Review : Street Fighter movie

I watched Street Fighter last night.

It was the last day to get a poster. So got a IMAX version poster with Chun Li on it. There were 4 designs for different viewer experience like DBOX and such. They wouldn't change mys poster to other type somehow.

So the movie starts in an animated manner. Not much different to street Fighter animated movie. Then it goes to real life. The movie flashback scenes are all in animated form. People say its cost cutting. Which is true in some way. But it also opens doors for an animated TV series or movie based on these flashbacks. And the animation is very well done.

The fight scenes are way better than Mortal Kombat II. You will see those special moves from the game here. This is much better executed than the first movie or animated did.

I think it is not really fair to compare the first Street fighter movie starring Van Damme. That movie went far off the rails. But this one is really very close to the original animated movie. In fact it elaborates the Ken and Ryu story way more than the animated did.

I get why people hate Bison. The hate is primarily comparison to the game character. His body is small here. But they addressed this issue early on when Bison complained he is still small and not strong as he wanted to be. Anyway the actor did a really good job portraying Bison. Even though he has weird foot fetish.

The movie is very into the 90's scene. The Songs, product placement, clothes, foods, entertainment and vehicles are all from that era. There are a lot of game references. Really a lot. From the street fighter game opening scene in between the movie.

What big fights you are going to get? Ryu vs Ken, Ryu vs E Honda, Dhalsim vs Ken, Bison & Chun Li, Juli & Vega vs Chun Li, Blanka vs Ryu, Balrog vs Ryu, Akuma vs Ryu.

You only get little bits of fights from Zangief. No fights from Cammy.

Dan is entertaining. And we get to learn more about Dan here.

Dhalsim is by far the coolest looking character on screen.

If you are following some games content creator you will recognize them from their cameos here. One thing i cannot get out of my head is how the lead playing Ryu looked so much like John Wick 1.

What i did not like about the movie? It did took the easy way out during the competition by having competitors pulled out for various reasons. They made Guile character not a serious military guy, but more of a dumbass for some reason. Bison has foot fetish...

I also get why people cannot understand the movie. The main story is supposed to be about Bison seeking more power. But half of the movie is about Ryu and the Dark Hado. So if you are a casual viewer, you might feel the movie feels everywhere and incomplete. You want to know more about every character and none of them would get that time. Which could only be filled win extra TV series or movie. Or all in part 2 for another 2 hours. This is the movies main problem. The animated movie did a very good job managing this problem.

The ending hints at a sequel. Definitely Street fighter II. And thats where the pinnacle of this game starts. Hopefully as in the movie. But honestly i think this movie will fail at box office. It is hard to get into for people not into Street Fighter.

But all in, this is an entertaining movie. Seriously. I was smiling throughout the movie. I find it rewatchable. So i am watching it again via Jack sparrow while i am writing this.

I give it 4 stars.

After China revealed that they were contracted to make European branded goods few years ago, everyone thought nothing would happen and people would still buy these brands.

Ends up the owners of these branded goods are actually offloading them in large quantities. And China now probably has the largest used branded store in the world.
