What language and technology to learn

Hi all, I have been working in the OnG industry for some time now. But my passion have always been programing. Even though my job does not require me to write programs I wrote programs throughout my career to automate many things. It has always been my passion.

Right now the OnG industry isn't looking too good though my employer haven't select me for layoff I would like to prepare to jump to the IT world.

A bit about my back ground I did chemical engineering but while in uni I took 2 papers in computer science 1) Java programing and Ruby web development. I am still familiar with java.

I would like to get the the suggestions of the sifus here about which programing language or technology is and will be in demand. Are certifications that I can get online useful? If so which one? And who will most likely employ me after attaining those skill and certs.

Btw, I think I have talent in coding and technology so learning it shouldn't be too much trouble.
