You are interested in getting a dash cam,great decision!follow the guide to select the dash cam(car dvr,digital video recorder) best for you.

Decision one:single-lens dashcam or dual-lens dashcam.
Most dash cams are forward facing and record only what is happening front of the vehicle (on the road in front of the car). These are known as single-lens dashcams.If you are interested in recording what is happening rear of your vehicle while at the same time recording the road in front of the car, you may be interested in purchasing a dual-lens dashcam.This type of dashcam is designed to have more than one video "channel," and can record simultaneously on both of these channels. This type of dashboard video camera is best for fleet or business owners, taxi drivers, concerned parents of teenagers, and other situations where someone else will be driving your vehicle.

Decision two:Traditional size dashcam or miniature dashcam.
Dashcams come in all shapes and sizes. Decision three: High quality video or full high quality video.
Dash cam video quality varies with each model, ranging from normal quality (480p), to high quality (720p), to even higher quality (1080p full high-definition, better known as HD).My stance is that when an accident happens, any dashcam video is better than no video. However, higher quality video does offer several advantages over standard-definition, such as being able to read license plate numbers from the video, or more visibility in video shot at night. Decision four: GPS or Not
Many newer dashcams offer the additional luxury of logging your vehicle's position, speed, and heading via a built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver. When playing back your video later on your computer, you can watch your vehicle moving along a Google map in real time, right next to the video display. The benefits of GPS data are numerous! Easily prove your whereabouts at a given time, keep track of where your fleet vehicles have been, or defend yourself in court from an unjust speeding ticket.An added bonus of this type of dashcam is that the time and date are set automatically for you! No more inaccurate dates on your videos.To receive GPS signal from the satellites, the dashcam uses a GPS antenna. Depending on the model of dashcam, the antenna is either built into the camera itself, or it is external and connects with a cable (like an XM/Sirius radio antenna).

Other considerations
Don't get overwhelmed. If you are not concerned with the power cable dangling from your dashcam, the standard cigarette lighter power cord that is included with every dashcam is all you need for "installation." This is the same as the power cord going to your navigation unit, cell phone charger, or radar detector.
