is suppose to be a socket 478 motherboard supporting ddr2 and pcie.

i know there's still another brand out there which is biostar p4m900 but that board is via p4m900 chipset, which doesnt supports dual channel memory.

currently im planning to use the mobo for my 2.4ghz p4, 800mhz 2gb dual-channel ddr2 kit and pcie 8600gt.

would the difference be very significance between running in dual channel mode or running in single channel mode (i mean for my case here with the specs as stated above)?

because i'd be planning to buy the motherboard before CNY so that i could bring it back to my hometown. my current p4 mobo(the comp is back in my hometown) just went kaput recently and this CNY is the only chance where i could go back there to fix / change it, im currently studying in johore and my hometown is in kedah.

so can anyone enlighten me should i just go with the biostar mobo which is via p4m900 chipset or continue looking for the intel 945 chipset motherboard?

ps: still, please do help me check if prestige IT still have stocks for their Solar SE945G motherboard or not.

MANY THANKS!

Need help in solving harddisk problem

HI everyone, is there any other threads about hdd so i could seek help or move into there?

anyway, so i had this sata seagate 80gb hd from laptop, this is what happened.

i was planning to redistribute the partition. originally it has 10+Gb on first partition(drive c : windows root), 60+Gb on second partition(drive d) and 2Gb unpartitioned space and of course the 8Mb buffer space.

(Using Windows XP proffesional CD); deleting the first partition(drive c) was ok, but somehow when i was deleting the 60+Gb partition, the whole thing hanged(screen asked us to press "L" to confirm deleting partition, "L" was pressed and the whole process hanged there).

so i switched off and restart booting tru winxp cd and during the "scanning for hardware configuration..." page, the screen went blank and nothing happened (cd stopped spinning too).

i switched the hardisk to another laptop(friend's lappy) and tried, the same thing happened.

afterthat i took the hd and tried it on a PC with winXP. the hd failed to showed up(not detected in windows) when i tried connecting it tru usb (i bought a hd enclosure for this purpose); i tried connecting it to e-SATA port and windows didnt detect anything too.

while still connected to eSATA on my pc i tried booting tru windows cd again and and windows setup screen stops (at the screen when "starting windows..." is displayed at the bottom left corner), there're no activities(cpu LED not lighting up) and even the cd stop spinning. i pull out the hd and windows setup continues. tried it using usb and same thing happens.

during all of these (laptop and pc) bios was able to detect the hd, but why doesnt it show up in windows or work in windows setup? is there any way to repartition or reformat this hd? thanks.

really need help in this.

thanks again.
