Role: Freelance Interior Designer for Cafe Project

Remuneration: Negotiable based on scope and experience

Requirements:
Design the interior and exterior of a hip and spacious 2 storey cafe. On going project, need expertise to touch up and improve upon design in terms of look and feel.

- Acquiring key information about the project, discussing requirements in detail with client and setting project schedules;
- Understanding clients' needs and the needs of the people using the building, developing design concepts in consultation with the client and establishing final briefs;
considering materials and costs according to set budgets and negotiating project fees;
- Researching and gathering information and photographs relating to the project;
- Producing 'sample' or 'mood' boards for presentation to clients;
- Sourcing products, e.g. fittings, furniture, lighting, finishes, decoration and dressing, and providing samples for clients;
- Preparing detailed working drawings, designs, plans, models and schemes, often using computer-aided design (CAD) software;
surveying buildings;
- Working in a team with other designers/project members;
- Supervising work at the design stage and on site;

From Headphones to Speakers

Seeing that there's a whole new generation who's actively involved in Headfi, I'd like to get everyone's comments and opinions as to what it would take for you to upgrade from headphones to speakers.

Other than the price factor.

Do you think that this trend of headfi will ultimately lead to more people upgrading to speakers in the future?

Are you headfiers into hifi for the long term? Or do you feel this is just a short term phase in your life?

Active vs Passive Speakers!

Hi all!

Am in the midst of setting up a multi room audio system. Now I have to decide between a system that uses either active or passive speakers.

Active speakers being speakers with built in amplifiers.
Passive speakers being speakers without in built amplifiers but requiring an external amplifier.

So the question is, which would be better and if so, by how big a margin?

I've been sold the story that of course with passive speakers, if the distance is too long there will be signal loss.

But how long is too long? This is for piped-in music. So it's background easy listening stuff. So getting audiophile grade music isn't top priority.

The system is for 24 speakers in a 3 storey home. Distance from the center of the home to the furthest speaker is at least... 60 feet? I suppose I can use thicker wire gauge?

The passive setup seems to be cheaper and opens up to more options with speakers.

Appreciate any thoughts and advice on the matter.

2x XLR L & R (Stereo Preout) to 1x Mono XLR (Sub)

Dear cable gurus,

Need your advice on cable connections.

I'd like to use the 2x Balanced XLR L & R from my amplifier's Stereo Pre-out to connect to my subwoofer's 1x mono XLR input.

First of all, is this possible and advisable?

So far, I've been getting different opinions.

1. Some say that no, you can't do that because stereo to mono, there will be shorting.

2. Some say yes! But then the sound from L/R will be 'cluttered' when merged into a single mono input.

What are your thoughts?!

Recommend something better than the HD650?

Need some advice on an all rounder headphone. I'm currently running a D2000 on a Compass. Was thinking about the HD650, but they're about the same level, so would like to ask all the tai kors here, what they'd recommend for an all rounder headphone one level above the HD650. Budget can be stretched to about RM2k-2.5k. Also do note that I can get headphones from the US, so it'll be a bit cheaper than prices here. Thanks for your time and opinions

Oh yeah, forgot to add that, I'm looking for a pair of brand new open cans as I already have the closed Denons. Also, I don't plan on upgrading for a long long time after this next pair... moving on to Hi-Fi. Will buy the HD800 when the price drops .. in ... 123891872398172 years lol. ok. thanks.
