Plot:

Really liked this movie, it's not really a horror movie but psychological thriller

The two servants were who, exactly?
Short answer: Rose’s grandparents. The long answer: When Rose’s dad gives Chris a tour of the house, he notes that his own father lost a race — lost a race, pun intended — to the legendary Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He never really emotionally recovered, he notes wistfully. During the same tour, he notes his two African African servants and says that “we hired Georgina and Walter to help care for my parents. When they died, I couldn’t bear to let them go.” He’s actually referring to his parents. The real Georgina and Walter were lobotomized a long time ago.

Anyone else think hitting the deer at the beginning(deer in the headlights) was foreshadowing hypnosis being broken by flash?
Pretty sure hitting the deer was a set up for the reveal about his mom's hit and run accident

Then why does Georgina “accidentally” spill iced tea while serving the family at the table? There wasn’t a flash!
Because Rose’s mom accidentally clinks her spoon in the drink, a trigger that prompts instant hypnosis.

Does anyone have any hypotheses about why the scene with Walter (the grandfather) running around Chris in the middle of the night was relevant? What purpose did that serve other than being suspicious and raising a bit of fear?
The Grandfather wanted the physical superiority of being black. He was a track star and was beaten in the finals by a black runner, so he wanted to run faster. It was fairly integral to the story.

Is the bingo game at the party supposed to mean what I think it means?
It’s not a coincidence that the scene resembles a 19th century slave auction.

Why Rose didn't want the cop to see Chris's ID?
She did not want the cop to see his ID because he was going to go missing and did not want it to get traced back to this incident.

Why did the groundsman/grandpa kill himself?
Because the original owner being out the Sunken Place was temporary and his life will never be the same cuz he will always be a prisoner in his own body so the only way to set himself free but to take his own life I don't condone suicide at all but he did the right decision cuz I'd rather be dead than be a prisoner of my own body

We are having some really interesting discussions with writers, many of whom…once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things. As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal, what’s the movie of this, it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just “gets” it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing.

If you’re unfamiliar, Portal is a mind-bending single-player game where the protagonist is locked in a facility and given a gun that can essentially shoot small wormholes into walls, so that she can safely navigate a series of increasingly dangerous obstacle courses. The first Portal doesn’t have much of a story but the second and more popular, Portal 2, expands on the Aperture Science Labs universe and the artificially intelligent villain GLaDOS. Half Life is similar, the goal being to fight your way out of a research facility after a teleportation experiment gone wrong. Both of these games would probably lend themselves well to the film format, especially Half Life, much of which relies on scripted scenes to carry the gameplay forward.
