Desktop icons took a long time to refresh

Hello lytians!, i have a pretty small problem but somewhat annoying on my desktop

The desktop icons took quite a long time to refresh.. when i press F5 all the desktop icons went missing and it took around 7 seconds for them to appear again, can anyone help me fix this problem?

only the icons in desktop or in c://user/desktop folder have this problem though.. other folders are working fine and i can use the taskbar normally or right clicking the desktop during the refresh.

Windows 7 64bit.. the rest of my pc specs is in my sig, thanks!

HDD suddenly not detected

Hi all, I'll keep it in point form, easier.

Problem:
Harddisk, SATA not detected in BIOS

Specs:
Seagate barracuda 500GB SATA (1 month old)
Asus P5K SE EPU mb
full specs in my profile

How:
Was working perfectly fine until 8AM,
turn off pc,
turn it on again at 9AM at the same day
HDD not detected in BIOS
tried boot with vista cd and no HDD found upon install
tried changing sata and power cable.. no avail
tried restart a few times.. no avail

Questions:
1. It was so sudden... is my drive kiok already?
2. Anyway for data recovery?
3. If i send for warranty, how long roughly can i expect it to fix my drive
4. Does this have to do with power supply? but my bios/vista cd loads fine.. just the hdd cant detect at all

btw i notice the pc acting kinda strange.. the case fan spins, stop for a sec and spins again upon start, this doesnt happen before..

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance...
