Mobile Phone to AV Receiver

Dear experts,

Newbie here and some noob questions to ask.
I am thinking of using my mobile phone as player and connect to my AV receiver (marantz sr5003).
I am thinking of:
a.) Mobile phone ==> Topping C1 ==> AVR; or
b.) Mobile phone ==> Topping D2 ==> AVR

My understanding is, option (a.) will use DAC and amplifier of 5003, whereas option (b.) using amplifier of 5003 only.
Please correct me if the connections are impossible.

So, is there any advantage in using external DAC like Topping D2 or other similar class DAC (not considering other higher end external DAC due to budget limitation) over the built-in DAC in 5003?
Option (a.) will save me some money compared to option (b.).
