My nutritionist and most internet sources put salmon as a rich source of omega 3.
However, a quick look at some of the salmon available for sale here in KL seems to be of the norwegian farmed variety, of which some sites say is unsafe.

So not sure if I should let the missus eat this - it seems that both fishes that are rich in omega 3, the other being mackerel also said to be unsafe for various reasons?!?

Confused.

Morning all,

Am looking to get a place to rent out, but everyone seems to have their own opinions. So, well... I'm gonna ask for even more opinions, lol.

The only place that I am really familiar with would be PV near Setapak but I find it a bit overpriced. Not from KL, so not quite knowledgeable, would appreciate it very much if some of the sifus here could give some suggestions for me to go look look see see.

Thanks in advance.

[WTA] Volkswagen Jetta (the 149k one)

Any actual owners here? After an exhausting month of searching I have yet to make up my mind on a which car to get
Having gone thru a whole slew of sub 150k cars, the Jetta seems to be the one I like best, however I have heard quite a lot of negative impressions about that VW DSG gearbox.

So, how many of you guys have had troubles with your Jetta or are the reports exaggerated?

If the DSG 7 speed transmission is really problematic I will take the safe (and boring) option of getting a Honda or a Toyota instead So yeah, would appreciate some feedback from existing VW owners.

TQ.

Problem is, the wiring for the doorbell for my house has already been done by the developers so I am looking for the wired version.

The ones I have seen for sale so far are the standard (and terribly boring looking ones). Would appreciate it very much if someone could recommend a place where I would be able to find fancy looking ones.

Thank you.

Are there any options for something like this? My house has a courtyard/air well and I am initially thinking of tiling it up and putting a glass ceiling over it to make a place for my two pet dogs.

However, am kinda worried that this will make it unbearably hot during the afternoons. Will using perspex or tempered glass make any difference?

Or would I require a retractable non transparent ceiling to go on top of the glass? Is there even such an option available economically?

Thanks.

LYN's Groupbuild Recruitment Thread

We buy and we buy and we buy. Then we let them gunpla sleep in their boxes. Eventually we get bored, and we sell them off cheaply at the garage sell section.
And every six months we make our way to Sungai Wang's Gunpla show and salivate at the various works of art on display. Well, those guys/gals did not get that good by sitting on their arses They took the time and effort to actually build their model kits.

AND WE CAN TOO!

I would be the first to admit that I too am fond of procrastinating. But work normally gets done, and done quick when there's a deadline. Tak nak lose face mah

Hence, this Groupbuild Recruitment Thread. Everyone can suggest a Groupbuild and it is up to the participants to come out with their own set of rules. Anything goes. You guys come up with the deadlines, conditions, requirements and if you wish to dangle a carrot, the prizes as well.

In fact, there is currently one involving SD's, the details of which I will post below. If anyone's interested I would think that the upcoming 1/144 HG GPB-04B Bear Acguy would also make a great and fun groupbuild subject!

The only requirement would be that there are a minimum of FIVE participants for any groupbuild
Should be easy enough, with the amount of kits we collectively buy!

Twin Palms Sungai Long or Putra Heights Amber

I have kinda narrowed my selection to these two places - for ownstay. Both cost around MYR700k, with the Twin Palms house costing 50k more. Both are double storey, but the Putra Heights design is much bigger. Both are freehold.

Both come with round about the same finishing but will still require some renovation. Both come with auto gates and are alarm ready.

Twin Palms is gated and guarded, but with the clubhouse maintenance comes up to MYR280/month. Putra Heights Amber is not gated nor is it guarded at the moment, but i believe there will be an RA eventually.

What i would really like to know is which one is actually further from KL? How long does it take to get to KL from both places and how much toll to pay? And also the amenities around both areas? I have been staying near KLCC all this while, so am not familiar with either place. Would love some feedback.

Or should i just get one of the leasehold units in Sri Petaling Zone P1 - the area behind the Ipoh chicken rice shop (2.5 storeys, with guard patrolling the neighbourhood for around MYR100 per month, much much closer to KL) for around MYR650k and spend some money restoring it?

Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a question about dog snacks.

Was in a popular pet shop chain yesterday, the missus and I picked up something called 'Happy Diners Chocolate Bar and Happy Diners Chocolate Drops' made by an EU company called Karlie.

Initially I thought it was made out of carob, but when I got home a look at the ingredients and it says "Ground Cocoa"?

Can I still feed this to my dogs, or does it go into the bin?

TQ.

Old Fashioned Zoom Lenses

Are there any one touch zoom lenses still around? The kind where you turn the ring to focus and slide the ring front and backwards to zoom?
I'm trying to do something like this, but with a 2 ring zoom, i cannot seem to zoom in and out smoothly.

I know this can probably be done digitally, but being old school, I prefer to do it with the camera instead.

Thanks in advance.

p.s. Photos of the same model, just for laughs.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Luxury Tax

QUOTE

Saving football from itself

Fans of American sports have long argued that what the rest of the world calls football could do a lot worse than take a long hard look itself before adopting some of the rules and that govern North American sports.

Well, it finally it looks like someone has been listening to that sage counsel.

The Financial Times reports that a delegation of no doubt very serious looking, suit-wearing types from UEFA were recently in the US on a fact finding mission where they held talks with Major League Baseball on the advantages of their so-called ''luxury tax'' and how a similar scheme could be introduced in European football.

In short the premise would see European football's richest clubs effectively subsidising smaller, less affluent sides by having a tax levied against them for paying exorbitant wages to star players.

UEFA would hope that as well as seeing the riches of elite level football trickle down to smaller clubs, the idea would also encourage clubs to curb their spending, thus resisting the temptation to borrow beyond their means and become saddled with dangerous levels of debt.

As part of MLB's collective bargaining agreement between the players' union and the team owners, a pay threshold is set for total annual player salaries ($155m for 2008).

Under the terms of the CBA, if a franchise exceeds the agreed level they must pay a tax of 40% on what they spend over the threshold. The monies are then pooled and redistributed through the MLB's Industry Growth Fund, which helps support and promote the sport.

In a UEFA variant, any limit on wages would presumably be agreed between UEFA itself and the European Club Association (the body which represents 137 clubs, including giants like Manchester United and Real Madrid) and all pooled monies would be redistributed to smaller teams.

How a team would qualify for the subsidy and exactly how much each team would receive from the pool are just some of the problems the luxury tax could expect to face in any future consultation, and that's before considering such thorny matters as the total salary limit itself, or what the taxable percentage would be.

It cannot be argued that UEFA president Michel Platini has not tried to address the financial concerns threatening the game since taking office in 2006, and one can sympathise with the resistance he and Europe's governing body have come up against.

However, while the often suggested salary cap has never come close to introduction because of issues with the European Union (which would effectively render any cap illegal because it could be argued that it restricts free movement of trade), a luxury tax could circumvent legal pitfalls because, although it would see the introduction of a salary cap, the crucial caveat would be that clubs would be allowed to exceed it.

Another idea under discussion at UEFA headquarters, and similarly aimed at protecting the clubs from themselves, could see squads limited to a maximum of 25 players. The rationale being that by restricting the size of their squads, teams would be able to cut wage costs accordingly.

While no-one could take against UEFA's basic objective, which is to ensure the health and wealth of all football at all levels, the problems lie in both the governing body's methods, which thus far have all been open to criticism, and, just as importantly, reluctance amongst clubs to accept criticism or adopt change, all of which they regard as autocratic and overbearing interference on UEFA's behalf.

Soccernet

Sounds like a pretty decent idea?
