Polis wanita menyamar orang awam tangkap peragut

SEREMBAN - Polis Negeri Sembilan menukar strategi, menggunakan anggota polis wanitanya menyamar sebagai orang awam bagi menangani jenayah ragut di bandar ini.

Timbalan Ketua Polis negeri, Senior Asisten Komisioner (SAC) Datuk Hamzah Md Jamil berkata, anggota polis wanita itu menyamar sebagai orang awam dengan memakai barangan kemas dan membawa beg tangan.

"Mereka ini ditempatkan dua minggu lepas di tempat tumpuan awam seperti di pasar raya, terminal bas, bank dan sebagainya. Anggota polis wanita ini digunakan sebagai 'umpan' untuk menangkap penjenayah kes ragut.

"Kami mengenal pasti 28 anggota polis wanita ini, yang telah dilatih menghadapi situasi apabila diragut. Jadi, saya beri amaran kepada penjenayah agar jangan sebarang ragut," katanya kepada pemberita selepas perbarisan Peringatan Hari Polis Ke-208 Kontinjen Negeri Sembilan di Sekolah Latihan Kontinjen Negeri Sembilan di sini, hari ini.

Mengikut rekod terdapat lapan kes jenayah ragut berlaku sepanjang bulan ini di sekitar Seremban dan Nilai.

Katanya, orang ramai tidak perlu bimbang, walaupun tidak kelihatan anggota polis berpakaian uniform di tempat tumpuan orang ramai, tetapi terdapat anggota
polis yang berpakaian orang awam.

Katanya jenayah ragut tidak mengenal usia dan tiada belas ihsan walaupun yang menjadi mangsa adalah warga emas terutama golongan wanita.

"Perubahan masa menyaksikan ragut sebagai satu jenayah serius yang sejak akhir-akhir ini turut meragut nyawa manusia. Fenomena ini membawa satu lagi amaran kepada wanita supaya lebih berhati-hati dalam kehidupan seharian mereka terutama ketika berada di tempat awam.

"Pihak polis memandang serius jenayah ragut kerana ia menimbulkan keadaan traumatik kepada mangsa. Ini kerana jenayah ragut bukan sahaja boleh menyebabkan kecederaan, malah kematian kepada mangsa," katanya.

Pada majlis itu, 19 pegawai polis, 27 anggota pangkat rendah dan 16 kakitangan awam menerima surat penghargaan. - Bernama

‘No more excuses’, govt says of new rules for pig farms

KUALA LUMPUR: Operators of pig farms have been given three years till 2018 to comply with changes in accordance to modern pig farming standards or face the prospect of being shut down.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said this in Parliament today and warned politicians against giving excuses as to why pig farm operators could not comply.

“I hope politicians from both sides of the divide will not give excuses for pig farmers who still do not comply by three years from now,” he was quoted as saying by The Star Online today.

The new standards require that pig farms have proper enclosures and that waste from their operations are properly disposed of so it does not pollute the environment as is the situation currently.

Tajuddin, who is also MP for Pasir Salak, added that his ministry encouraged pig farmers to invest in building proper facilities in line with modern pig farming standards as it was a good business.

DUA pemain asal Sepanyol, Marco Asensio dan Cristian Tello dikhabarkan berada dalam radar pasukan Liga Malaysia musim ini.

Spekulasi timbul selepas Persatuan Bola Sepak Malaysia (FAM) kembali membuka pintu perpindahan kedua bagi pemain Liga Malaysia (Liga-M) mulai April ini.

Menurut laporan portal Mundo Deportivo, penyerang sayap Real Madrid, Asensio yang kini dipinjam ke Mallorca sedang diintai pasukan Liga Perdana, Sabah.
Baru berusia 19 tahun, Asensio pernah mewakili skuad Sepanyol Bawah 16 Tahun, B17 dan B19.

Sementara itu, Tello yang merupakan pemain Barcelona dikatakan menjadi sasaran kelab Liga FAM, Real Mulia.

