Project Maelstrom

There was this article on LYN about Bittorrent's Project Maelstrom, a P2P browser, here.

I found the concept rather interesting, basically, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the browser is able to fetch information from multiple sources, instead of the host server. Pretty much exactly like torrents la..

It seems like there would be security risks, but I'm not an expert in these things. In my mind, I think if the architecture works, it would speed up the web considerably. It would also allow for communication even when the host server has gone down.

Anyone care to input their thoughts?

[WTA] Windows 8 'Ready" Hardware

I've been looking at some PC hardware, as I wanna upgrade a few things come end of the year, and I notice these "Windows 8 Ready" stickers and quotes everywhere. Personally, I call BS on these things, especially on motherboards , processors, RAM and GCs.

My educated guess is Win8 is supported by the driver, that's all. Am I right? What other 'hardware' modifications could possibly take place to make a certain product Win8 ready?

Hey all, I wanna build a decent SFF gaming rig. My budget around RM 3k, but trying to save as much as I can. So far, here's what I got:

Total comes up to 3.2k. I don't plan to OC, and I wanna play 1080p with High to Max settings if possible.

FYP Help

Hey guys, I'm totally new to this forum, or at least this section of LYN, but I'll be honest, I need help/suggestions for my FYP (Final Year Project), and I guessed it wouldn't hurt to ask here, so here goes:

I'm building a floor mopping robot, and I'm currently stuck at the development of a floor cleanliness system. I need a sensor that gives me the cleanliness value of the water being sucked up by the robot, so I can use the input from that in a Fuzzy Logic system to control the movement of the robot.

I've looked into Turbidity Sensors, which are perfect but way too expensive (RM1k+), I only have a budget of around RM 300. I was thinking of optical sensors as an alternative, but not sure how they would work in this situation to determine the cleanliness of a liquid, in this case, water.

Any suggestions on which sensor to use or how to use an optical sensor in this situation would really help me out. Thanks guys! PEACE!

Yo gurus! I'm in the market for a lappie, with a budget of 5K. Thing is, I so used to a big screen that 15.6in doesn't do it for me. I'm on the lookout for a 17incher! I really like the new Dell XPS 17, but and like any level-headed person, I am holding back until Sandy Bridge hits, so no hurry yet. Although, I really like my new lappie not only have a 17inch screen, but FHD (1920x1080) resso too. The Dell ships with a miserable 768p LiquidCrystalTurd. Other than those uber shiny but totally wallet raping gaming rigs, what other choices do I have? oh yes, ermm.. casual gaming, lots of typing, surfing and video watching . Thanks youz all!

ROM for Touch Pro 2

Hey all, I wanted to try out some ROMs for my Touch Pro 2, currently using the stock WinMo 6.5 one, kinda annoyed how slow it is, especially with SMSs. Somehow the phones handles pictures and videos fairly fast but lags on SMSes.. weird.. So I wanted to ask if anyone used any ROMs that are quicker then the stock ones, yet stable? Thanks!!

Hello all, I'm looking for a laptop around 4k, in the 15" category.

At first I was looking at the Dell Studio 14 and 15, I liked the Dells but alot of my friends use Dell and have alot of quality problems, most are Inspiron laptops and I'm not really sure if the Studio line is better. And I didn't like the weak GC either.

Then I was looking into the Asus, but the website is kinda confusing and so far, I think I'm supposed to look at the "N" series laptops. I think the N82 or N61 would be nice, although niether is 15", but I rather go smaller then bigger, so I guess the 14" N82 would be a solid bet.

Then I stumbled upon the Alienware M11x, which I kinda fell for at first sight. I love the design and keyboard. But, the weak processor and small screen kinda sux. I'm not gonna game alot, just once in a while, and not high-end games either, but I would like to run at atleast medium settings on COD4 or L4D. I think the GC on the M11x and Asus can handle that.

I'm not so sure about Acer, their cheap but I never liked Acer's quality, Toshiba's is in my black books, coz my Dad's Qosmio gave him lots of problems, and the support services were craptastic.

As for now, I'm on the fence between the Asus and the Alienware. Average battery life is fine for me, I'm ok with screens between 13 and 15, weight isn't an issue and I'm mainly gonna use it for multimedia stuff, movies, music, and internet, secondary is gaming and once in a while word processing. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!

Remote Surveillance

Hey all, I'm looking up on how to setup a remote surveillance system in my home. Basically, I wanna view what goes on at home when I'm outstation, because the apartment is always empty when I'm not around and there have been a few robberies in the area recently.

I've checked out a few companies that provide the service, but there's alot and mostly based overseas. I was thinking if anyone here has any experience or suggestions on how should I proceed. Thanks!

Logitech G15 Problem

I've been using this keyboard for a while now, almost 6 months. But not long ago, when I started the PC, none of my keys worked, except for the G-keys, the media controls, and the LCD buttons. I've assigned shortcuts to my g-keys and they work fine, but the other 104 normal keys don't respond.

I temporarily overcame this problem by switching to a different USB port. this worked, so I assumed the port had a problem. But I've tested all the hardware I could find on that port, and everything was fine, my webcam, mouse, thumbdrive, wireless adapter, audio card, all worked perfectly on that port, except for my keyboard. Any ideas on what could cause this problem?

UPDATE: I've e-mailed Logitech about this, still waiting for their reply.

Monitor Mod

Yo guys, I wanna attach my monitor to my casing. Namely, my 19-in widescreen Samsung 940BW to my CM690. My first thought was to use a wall mounting stand for the monitor and attach it to the side of the casing, on the side panel, to be exact. But I can't find the wall mounting for my monitor anywhere, anyone got any ideas or opinions? Much appreciated.

password_viewer and USBworm

I got hit with the password_viewer virus a few days back, but after scanning with AVG, it disappeared. Then, today, I got hit again with a USBworm, which blocks Firefox access and permanently hides my hidden folders. I got rid of the worm by stopping the process and manually deleting the folder, I solved the hidden folder problem with a registry tweak. But now I have another problem, whenever I run the "cmd" command from the "Run" box, my PC shuts down. I searched the internet and found it to be linked to the password_viewer virus, and I can't seem to find a solution. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

dudes,i cant download anything from dattebayo[where u download bleach and naruto(anime)],but i can download from torrentspy,i scanned my com for viruses,but nothing,spyware also,but nothing too,i tried downloading utorrent from the utorrent website,also cannot,im currently using bitcomet and flashget now.i even checked my zonealarm,to check my program control,internet access and all that,i have it all set,but still the same,i means its like when click the episode of the anime i wanna download from dattebayo,the loading will stop,bot that i hang or anything,the loading will just stop.
