Ukunili Ukulele

So a year ago I picked up the ukulele, an orange Makala Dolphin for 200 ringgit. Now, I'm thinking of getting a new tenor ukulele and passing the Makala to my little brother. I've been browsing the internet and came across Ukunili's website, and the tenor is just RM265! I mean, my bajet is around RM400, and Ukulele Malaya has a few selections that goes around my price range. So, I just want to know if anyone has it and how does it compare to other beginner level ukes like the ones at Ukulele Malaya (Kaka and Aleho).

A-levels

Greetings fellow netizens.

I've come with a dilemma. I took SPM last year and now I am considering to pursue A-levels. I want to find an institution that offers a conducive study environment, state-of-the-art (or well-maintained) facilities and good lecturers.

I've got a call from UCSI regarding a scholarship, thus, I might consider it. Does USCI fits the criteria? Other options include Taylor's College and KDU.

Danke schön.
A-Level or IB

Greetings LYN citizens!

First off, Gong Xi Fa Cai to all Malaysians.

So, the SPM result is just around the corner and I have set my path on my tertiary education. But, one last blockage is present, pre-u. I am quite confident I will obtain a potpourri of straight As (A+/A/A-) and hopefully this would ease my financial burden with scholarships.

I did a bit of research on A-level and IB. It is the same on some basis but I read that universities tend to be biased about the matter, leaning towards A-level rather than considering them equally. Now, I aim to go for a bachelor degree in chem. eng.

I want to know what you guys think, especially those who took or are taking A-level and IB to share their experience and knowledge on the matter. No, I am not looking for a 'A-level is better than IB or vice versa' argument, but a concise and mannered opinion on why you would recommend IB or A-level.

Thank you very much in advance and I apologise if this post degrades your intellectual prowess. Danke schön.

Starting a business

Greetings LYN citizens!

So, 'cuti SPM' will be over soon and be damn I'm nervous as hell. So, me and a friend decided to start a small business, selling pizza! So, we put a little thought in it and we figured that we wanted to do a stall-like shop, where we open up a stall during events in KB. So, one of the events is the current football season and we wanted to sell pizza before/during/after matches at the stadium. My questions are:-

1) Is it a good idea?
2) Should I prepare a business plan? If yes, how so?
3) What should I prepare other than a business plan?

Thank you in advance and I apologise if this post degrades your intellectual prowess.
Path to Petroleum Engineering

Greetings fellow LYN citizens.

First of all, I would like to thank those who replied in my previous post. I thought about it, and I believe that I do not necessarily need a degree in game development to become a game developer. I could go indie, and learn through the numerous courses available online. Thus, here I am again, now considering engineering.

Now, for the sake of it (my parents), I chose petroleum engineering. Why? Because my dad is a petroleum engineer, and he insisted. From what I know, petrol. eng. needs a strong base in math, physics and chemistry, which I believe, are my strong points. I put some thought into this, and I figured that petroleum won't be around for too long. Some said that petroleum based products and services are needed only till, plus-minus, 2050. Then what?

So, I decided on obtaining a bachelor degree in chem. eng. and then get a masters in petrol. eng. Is this a good thing to do? Or is it better to just get a bachelor degree in petrol. eng.?

Also, I am still a bit fuzzy on pre-u. Should I get a diploma in engineering? Or foundation in engineering? Or take matriculation/STPM/A-Levels/IB/AUSMAT?

What are the difference in A-Levels/IB/AUSMAT?

Thank you very much for your help. I apologise for any inconvenience these questions causes. Danke schön.

Game Development Market

Greeting Lowyat netizens!

So, I am facing quite a predicament atm. I am a SPM 2014 graduate, waiting for the results. I thought about my future plans and decided to take on game development. My parents is not convinced nor they are pleased with my decision (IMHO, mainly due to the bad association video games tend to have such as money wastage at cyber cafe and the "video game violence" debate, yada yada yada,). They told me that I would have trouble landing a job after graduation. Thus, I am being pressured to take on an engineering course. Not that I don't appreciate their concern for me.

My question is, how is the game development market, local or overseas, for a game development degree holder? I read that the game development scene is competitive as it is considered as a "sexy" job. How may I convince my parents and family that being a game developer is a viable occupation, if not a lucrative one.

Thank you in advance for your help. I apologise if this post offends/annoys/ reduces your intellectual prowess in any way. Danke schön.

Should I Choose Game Development @ KDU?

Greetings Lowyat netizens!

First of all, this is my first post. So, be nice.

Laughs aside, I am faced with a dilemma. I sat for SPM last year (2014). So, waiting for my results this March, I spent the time, thinking about my path through tertiary education. My parents and other family members have been yanking my tail, telling me to take "medicine", or "engineering" (note the sarcastic note on the quoted words). So, I understand that these professions offer a significant amount of salary compared to other fields. But then, I factored in the fact that I AM NOT INTERESTED in these fields. If I were to become a doctor, or an engineer, would I be happy knowing that my family is happy even though I am not?

So, I searched my soul (spent these two months playing video games) and I thought, "Hey, I am good at programming! (They teached VB back at school) So, why don't I become a game developer?". So, I researched the field whether I SHOULD take the course. Also, some of you guys said that love PLAYING games does not makes someone a good game developer. But, I factored in the fact that game development is a relatively new field, and a newer one to surface in Malaysia and we need talent masses in this field in order to fulfil plans that are aligned with MyGameDev2020.

So, my first question is, should I take A-Level, STPM, foundation or diploma as pre-university course.

Some of my options include:

- A-Level at Taylor's College, KDU, or MMU.
- STPM (my least preferred option)
- Foundation Studies at KDU
- Diploma in Game Development at UPSI, or Diploma of Computer Science at UiTM.

Second question. I aim to obtain my degree in game development from KDU. But, I wonder if it is a better choice to opt for other institutions such as MMU or maybe UiTM.

Third question. Is it possible for me to obtain my degrees abroad? Maybe the States or UK (or Europe). Is there a scholarship or financial aid that I can apply for? I tried checking out the famed Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam scholarship. Alas, I was not able to find information from their website or even be able to contact them, inquiring about this matter, through e-mail.

Bonus question. So, my parents told me to go for IPTAs instead of IPTSs. So, the only public university offering this is UiTM. Is there others that I might have missed? UPSI only offers a diploma in game development.

Thank you in advance for your help and I would like to apologise if this post ever offends/annoys/reduces your logical competency. Danke schön.