Tetapi, bagi musim 2014, dia menyarung jersi Porto secara pinjaman dan menggegar jaring lima gol dalam 21 penampilan.

Biarpun belum dapat disahihkan kebenaran portal itu, namun seandainya laporan ini betul, ia secara tidak langsung membuktikan kualiti Liga M yang bakal dibanjiri pemain asing berkualiti.

Sejak beberapa musim ini, pasukan Johor Darul Ta'zim berjaya membawa masuk pemain berstatus bintang kelas A seperti Pablo Aimar, Luciano Figueroa dan terbaru Paricio Julian Rodriguez manakala Sabah berjaya merekrut bekas skuad Piala Dunia Senegal 2002, El Hadji Diouf.

Dad and son may get lighter charge

PETALING JAYA: The father-son duo charged with the murder of a robber in Negri Sembilan may soon get a reprieve.

Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said the two should not have been charged with the capital offence.

“I agree that it cannot be murder,” he said in a text message to The Star.

Chef Mo Yi Hong, 56, and his son Wei Qiang, 28, face the gallows if convicted for the murder of Chen Wen Bao at a house near Gemencheh, Tampin, on Feb 24.

During the incident the deceased allegedly slashed Mo’s Singaporean wife Guo Shu Lan, while an accomplice managed to flee.

Guo, who received 25 stitches on her arm, said her husband and son were acting in self defence.

She also claimed Chen was conscious when they tied him up, and it was not clear how he died.

“I have already asked my officers for an explanation. I will be looking at the matter directly,” said Abdul Gani.

He added that the matter would be discussed before he issued a direction on how the case should proceed.

Social media users had questioned the murder charge and the wrong message it was sending out.

There were some who also defended the move (to charge) and pointed out the question of guilt or innocence should be left to the courts.

“If the robber gets killed in a fight, it’s self defence. If he surrenders, got tied up, and gets beaten to death, that’s murder,

“They were remanded with suspicion of murder and when this happens, it is not the police’s job to decide whether they are innocent or not.

“They will be brought to trial and it will be the judge who decides based on the evidence gathered,” wrote Jerrald Ewe.

No plea was recorded from the two men. The case is scheduled for mention on April 30 at the Gemas magistrate’s court.

Sementara itu, Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar mengesahkan penahanan tersebut.

Mum disobeys cops and causes son's death

PETALING JAYA: A mother’s impatience and defiance of traffic policemen’s orders saw her three-year-old son being killed after she rode her motorcycle into the path of a lorry at the Jalan Templer and New Pantai Expressway intersection yesterday morning.

Police were towing away a stalled car while other officers ordered motorists coming from Kuala Lumpur and Jalan Templer to stop.

But the 29-year-old woman with her son riding pillion, travelling from Jalan Templer towards Jalan Klang Lama did not heed the policemen and rode on. She rode into the intersection and was hit by a lorry travelling from Taman Medan towards Jalan Klang Lama.

Both mother and son were thrown off their motorcycle. The child suffered traumatic head injuries after hitting the pavement while the woman suffered a broken shoulder.

Petaling Jaya traffic police chief Deputy Supt Mohamad Roy Suhaimi said the officers rushed the child to the University Malaya Medical Centre where he died at about 1.30pm.

“The case has been classified as reckless driving. She did not follow orders from the police. This is very sad news,” he said, adding that he was looking for witnesses to corroborate the officers’ statements.

DSP Mohamad Roy also said a student travelling from Kota Damansara to Damansara died after ploughing into a road maintenance truck yesterday morning.

Student Ng Ai Wah was killed after she failed to brake in time and crashed into a PROPEL truck in a cordoned off portion of the NVKE near Kota Damansara, Thursday morning

Ng Ai Wah (pic), 23, who was said to have been driving on the fast lane failed to brake in time to avoid hitting a Projek Penyelenggaraan Lebuhraya Berhad truck.

“Her car crashed into the left side of the crew’s truck, severely injuring two foreign workers.

