Air India announces Rs 5 lakh compensation, job in airline to technician’s kin Lohani, who rushed to Mumbai on Thursday morning for an on-the-spot inquiry, has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh (RM33,000) and a job in the airline to a family member of service engineer Ravi Subramanian.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau on Thursday launched a probe into Wednesday’s freak accident at the Mumbai airport, where a technician died after getting sucked into the engine of an Air India plane even as the pilot and co-pilot have been taken off the roster.

Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani, who rushed to Mumbai on Thursday morning for an on-the-spot inquiry, has announced an ex-gratia of Rs five lakh and a job in the airline to a family member of service engineer Ravi Subramanian. This is a serious accident and Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has taken up the probe, a senior civil aviation ministry official said.

AAIB, a dedicated entity to investigate accidents, functions under the Civil Aviation Ministry. Manned by employees from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the bureau was carved out of DGCA in 2012.

The rare mishap had occurred during push back when the co-pilot of Mumbai-Hyderabad flight 619 mistook a signal for starting the engine and the victim, Ravi Subramanian, who was standing close, got sucked into it at bay 28 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport.

An aircraft parked in a bay cannot reverse on its own and has to be pulled by a tow vehicle. It was during the push back that the engine of the plane got started, violently pulling into its innards Subramanian, who was standing dangerously close. His body was so badly mutiliated it could not be sent for post mortem examination.

We have lost a family member. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh has been given to the family. We have also offered a job to the family of the victim, Lohani told reporters in Mumbai.

Though he refused to go into the details of what could have possibly caused the accident, Lohani said,initially it seems that there was some communication gap. He, however, did not elaborate.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma said a three-member committee led by Lohani and top officials of DGCA had rushed to Mumbai.

It is very sad. We have lost a young engineer. A committee has been set up to investigate the incident and it has already started the probe, Sharma said in Delhi. He, however, refused to elaborate further, saying that it will be too premature to comment until the findings of the probe are out.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may not be part of Rajinikanth’s ‘Enthiran 2’.

‘The Terminator’ star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was approached by the makers of superstar Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Enthiran 2’ to play the antagonist in the film, may not get to play the role as the deal failed to work out, a source has said.

“The team has finally decided to rope in a Bollywood actor to play the baddie. The deal with Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t work out for various reasons. Hence, the makers decided to move on as the project was getting delayed,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.

One of the reasons why the deal with Schwarzenegger fell through was because of the star’s high remuneration of Rs.120 crore, according to the sourc.

A sequel to Tamil blockbuster ‘Enthiran’, the film also stars Amy Jackson, who will reportedly be playing a robot.

To be directed by Shankar and produced by Lyca Productions, the project is set to go on floors later this month or early next year.

Oscar winning composer A.R. Rahman has been roped in to create music for the film.

Peniaga Vape Pertama Didakwa

Seorang peniaga rokok elektronik atau vape menjadi individu pertama di negeri ini yang didakwa di Mahkamah Majistret di sini hari ini atas tuduhan menjual cecair vape mengandungi nikotin melebihi had dibenarkan, bulan lalu.

Muhd. Azahar Safie, 27, mengaku tidak bersalah atas tuduhan memiliki cecair racun jenis nikotin sebanyak 518 mililiter (ml) tanpa diberi sebarang kuasa atau kebenaran yang sah di sebuah premis di Pasar Borong Wakaf Che Yeh, di sini, pada pukul 11.15 malam, 5 November lalu.

Dia didakwa mengikut Seksyen 9(1) Akta Racun 1952 dan boleh dihukum mengikut Seksyen 32(2) akta sama yang memperuntukkan hukuman penjara maksimum setahun atau denda maksimum RM3,000 atau kedua-duanya.

Pertuduhan dikemukakan oleh Timbalan Pendakwa Raya, Siti Hajar Alias manakala tertuduh tidak diwakili peguam.

Siti Hajar mencadangkan supaya tertuduh diikat jamin RM3,000 dengan seorang penjamin.

Majistret Mohamad Nasruddin Mohamed membenarkan tertuduh diikat jamin RM2,000 dengan seorang penjamin dan menetapkan sebutan semula kes pada 14 Januari tahun depan.

Tertuduh dibebaskan selepas membayar jaminan tersebut.

