Porsche Cayman - recon

Hi Sifus,

Been looking at buying a recon Porsche Cayman (<RM300k) as a daily car to drive, but as always buying a recon/2nd hand is fraught with risk so looking for advice from those who own a recon or a Porsche. I was thinking of buying a F30 320d previously but am more inclined to this car for now.

Most of the cars I've looked at are manufactured in 07/08. I plan to use it as a daily car, and really lanyak it. If I keep it for another 5 years, the car will be around 10 years old and I'm scared there will be major problems. Given that it's a Porsche and not Proton, I hope this isnt the case and have heard that the Cayman is a very reliable car.

Financially, I can afford the monthly repayment for the car (and insurance/road tax/petrol) but how much does it really cost to be a Porsche owner? Still need to make sure it's a reasonable purchase vs a deciison I will regret.

1) Cost to service - is it similar to BMW/Merc? ~1k per service

2) Spare parts - this is where I'm scared most. I'm sure it's higher than BMW/Merc, but by how much? I've heard owners of recons who bought the cars cheap, but when something major went wrong had to leave the car in workshop for months because couldnt afford spare parts.

How much should I provision for this? Should I be worried about something in the engine breaking that will set me back RM100k?? Is there some 10 year service which will kill me?

3) Any tips on what I should look out for when inspecting these cars?

Thanks a lot. I'm not a very technical person but am doing my homework on this as well.

Appreciate your input!

2nd chances to win her

Sifus, I need your opinion if I should continue to pursue the girl of my dreams. Sorry if the topic sounds a little common. I guess most guys have gone thru similar episodes.

I've been friendzoned once by her and that time it was my mistake for not making my move till it was too late. She's the type of girl who I feel totally comfortable with and can bare my soul. She's intelligent, beautiful, sophisticated and laughs at my jokes. We used to go for brunch and dinner every week and I was aware that I had stiff competition. She had just broken up from a long-term relationship and was on the rebound and I unfortunately when I made my move I was travelling in and out of the country every week for work. I knew I had lost my chance since I could not physically be there and true enough she soon told me she was seeing someone else. She said she liked me but since I was not around we couldn't really hit it off. I was devastated.

I tried to forget her and for a few months I did. Until she came back to haunt me. She asked me to catch up for dinner and since then we've gone out a few times as friends. Everything I felt for her before returned and I saw why she was the girl of my dreams.

My dilemma is that I feel she might be on the market again, but I don't know for sure. Secondly, once I've been friendzoned, do you think it would be wise to try my luck again? I never got closure and always felt that there was still some distant hope I could be with her. If she told me she didn't like me at all then I wouldn't mind. I want to make a move again on her, but afraid this time I will lose a real friend.

Why is the feeling of love so agonising when I always thought it would be so beautiful I guess I was always the hopeless romantic.

Hi all,
I want to ask about this Honours thing behind the degree. Do employers really mind about the Honours? Because for australian programme need 1 yr extra to get honours but UK programme no need. Is the general degree inferior to Honours degree?
My brother plan to take computer science n i dont know how to advise him.
Thanks

LYN Basketball network

Well, lets make a more proper topic dedicated to the basketball players of LYN. This is to identify the best places to play, the players and everything about basketball in general. I find good courts are hard to come by so why not we profile our own courts, give pros n cons n time that we usually play. N profile ourselves while we're at it

Night Courts

1. Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam
Pros: Good racial mix
Cons: Hoop slightly lower than 10ft and rim slightly bigger

2. SS2 PJ

3. Sri Hartamas public court near Petronas station(allegedly need to pay a bit)

4. a public court at Damansara Jaya
Cons: Damaged rim

5. Confucian Private Secondary School* , booked 2 hours RM40.
* located at Bukit Petaling... where is bukit petaling? ehh, beside MBA (Malaysia Basketball association) there is a Lorong call lorong hang Jebat.. end of the lorong is the entrance of Confucian Secondary School (Private or Kebangsaan)

6. HELP Institute, in Damansara (no lights)

If you're interested to join the LYN bball team, leave your details below. Tentatively, most guys are free night

Up and coming bball competitions:
1. 27th Dec 07: Flyfm Malaymail Bball Challenge; Cineleisure, the Curve
