UK PM Johnson orders for plans to end reliance on

QUOTE

(Reuters) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has instructed civil servants to make plans to end UK's reliance on China for vital medical supplies and other strategic imports in light of the coronavirus outbreak, The Times newspaper reported on Friday

The plans, which have been code named ‘Project Defend’, include identifying Britain’s main economic vulnerabilities to potentially hostile foreign governments as part of a broader new approach to national security, the newspaper reported, adding that the efforts are being led by Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

Two working groups have been set up as part of the project, according to the report, with one source telling The Times that the aim was to diversify supply lines to no longer depend on individual countries for non-food essentials.

Johnson told lawmakers he would take steps to protect Britain’s technological base, with the government review also expected to include personal protective equipment and drugs, the report added.

The development comes as Beijing has been tackling mounting international criticism over its handling of the coronavirus outbreak, which began in China before spreading to the rest of the world.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-c...s-idUSKBN22X2WA

Japan to fund firm to shift production out of

QUOTE

Japan has earmarked $2.2 billion of its record economic stimulus package to help its manufacturers shift production out of China as the coronavirus disrupts supply chains between the major trading partners.

The extra budget, compiled to try to offset the devastating effects of the pandemic, includes 220 billion yen ($2 billion) for companies shifting production back to Japan and 23.5 billion yen for those seeking to move production to other countries, according to details of the plan posted online.

The move coincides with what should have been a celebration of friendlier ties between the two countries. Chinese President Xi Jinping was supposed to be on a state visit to Japan early this month. But what would have been the first visit of its sort in a decade was postponed a month ago amid the spread of the virus and no new date has been set.

China is Japan’s biggest trading partner under normal circumstances, but imports from China slumped by almost half in February as the disease shuttered factories, in turn starving Japanese manufacturers of necessary components.

That has renewed talk of Japanese firms reducing their reliance on China as a manufacturing base. The government’s panel on future investment last month discussed the need for manufacturing of high-added value products to be shifted back to Japan, and for production of other goods to be diversified across Southeast Asia.

“There will be something of a shift,” said Shinichi Seki, an economist at the Japan Research Institute, adding that some Japanese companies manufacturing goods in China for export were already considering moving out. “Having this in the budget will definitely provide an impetus.” Companies, such as car makers, that are manufacturing for the Chinese domestic market, will likely stay put, he said.

Testing Times

Japan exports a far larger share of parts and partially finished goods to China than other major industrial nations, according to data compiled for the panel. A February survey by Tokyo Shoko Research Ltd. found 37% of the more than 2,600 companies that responded were diversifying procurement to places other than China amid the coronavirus crisis.

Japan Unveils Record $992 Billion Stimulus Amid Virus Emergency

It remains to be seen how the policy will affect Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s years-long effort to restore relations with China.

“We are doing our best to resume economic development,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a briefing Wednesday in Beijing, when asked about the move. “In this process, we hope other countries will act like China and take proper measures to ensure the world economy will be impacted as little as possible and to ensure that supply chains are impacted as little as possible.”

The initial stages of the Covid-19 outbreak in China appeared to warm the often chilly ties between the two countries. Japan provided aid in the form of masks and protective gear -- and in one case a shipment was accompanied by a fragment of ancient Chinese poetry. In return, it received praise from Beijing.

In another step welcomed in Japan, China declared Avigan, an anti-viral produced by Japan’s Fujifilm Holdings Corp. to be an effective treatment for the coronavirus, even though it has yet to be approved for that use by the Japanese.

Yet many in Japan are inclined to blame China for mishandling the early stages of the outbreak and Abe for not blocking visitors from China sooner.

Meanwhile, other issues that have deeply divided the neighbors -- including a territorial dispute over East China Sea islands that brought them close to a military clash in 2012-13 -- are no nearer resolution.

Chinese government ships have continued their patrols around the Japanese-administered islands throughout the crisis, with Japan saying four Chinese ships on Wednesday entered what it sees as its territorial waters.

— With assistance by Lucille Liu

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/202...on-out-of-china

China’s costly cover-Coronavirus cases might have

QUOTE

If Chinese authorities had acted three weeks earlier than they did, the number of coronavirus cases could have been reduced by 95%.

A new study emphasizes the importance of early action in the case of containing an outbreak. Had the Chinese authorities acted one, two, or three weeks earlier, the number of cases would have been reduced by 66 percent, 86 percent and 95 percent respectively.

Earlier action could have halted the geographical expanse of the virus, which makes China’s initial response damning in perspective.

