Laptop not charging

Hello all,

i found out my laptop is not charging all of sudden this morning.
I can start the laptop just fine, but it cannot detect the power supply/adapter even though it is plugged in.
the power supply/adapter itself has power when switch on, but the light is flickering and makes a low ticking sound.

My laptop model is a HP elitebook G3, unfortunately its bit hard to find similar models out there where i can test it out.

Before i go out to buy a new power supply , i just want to know if it is the power supply faulty or the power jack of my laptop is not working.
what are the chances of the power jack of the laptop is spoilt? i hope its just the power supply/adapter.

Thanks
need opinion on what to study next

i'm currently studying CIMA and i've completed 1/3 of it.Recently my parents encouraged me to pursue a degree in an overseas uni,in which i tried to apply several unis in aus.My results aren't THAT good,so i have to settle with some mid-tier unis,no top unis for me The main purpose of going to aus is to get some typical overseas exposure and the most important of all, migration.I was planning to study there 2 years to get an undergrad degree and work after that.Getting a PR is a gamble, but should be OK for me,provided ruddkips didn't further toy with the immigration policies(2 yrs of study, relatives sponsor etc etc).

The unis accepted my application, but they are not willing to provide any exemptions,so its a full 3 yrs program for me.I checked the course syllabus and found out 2/3 of the subjects are the ones i done in CIMA,or very similar to it.Sure,i may be able to breeze through it,but a bit waste of my time.If i place the same time and effort into pursuing my CIMA studies,i could get half of it done by year end or maybe somewhere around there if i fail some papers.Time is important here,by the time i finished i would be 24/25 yrs old,not exactly your typical fresh undergrad age.If i do my CIMA,i could get it done faster or almost the same time, but since i'll working and studying part time,i would have years of job experience under my belt when i'm done.

Now the whole thing pretty much boils down whether to get a once in a lifetime experience in overseas education or bite my tongue and finish CIMA and i have more options in the future.

your opinion?
sound card problem?

i was watching a movie halfway then suddenly there is no sound coming out from the speakers.

i tried plugging in other headphones but still the same.

i tried checking the sound menu in control panel,it shows nothing is plugged into the green color jack in my mobo(speaker/headphones are plugged in).I'm pretty sure nothing is wrong with the drivers, because it could detect sounds generated from applications/games/movies.

i suspect the jack is faulty?

my soundcard is a on board mobo soundcard.

pc can't turn on

when i turn on my comp, the monitor shows nothing.

i plugged it into two of my 17 inch monitors,it shows "no signal"
but when i plugged it into another 22 inch monitor, the monitor shuts down itself.
Meaning the monitor has no power at all, even though everything is switch on.
weird thing is,it powers off when i connects the VGA or DVI cable to the graphic card.

i don't think its the graphic card's problem, since i plugged it off another computer, and its working fine for a very long time.
and it isn't some high end stuff,just a simple graphic card(ati x300)

The rest is working fine,i assume
The motherboard's LED is lightning up,fans plugged into it are spinning.
I tried two separate PSUs,since i thought there isn't enough power, but both produce the same result.
RAM is ok,since there is no beeps or anything.

i bought the processor from garage sales,a 2nd hand one.
i'm not sure this is causing the problem.
i'm currently using a 3com 3CRWE554G72T model router

http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail....ku=3CRWE554G72T

it has this weird problem lately, where the whole router resets itself.
I have to key in all the details again every time this happens, like port forward and PPPoE details.

i thought some unauthorized wifi users cause it,since i didn't change the router configuration page password.
I changed it later, but same thing happened.

anyone know what is the problem?
My 1 and half year old HP computer is slow as shit,i have no idea what causes it.
Even my 3-4 years old laptop with inferior specs could run smoother than this comp.

When i open up the task manager and monitor the memory usage,it only surges when i start up some software, which is pretty normal.
But when i encounter random slowdowns,i check the memory usage but its hovering around less than 10%.

Worse is when i transfer files from my comp to a thumbdrive, the whole comp is slooooooooow and laggy,i can't even surf websites properly.
I did re-install windows(repair) once,but problem is still there

Whats wrong?

My specs
Pentium D 2.8ghz
512mb DDR2 ram
160gb sata HDD
ati x300

hijack this log
<div class="spoilertop"
my internet keeps disconnecting whenever my phone rings

i google'd,and found out the problem was probably due to my modem and router is placed on an extended line.

if i put a splitter on the main line, will the problem go away?
but i can't place my modem and router on it since there are no power holes or whatever you call it and space around it.
