Heartbroken 17yo teenager falls to his death

KUALA LUMPUR: A heartbroken teenager fell 10 floors to his death at his school in what police believe was a suicide.

The 17-year-old boy, whose name is being withheld, had reportedly asked permission from his teacher to leave class at the A Block of his school complex in Kuchai Lama for the bathroom at 12pm on Monday.

Unbeknownst to the teacher and his classmates, the student had left a note on his desk to wish his family and friends ‘farewell’.

“The boy was later found by another student lying face down on the school field, 10 floors down from where his class was.

“His nose was bleeding and his body was motionless,” said Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Azlee Abdullah.

Paramedics who arrived in an ambulance soon after declared the student dead at the scene. His body was brought to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for postmortem.

ACP Muhammad Azlee said that investigations found no evidence of foul play and pointed to the incident being a possible suicide as a result of relationship troubles.

“The student was said to have been a cheerful, disciplined individual who loved to help others.

“However, it was revealed that he had recently had a break up and was under stress due to the relationship ending,” he said.

The case has been classified as sudden death.

Malay Unity assembly attracts thousands

Thousands of Malay youths and veterans gathered tonight at the Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur to attend the Malay Unity Movement assembly aimed to strengthen unity in empowering the Malay community.

There are some among them who travelled hundreds of kilometres to realise the gathering's main agenda, which according to the organiser, is towards reviving the unity and reestablishing the greatness of the Malays.

The event which will see various high profile Malay leaders attending, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was scheduled to begin with Maghrib prayers.

At the climax of the event, Najib is scheduled to deliver a special mandate in which the contents of the message is not only to be cherished by the audience at the stadium, but also for all the Malays who prioritised unity nationwide.

The event's itinerary also includes events such as the launch of the big agendas of the 21st century, signing of the 21st century Malay "Waad", mandates by Malay leaders, and launch of the permanent secretariat of the Malay Renaissance Movement.

One participant, Basirah Musa, 61, said he had long been waiting for such an event to be held to realise the unity of the nation, which needed to be strengthened, punctuated by a high sense of pride and self esteem.

Musa, who arrived from Slim River, Perak, said he and his colleagues departed as early as noon to see Malays from around the country gathering and being united under one roof.

"An assembly like this should be continued to be held in the future to ensure that the spirit of the Malays does not fade, especially among the younger generation," he said.

Ramlah Shaari, 55, from Bagan Serai, Perak, said she was proud to see the Malays assemble together in unity when they were faced with many challenges.

"The programme is expected to create awareness among the younger generation and open the minds of villagers like me who may sometimes forget to polish the spirit and unity of the Malays," she said.

For Mohd Rizal Shukri, a 23-year-old medical student at the Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, his presence at the event is to translate the spirit of Malay unity which sets aside any differences to move towards the same goal.

"I have also come to witness for myself, in close proximity, our prime minister, and to listen to the contents of his speech," he said.

The rally was initiated by the Malay Consultative Council (MPM) in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Bumiputera Agenda Driving Unit (Teraju), Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), and National Civics Bureau (BTN). – Bernama, February 28, 2015.

Police have disrupted the second attempted launch of cartoonist Zunar's latest book, ROS in Kangkongland, and will arrest the satirist if he proceeds with the event on the book featuring the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Zunar, whose full name is Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, said he was told by police officials that he would require a permit to continue with the launch, held at Brickfields in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, today.

"I don't need a permit for this, this is a private place. I will proceed to sell my books because this is my right, why do you need a permit for a book publication?

"It is ridiculous to have 20 police personnel interfere in this event. This book is not even banned, I don't even know what offence I have committed," Zunar said at the event.

"This is a form of intimidation and harassment."

Earlier this morning, he had tweeted: "Kira2 20 polis diketuai asp ramasamy dari balai brickfield utk menangkap saya di lokasi launchinf di brickfields" (About 20 police officers led by ASP Ramasamy from the Brickfields station are here to arrest me at the launch in Brickfields.)

The first book launch on February 14 was distrupted after police confiscated about 200 copies of the book while they were being transported to the event held in Petaling Jaya.

Police at the event today were in uniform as well as in plainclothes.

When approached, the officer identified as ASP Ramasamy told reporters they were only present as part of their crime prevention duties, and said the police were not clear if Zunar had violated any laws.

He said police "have no authority to give any statement regarding the issue" and declined to elaborate, also refusing to give his full name.

Zunar was seen making several phone calls and one of the book launch organisers, Ridzaldy Rafie, said the cartoonist was trying to contact lawyers for assistance.

At 10.45am, however, Ridzaldy and others in the organising team began taking down banners and keeping the books, indicating a temporary end to the event.

"We received a call from Zunar saying that the lawyers had advised him not to continue with the event," Rizaldy said.

He then told people that they could still buy the books online and started receiving orders.