The coronavirus outbreak is a hard reminder that no matter who we are and where we live in the world, some threats affect us all equally. No doubt, some are trying to use this outbreak as leverage for geopolitical power — we are already seeing machinations in this direction. But there are valuable lessons that go far beyond finger-pointing and blaming: there are lessons about how to deal with one of the biggest struggles in modern history.

Researchers using the population mapping group WorldPop ran complex modeling to see how human movement and disease onset would have evolved in different scenarios. They used anonymized data on both human travel and illness onset. This allowed them to see how different changes would have affected the situation, and how variations in the timing and nature of interventions would have affected the speed and transmission of the disease.

The findings are striking.

Deploying non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) quickly is extremely effective in preventing the geographical spread of the virus. If non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) had been applied 3 weeks earlier the spread could have been limited by 95%, researchers found.

Furthermore, delaying containment measures even more would have been devastating. An additional delay of 1, 2, or 3 weeks, would have led to a 3-fold, 7-fold, or 18-fold increase, respectively.

The findings are important as many parts of the world are now in a similar situation to China. Director of the University of Southampton’s WorldPop group, Professor Andy Tatem, explains:

“Our study demonstrates how important it is for countries which are facing an imminent outbreak to proactively plan a coordinated response which swiftly tackles the spread of the disease on a number of fronts. We also show that China’s comprehensive response, in a relatively short period, greatly reduced the potential health impact of the outbreak.

There is a narrow window of opportunity to respond to this disease. Since it will likely be months before effective treatments or vaccines are released, NPI-type measures are crucial.

We need to be smart about how we target it using non-drug-related interventions. Our findings significantly contribute to an improved understanding of how best to implement measures and tailor them to conditions in different regions of the world,” says lead author Dr Shengjie Lai, of the University of Southampton

The study also suggests that social distancing (one such NPI measure) should continue for several months.

Results also suggest that the social distancing intervention should be continued for the next few months in China to prevent case numbers increasing again after travel restrictions were lifted on February 17, 2020,” the study reads.

In the initial phases, China tried to downplay the risk and even questioned doctors who were spreading information about the then-new condition on social media. Eight doctors were brought in for police questioning and essentially silenced.

China’s ulterior reaction was severe, but the initial cover-up attempts were very costly, this new study suggests.

WorldPop, funded primarily by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is a population mapping tool developed to help inform the World Health Organisation and the CDC about the potential spread of COVID-19, helping direct COVID-19 interventions around the planet.

The study has been published in the preprint server medRxiv.

Sos

TLDR. China could have save itself and the world.

Lion of London Bridge. The story of a football fan

QUOTE

A defiant football fan who charged at the three terrorists and took them all on with his bare hands has been nicknamed the Lion of London Bridge for his bravery.

Roy Larner, 47, was drinking in a pub when the three terrorists burst in and he held them off so others could escape, getting fairly cut up in the process.

They chanted "Islam, Islam" and "This is for Allah".

In return, Mr Larner shouted: "I'm f---ing Millwall!!"

He was knifed eight times before the jihadis left the Black & Blue restaurant and bar.

His friends have since gifted him a "learn to run" book, joking about how instead of saving his own life, he put himself in danger by fighting the terrorists.

He told The Sun from hospital: “They had these long knives and started shouting about Allah. Then it was, ‘Islam, Islam, Islam’.

“Like an idiot I shouted back at them. I thought, ‘I need to take the p--- out of these b------s’.”

“I took a few steps towards them and said, ‘F--- you, I’m Millwall’. So they started attacking me.

“I stood in front of them trying to fight them off. Everyone else ran to the back.

“I was on my own against all three of them, that’s why I got hurt so much.

“It was just me, trying to grab them with my bare hands and hold on. I was swinging.

“I got stabbed and sliced eight times. They got me in my head, chest and both hands. There was blood everywhere.

“They were saying, ‘Islam, Islam!’. I said again, ‘F*** you, I’m Millwall!’

“It was the worst thing I could have done as they carried on attacking me.

“Luckily, none of the blows were straight at me or I’d be dead.”

His mother told The Sun: "He’s fearless, my son. He’ll give as good as he gets.

“He’s quite nippy and lippy and wouldn’t back down from a fight.

“He wouldn’t care who it was or if they had a knife or gun.”

After the fight, the brave football fan was taken to St Thomas’s Hospital in critical condition and had surgery to wounds on his head, fingers and chest.

He was taken off the critical list on Sunday.

A JustGiving page set up to reward Mr Larner's bravery has since raised over £30,000.

Fuck you, I'm Millwall!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/06...rrorists-tried/

One cab driver said three men ran towards the market stabbing people - including a young girl - as they ran.