Kementerian Kesihatan pada bulan lalu memberi amaran penjualan cecair vape yang mengandungi nikotin hanya boleh dilakukan oleh ahli farmasi berlesen dan pengamal perubatan berdaftar.

Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah berkata, mengikut Akta Racun 1952, penjualan nikotin oleh lain-lain pihak adalah salah di sisi undang-undang.

A Poor Guy Meets Rich Girl

A poor guy meets a rich girl. They fall in love. Girl goes back to her country. Boy promises to make it big and visit her. Time passes but he struggles to make both ends meet. He decides to fulfill his promise - picks up a cycle and sets on a journey across 8 countries to meet the love of his life!

No, this isn't the story of an upcoming Bollywood movie. Although it pretty much qualifies to be one! This is the story of Dr. Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia from India and Charlotte Von Schedvin from Sweden and it has all the elements of a Bollywood blockbuster - emotion, drama and lots of love.

An epic saga of romance, PK proves that when love is determined, it pushes all boundaries.

Born in 1949 into a poor weaver family of Odisha, Dhenkanal who were considered untouchables, PK was a gifted artist. However, the family didn't have enough money to finance his education. He would often find himself at the receiving end of insult due to the dreaded caste system. Later In 1971, he joined College of Art in New Delhi and gained popularity for making portraits.

In 1975, 19-year-old Charlotte Von Sledvin, a student in London, heard about him and traveled all the way to India to get her portrait made. As the stars had conspired, during the course of making the portrait, he was possessed by her beauty and she, with his sheer simplicity. Love had set in.

Charlotte took the Indian name Charulata and they both married following traditional rituals.

When it was time for Charlotte to leave, she asked her husband to come along, however, PK was still a student and wanted to finish his studies. When she offered to send air tickets later, he refused saying he would come to meet her on his own. After she left, the two kept in touch through letters.

PK's love-filled heart had made the promise, but the reality of having no money to fulfill it stared PK in the eyes. But he was not one to give up. He sold all his belongings and bought a second-hand bicycle. Carrying all his paints and brushes along, he did the unthinkable.

He set out on a voyage to the Far West with a hope to reunite with his love. This was back in 1978.

He reached Amritsar from New Delhi before entering Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria and Denmark. His cycle broke down many times on the way and he even had to go on without food for days. But nothing could break his will.

After 4 months and 3 weeks of back-breaking journey, he finally reached Gothenburg, Sweden.

Those were the days when not many countries required visa for travelling.
Upon reaching, he was questioned by Swedish immigration officers who were amazed to see a man who had come from India riding a bicycle. PK told them the reason behind his visit and produced photographs of his marriage with Charlotte.
Authorities were surprised and did not believe that someone of royal blood from Europe would marry a poor Indian.

The sudden revelation made even PK skeptical whether his lady love would accept him or not.

When Charlotte learned about the man from India who cycled all the way for around 5 months, she drove to Gothenburg and received her husband with unbridled happiness. Her parents accepted Pradyumna as a part of their family by breaking a royal tradition that prohibited non-white people from residing with the nobles.

After 40 years of marriage, Dr PK Mahanandia serves as the Odiya Cultural Ambassador of India to Sweden and lives with his wife Charlotte and 2 children in Sweden. His village, that once shunned him as an untouchable, now gives a thundering welcome every time he makes a visit.

Pradyumna is well known in Sweden as an artist and is working as an Adviser, Art and Culture, under the Swedish Government. Swedish Government in honour of their love has made films to document this immortal love of the century. His paintings have been exhibited in major cities of the world and have found places in the prestigious UNICEF greeting cards. On 4 January 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree (Degree of Honoris Causa) from Utkal University of Culture (UUC) in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha state, India. He was also designated as the Oriya Cultural ambassador to Sweden by the Government of Odisha. Renowned Bollywood film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is planning to make a film on the love story of PK Mahanandia and Charlotte.

Mohd Rizal Johari juga turut menemukan sepujuk surat yang di tinggalkannya oleh anak perempuannya itu mengatakan agar ayahnya tidak mencari dan membuat report polis karena ia keluar untuk mencari ketenangan diri.

Setelah saya membaca surat yang di tinggalkan saya dapati dalam telepon bimbit, terdapat satu sms yang di hantar jam 0152 Hrs, tarikh yang sama bagi tahu supaya anak perempuan saya cepat keluar.