Ng died at the scene while the injured workers were taken to the Sungai Buloh Hospital,” DSP Mohamad Roy said.

The case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.

Kenyataan yang diluahkan pemain perseorangan negara, Liew Daren (gambar) di laman sosial, Facebook apabila tewas pusingan kedua Grand Prix (GP) Emas Terbuka Switzerland 2015 kelmarin.

Mungkin peminat badminton negara juga ingin bertanya soalan sama kerana Daren sebenarnya boleh menang ke atas Anand Pawar dari India dengan kemenangan straight set.

Selepas memenangi set pertama 21-13, Daren sepatutnya mampu menang mudah kerana pada satu ketika mendahului 20-16 sebelum tumpas 20-22 dan kemudian tumbang set penentuan 16-21.

“Saya mendahului tetapi kalah. Memang saya kecewa sebab itu saya tulis di Facebook. Saya tewas dalam perlawanan yang sepatutnya saya boleh menang,” katanya ketika dihubungi semalam.

Mindef: Major Zaidi could have been jailed

KUALA LUMPUR: The punishment against air force major Zaidi Ahmad for talking to the media on the indelible ink during the general elections in 2013 was “light”, the Defence Ministry said in a written reply in Parliament today. Mohamad Imran Abd Hamid (PKR-Lumut) had asked if the punishment on Zaidi was in line with the offence committed but the ministry said it was light compared to the maximum sentence accorded for his charge, Malaysiakini reports.

“The punishment on Major Zaidi is lighter compared to imprisonment and being meted a dishonourable discharge,” the ministry said in Parliament.

The military court on January 12 found Major Zaidi guilty of speaking to the media about the indelible ink without Armed Forces Council approval and discharged him from service. The maximum sentence Major Zaidi faced was a two-year jail sentence and a dishonourable discharge. Major Zaidi had lodged a police report at the Kepala Batas police station on May 1, 2013 over the indelible ink used for the 13th general election and was hauled up for disciplinary action.

He faced two charges, over the media statement he made stating his dissatisfaction with the indelible ink used in the general election and for making a statement without the approval of the Defence Ministry. Major Zaidi faced three other charges: broadcasting official information via an “attachment out” signal to the media without the approval of the Armed Forces Council, and making the media statements on the same matter via the Armed Forces channel and without the Defence Ministry’s consent.

Indonesian rupiah hits 17-year low

Indonesia's President Joko Widodo was locked in high-level talks with senior central bank and finance ministry officials late on Wednesday, in a possible sign of further action to halt the slide of the currency. As the US dollar strengthens, the rupiah hit its lowest since August 1998 on Wednesday and has now lost 6.4% of its value this year and is the worst performing Asian currency.

Last week, Widodo said the weakening rupiah was his top concern and he has been in several meetings with economic ministers this month to discuss it. On Tuesday, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said the government would impose a series of regulations, including temporary anti-dumping import duties, to help narrow the current account deficit and prop up a weakening rupiah in Southeast Asia's largest economy.

Widodo was in a meeting with the central bank governor, chief economics minister, finance minister and officials from the financial services authority late on Wednesday, a cabinet spokesman said, and he was expected to make an announcement afterwards. Indonesia's central bank will always ensure the rupiah's exchange rate remains stable according to market fundamentals, deputy central bank governor Perry Warjiyo said on Tuesday. – Reuters, March 11, 2015.

Datuk Dr. Haron Din appointed as Mursyidul Am PAS

PAS Syura Council appoints Haron Din as Mursyidul Am

PETALING JAYA: The PAS Syura Council unanimously appointed Datuk Dr Haron Din (pic) as the Mursyidul Am (Spiritual Leader), replacing Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat who passed away on Feb 13.

PAS assistant secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said on Wednesday that the Syura Council made the decision during a meeting on March 8.

Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yacob was appointed as the deputy Mursyidul Am, replacing Dr Haron.

According to the PAS constitution, the Mursyidul Am's appointment is made every five years.