Then, shortly before midnight police said they were attending a third incident in the Vauxhall area.

Police entered bars and restaurants in the Southwark area around 11pm and told customers to get down on the floor amid reports that the incident was still ongoing. People outdoors were told by yelling police officers to run from the area as the atmosphere turned to one of “hysteria”.

British Transport Police said they were aware of reports of “multiple” casualties.

The Prime Minister was being kept informed of developments and Whitehall sources told The Sunday Telegraph last night that the incident “appeared to be” terror-related.

It came less than a fortnight after the Manchester suicide bombing and just three months after a terrorist ploughed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before stabbing a policeman to death at Parliament.

Holly Jones, a BBC reporter at London Bridge when the first incident happened, said a van had swerved off the road into a crowd of pedestrians.

"A white van driver came speeding - probably about 50mph - veered of the road into the crowds of people who were walking along the pavement," she told BBC News.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/03...al-people-mown/

Finland release anti rape video.

QUOTE

As a response to the exponential increase of Rapes and Gang rapes of Finnish women with the influx of so-called "refugees", The Finnish Police of Oulu have released a training video for women called "Say No!". Possession of Pepper spray for women is, like in Sweden where you face up to 6 months in prison, illegal. Any citizen carrying any sort of efficient self defense faces huge fines. The government insists that disarming law abiding Finnish citizens will stop crime - in fact the opposite result has caused devastating effects with crime rate skyrocketing as foreign criminals aren't particularly concerned with complying with weapon laws. Criminals are armed to the teeth, helpless single women will face prison over carrying pepper spray. In a recent case, a 17 year old girl in Denmark has been sentenced to a fine because she hurt the attacker with illegal pepper spray while he was trying to brutalize and rape her.

According to the Police of the city of over 200,000 inhabitants, the top methods for deterring a rapists is apparently saying "No, please go", using "The Force" with your oven gloves, looking angry and hitting the rapist with your handbag. This is extraordinarily awful advice coming from the Police, as physical resistance of a disarmed woman usually has terrible consequences and usually amplifies the violence used by much stronger male attackers, especially of foreign origin. Like drawing a knife when untrained, it escalates the situation as shown in a multitude of incidents all over Europe.

Similar ridiculous advice has come from the Mayor of Cologne after the mass sex attacks by migrant mobs of over 500 women in Germany during New Year's Eve: The female Mayor advised women to "keep 1 meter safety distance and all your problems will be solved". Ironically, just months before the statement she almost died and was in a coma after being stabbed by a crazy man on the street.

The video is also misleading as foreigners are hugely over-represented in rapes and all other types of violent crime - so arguing with a group of 6 foot tall African cultural enrichers during nighttime in an alley might prove to be a little more challenging than using your Oven Glove Force against a submissive small Finn.

This video is extremely dangerous and irresponsible as it can be lethal to try using hand-to-hand combat against superior or multiple opponents without extensive training. Pepper spray or gun ownership as a woman is the only reliable way to defend against rape. The Police and everyone involved in this production giving this terrible advice is directly responsible for every escalation of violence and rape that happens in Oulu and all of Finland because of women following this horrendous advice.

Useful in India.

German minister 'told police to remove the word

QUOTE

A German state minister allegedly tried to pressure police in Cologne to remove the word rape from reports about the mass sexual assaults committed by asylum seekers on New Year's Eve.
Cologne's Express newspaper claimed that the interior ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia pressured a senior police officer to delete 'rape' from an internal report issued on January 1.
'KHK told me that the state control centre wanted the report cancelled and the expression "rape" deleted,' read a document written by another police officer which was printed by the Express.
According to the paper, officer KHK and his colleague were on duty when the events of the night before were being discussed for an interim report.
The night before hundreds of women had been sexually molested and robbed by marauding gangs of refugees, most of them from North Africa.
The initial report that the officers discussed read 'rape, sexual harassment, thefts, committed by a large group of foreign people'.
Officer KHK received a call hours later requesting he delete 'rape' at the behest of the state interior ministry. The officer refused.
NRW interior minister Ralf Jäger, who allegedly wanted the word rape removed from official reports, is facing calls to stand down. He is due to be quizzed by parliamentary colleagues on Thursday.
Need Text
He denied the allegations through a spokesman who said; 'It's not true that the rape on New Year's Eve in Cologne was supposed to be hushed up.'
But his office did admit to 'professional discussions' about the 'criminal classification' of what went on - events which forever changed German perceptions about mass immigration.
Meanwhile police in Germany have arrested a Syrian man on war crimes charges. Ibrahim Al F., aged 41, was detained in North Rhine-Westphalia.
'The accused is strongly suspected of treating people entitled to protection under international humanitarian law cruelly and inhumanely in the autumn of 2012 during the Syrian civil war,' prosecutors said.
He was a member of an anti-Assad militia called Ghuraba al-Sham, operating in and around Aleppo. He is accused of plundering valuable art which he later sold for his own gain.
'Two residents who tried to protect their neighbouring district from plundering are believed to have been captured by the accused and his fighters and held for several days at a makeshift prison under their control,' prosecutors said.
'They were tortured repeatedly in the accused's presence and by him personally, as were six other people who were later kidnapped by the militia.'