Saya telah mencari anak perempuan saya di sekitar, tetapi tidak di jumpai saya syak anak saya lari mengikut guru silatnya yang bernama Khairulhizam.

Tujuan saya buat laporan polis karena bimbang akan keselamatan anak saya katanya dalam laporan tersebut. Beberapa page juga turut mengongsikan info orang hilang berkenan di laman media sosial untuk meminta bantuan kepada ramai.

Singapura Haramkan Vape

Kementerian Kesihatan Singapura akan menguatkuasakan pengharaman produk tembakau baharu termasuk rokok elektronik atau vape di negara ini, bermula esok.

Laman web Channel News Asia melaporkan, kementerian tersebut yang membuat pengumuman pengharaman produk terbabit pada Jun lalu berkata, penguatkuasaan peraturan itu akan dilaksanakan dalam dua peringkat.

“Produk yang terlibat dalam pengharaman tersebut masih belum berada di pasaran Singapura. Tindakan ini akan memastikan produk berkenaan tidak bertapak atau menarik perhatian di sini (republik ini) yang mungkin menjadi pencetus peningkatan permintaan dan penggunaan tembakau,’’ kata kementerian itu.

Kementerian itu berkata, produk yang terlibat dalam fasa pertama termasuk rokok dan rokok tidak berasap, sebarang produk nikotin atau tembakau yang boleh ditanam atau disuntik ke mana-mana bahagian badan, selain sebarang bahan melibatkan tembakau atau nikotin yang bertujuan digunakan bersama nikotin elektronik.

“Pengharaman produk berkenaan akan dikuatkuasakan mengikut Peraturan Larangan Produk Tembakau di bawah Seksyen 15 Akta Kawalan Pengiklanan dan Jualan Tembakau.

“Mereka yang didapati melanggar pengharaman berkenaan boleh dikenakan denda sehingga S$20,000 (RM61,328) atau penjara sehingga 12 bulan atau kedua-dua sekali,’’ kata kementerian itu.

Kementerian itu berkata, fasa kedua pengharaman berkenaan akan melibatkan produk tembakau yang sudah berada dalam pasaran tempatan dan akan dikuatkuasakan pada 1 Ogos tahun depan.

“Ia termasuk produk bahan tembakau yang disedut melalui hidung dan mulut, produk gutkha, khaini dan zarda,’’ kata kementerian berkenaan.-15/12/2015

Bayi Lahir Selepas 23 Tahun

Seorang bayi, Xavier Powell, baharu sahaja berusia enam bulan, namun dia telah meletakkan namanya dalam senarai Guinness World Records.

Semuanya kerana dia dilahirkan dari sperma bapanya yang dibekukan 23 tahun yang lalu.

Bapa Xavier, Alex, disahkan menghidap penyakit Hodgin's lymphoma ketika berusia 15 tahun dan dinasihatkan agar segera menjalani kimoterapi.

Alex kemudiannya membuat keputusan untuk menyimpan dan membekukan spermanya apabila diberitahu rawatan berkenaan boleh menyebabkannya mandul.

Alex dan isterinya, Vi, memulakan rawatan IVF pada tahun 2013.

Namun ia hanya berjaya setahun selepas itu dan Xavier selamat dilahirkan pada Jun lalu.

Sperma yang dibekukan kebiasaannya hanya akan disimpan selama tujuh hingga 10 tahun, namun tiada kajian saintifik yang menyatakan selama mana penyimpanan patut dihadkan.

Polis Metropolitan Jepun (MPD) kini mempunyai skuad khas untuk menangkap dron yang digunakan untuk tujuan jahat. Menurut Dailymail, penubuhan skuad tersebut buat selepas sebuah dron menceroboh pejabat perdana menteri, April lepas.

MPD dilaporkan akan menerima satu angkatan dron yang setiap satunya dilengkapi dengan jaring.

"Kemungkinan pengganas menyerang menggunakan dron itu tetap ada," kata seorang pegawai kanan MPD di laman web Asahi Shimbun.

Angkatan dron MPD dikatakan akan meronda bangunan-bangunan milik kerajaan untuk mengesan sebarang aktiviti luar biasa. Dalam kejadian April lalu, sebuah dron yang membawa bahan radioaktif dan mendarat di bumbung pejabat perdana menteri dipercayai dikendalikan oleh aktivis yang menentang rancangan kerajaan Jepun untuk terus menggunakan tenaga nuklear.