“Unlike the other posts in the party where an election is held every two years, the appointment of Mursyidul Am is decided by the 15-member Syura Council every five years,” said Takiyuddin.

Hampir RM40,000 dana untuk Mejar Zaidi

NGO BERSIH berjaya mengutip dana sebanyak RM38,209.41 bagi membantu bekas juruterbang Mejar Zaidi Ahmad yang dipecat daripada Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) pada 12 Januari lalu.

Dalam satu kenyataan, BERSIH berkata wang hasil kempen kutipan dana selama sebulan itu telah diserahkan melalui satu cek kepada Zaidi pada awal bulan ini di Petaling Jaya.

"BERSIH berterima kasih kepada semua rakyat Malaysia yang telah memberikan sumbangan kepada Mejar Zaidi dan BERSIH tetap mengutuk keputusan Mahkamah Tentera yang tidak adil kepada Mejar Zaidi," kata NGO itu.

Pada 12 Januari lalu, Mahkamah Tentera menjatuhi hukuman buang kerja terhadap Zaidi selepas didapati bersalah atas dua tuduhan berhubung kenyataannya mengenai isu dakwat kekal pada pilihan raya umum 2013.

Bagaimanapun, Zaidi dilepas dan dibebaskan daripada lima pertuduhan lain termasuk melanggar perintah Majlis Angkatan Tentera dan menghantar khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) berbaur politik.

Dalam kenyataan itu juga, BERSIH memaklumkan satu forum mengenai kes Mejar Zaidi yang dijadual berlangsung pada 16 Mac ini di Hotel Palm Inn Butterworth, jam 8.30 malam.

KUANTAN - Rumah ketua pasukan Pahang, Mohd. Razman Roslan, 31, ditembak menyebabkan cermin belakang kenderaan pelbagai guna (MPV) miliknya pecah dalam kejadian di Lorong Kubang Buaya 35, di sini tengah malam tadi.

Dalam kejadian pada pukul 12.30 tengah malam itu, Razman bersama isteri dan dua orang anaknya sedang tidur sebelum dikejutkan dengan bunyi letupan di luar kediamannya.

Bagaimanapun Ketua Polis Daerah Kuantan, Asisten Komisioner Abdul Aziz Salleh ketika dihubungi sebentar tadi mengesahkan tiada kecederaan dilaporkan membabitkan keluarga pemain Tok Gajah itu selain cermin belakang Toyota Vellfire milik Razman pecah.

"Kita menerima laporan tengah malam tadi sebelum mengerahkan anggota untuk melakukan siasatan terperinci berkaitan kejadian itu.

Rembau: Seorang bapa dan anak lelakinya dituduh di Mahkamah Majistret, di sini, pagi tadi tadi atas pertuduhan membunuh seorang lelaki yang cuba menyamun isterinya bulan lalu. Moo He Hong, 56, dan anaknya Moo Wee Keong, 28, masing-masing bekerja di Singapura mengangguk faham sejurus pertuduhan berkenaan dibaca jurubahasa mahkamah dalam bahasa Melayu dan Inggeris.

Bagaimanapun tiada sebarang pengakuan direkodkan Majistret Mahyun Yusof. Mengikut pertuduhan mereka didakwa bersama-sama melakukan kesalahan membunuh Chan Boon Poh, 42, berhampiran rumah No A113 Kampung Baru Cina Tambahan, Air Kuning Selatan, dekat Gemencheh, Tampin pada 24 Februari lalu, pada 12.30 tengah malam.

Pertuduhan adalah mengikut Seksyen 302 Kanun Keseksaan, memperuntukkan hukuman gantung sampai mati jika sabit kesalahan. Pendakwaan dijalankan oleh Pegawai Pendakwa, Inspektor Nor Azuan Said manakala tertuduh diwakili peguam Mohamad Zahid Ahmad. Kes ditetapkan untuk sebutan semula pada 30 April depan di Majistret Gemas, Tampin.