Claims a senior police officer was urged to remove word 'rape' from reports
Allegedly given the order by the interior ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia
Ralf Jäger is facing calls to stand down but has since denied the allegation
Internal report drawn up morning after New Year's Eve attacks in Cologne

In another words, India is still the rape capital of the world because the Europeans are defining it differently.
Male Norwegian politician raped by asylum seeker

Male Norwegian politician raped by asylum seeker says he feels GUILTY that his attacker will now be deported because the man might suffer back in Somalia

QUOTE

A Norwegian politician has spoken of how how he felt guilty that the Somali asylum seeker who raped him was deported.
Karsten Nordal Hauken, from Ås, Akershus, was raped in his home and the perpetrator was subsequently caught and jailed for 4.5 years.
However, when Nordal Hauken found out that the man was to be deported back to Somalia after serving his time, he reveals he felt guilt that the man would possibly face hardship in his old country.
Nordal Hauken has told his story as part of a television series on Norwegian state broadcaster NRK called Jeg mot Meg [Me against Myself] about mental illness and psychological struggles.
Nordal Hauken, who describes himself as a 'young Socialist Left Party member, feminist and anti-racist', was attacked in his own home.
The politician reveals that he struggled to come to terms with being a heterosexual male rape victim, and subsequently self-medicated with alcohol and cannabis.
'I am a heterosexual man who was raped by a Somalian asylum seeker,' Nordal Hauken writes for NRK.
'My life fell into ruin, but now I feel guilty about him being sent out of the country.'
He reveals how he was called up by the prison shortly before the perpetrator was to be deported to Somalia, having served 4.5 years in prison for the rape.
'I felt relief and happiness that he would be gone forever. I felt like the Norwegian State had taken responsibility to carry out the ultimate revenge, like an angry father confronting it's child's attacker.
'But I also had a strong feeling of guilt and responsibility. I was the reason that he would not be in Norway anymore, but rather sent to a dark uncertain future in Somalia
He adds: I see him mostly like a product of an unfair world, a product of an upbringing marked by war and despair.

Norwegian politician says he feels guilty that his rapist was deported
Karsten Nordal Hauken was raped by Somali asylum seeker
Rapist was convicted and deported after serving his sentence
Nordal Hauken writes that he feels sorry for his attacker

European is taking 'white man's guilt' the a new level?
Dear \k\. recommend me some games

Stopped gaming for the past 3-4 years, just bought a new laptop and is interested in some light gaming.

Already installed hearthstone and heroes of the storm, though not entirely sure on should I get Diablo 3 and its expansion, and LOL and DOTA2 is out of the question because of my slow reflexes. Barely played HOTS because of the reason mentioned before, but HOTS is fun due to relatively short game compared to the old DOTA. SC2 is out of the question since RTS isn't my forte. No FPS please.

Currently browsing Steam, though it seems that there's many games that are really unknown to me there, apart of some relatively great classics like SWKOTOR, SWKOTOR2 and Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Any good games that I should try that is good for the past 5 years? Recommendation should based on whether the game is still good and possibly is on discounted sale, preferably RPGs.

Currently on wishlist.

1.) Skyrim
2.) Mass Effect - though hesitant to try due to the review of it's botched ending in ME3.
3.) Arkham series, excluding Arkham Knight.
4.) The Witcher series.
5.) Fallout 3 - It says it doesn't run well on latest Windows, anybody tried it on Windows 8/10? Fallout 4 is still expensive.
6.) GTA - latest one still expensive though.

Undecided.
1.) Football manager.
2.) FIFA\PES
3.) Civilization(Is it still good?)
4.) Total War - not on steam, but how is the current latest game compared to Rome: Total War? Has it gone too fast or preferably back to it's roots where tactical maneuvering plays a huge role in the matchup than straight brute force attacks?

Appreciate all gaming sifus feedback.