"ROS in Kangkongland" is a collection of cartoons on Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

The cartoonist also has previous works banned and is currently under police investigation for sedition.

He was held in remand for three days earlier this month after posting on his Twitter account a critical remark about the judiciary following the Federal Court's verdict to uphold Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy conviction.

On February 14 after the first failed book launch, Zunar had said that every time he was detained, his printers would also be raided. – February 28, 2015.

Hisapmudin says remark taken out of context

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today defended his recent comment on the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (Isis) and his colleague Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, saying that it was taken out of context.

Hishammuddin, who hit out Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders for demanding his explanation on the matter, said it is ridiculous and mischievous of them to have misinterpreted it to mean that he condoned racism.

The Umno deputy president said he was merely addressing issues pertaining to youth radicalisation and the challenges ahead for national security.

"Those who relate Ismail's statement to the Isis issue are not making any sense. I find it mischievous how my statements were taken out of context and I believe those behind it have hidden personal agendas," he said.

Hishammuddin recently, in his attempt to defend Ismail's call on Facebook urging Malay consumers to boycott Chinese-operated businesses, was quoted as saying that, "if you want to talk about moderation, Isis burning the Jordanian pilot is far worse than this case involving Ismail."

His comment immediately drew flak from various opposition leaders including the likes of Dr Dzulkelfy Ahmad, Nurul Izzah Anwar and Ong Kian Ming who asked if Hishammuddin was approving racism just because Ismail's remark was not as bad as Isis's brutality.

Hishammuddin said today that there is no point in playing up the issue as it would only worsen racial relations.

"I am not naive to link Isis with the price of items and Sabri's remarks. I have been and am very consistent in condemning both acts of terrorism and racism," he said.

Ismail, who is also the Bera MP and the agriculture and agro-based industries minister, had caused tension after refusing to apologise for his comment despite being heavily criticised.

Ismail had said earlier last week in a Facebook post, which he has since removed: "The majority of consumers are Malay, Chinese are a minority, if the Malays boycott their businesses, they will have no choice but to reduce their prices."

He admitted to making the post and later said it was not directed at all Chinese but only traders who refused to reduce their prices. – February 9, 2015.

Still refusing to retract or apologise over his call for a boycott of Chinese businesses, Umno minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Barisan Nasional (BN) component party, MCA, should thank him for protecting Chinese consumers as he had their interests at heart.

MCA, the lead Chinese party in the ruling BN coalition, should be thankful to him for fighting profiteering, the agriculture and agro-based industries minister said.

Ismail said the Chinese, too, have expressed unhappiness that the prices of goods remained high despite a drop in fuel prices in the country.

"Many Chinese consumers are also disappointed that the prices of goods are not going down. My message is thank me for defending the Chinese, too," he told The Malaysian Insider.
"So, why is there a need for me to apologise when I am defending those who are burdened by the high prices of goods.

"No way nak minta maaf (I will apologise)," he added.

Ismail was responding to MCA's insistence that he apologise for his remark urging Malay consumers to boycott Chinese businesses to force a drop in the price of goods in line with lower oil prices.

Ismail had said this earlier last week in a Facebook post, which he has since removed: "The majority of consumers are Malay, Chinese are a minority, if the Malays boycott their businesses, they will have no choice but to reduce their prices."

He admitted to making the post and later said it was not directed at all Chinese but only traders who refused to reduce their prices.

MCA leaders, who have criticised Ismail, include president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan and Youth chief Chong Sin Woon.

Ong issued a harsh statement, demanding an apology and calling Ismail's remarks "racist", as well as charging the minister with a "lack of restraint and maturity".

Liow said he would raise the matter at the next cabinet meeting and wanted Ismail to be held responsible for his remarks.

Ismail, however, dismissed the MCA plan to revive the matter at the cabinet level, saying the subject was closed after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had issued a statement clearing him of racism.

"I don't think MCA will do so. It is settled," Ismail told The Malaysian Insider.

The Prime Minister's Department on February 5 said Ismail’s call for Malays to boycott Chinese traders was not aimed at Chinese, specifically, but at all businesses which refused to lower prices.

Najib maintained that BN would continue to support and look out for the interest of all races.

Ismail said he remained unperturbed by his critics, including the opposition, who wanted him sacked from the cabinet, as there were others who supported him.

"Some youth movements and non-governmental organisations are calling for my resignation but at the same time, I have other youth movements who supported my view.

"A group of university students are collecting one million signatures to show their support.

"I believe that everyone, no matter the race, should stand united and push these errant wholesalers and traders to bring down the prices of their goods."

Ismail, who is also an Umno Supreme Council leader, challenged the opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat, to take to the streets and protest against profiteers.

For protesting against Ismail's boycott call, MCA was the target of some 100 supporters of the Umno politician as well as 92 Umno division chiefs, who said the Chinese party had no right to ask Ismail to resign as appointments to cabinet positions were the prime minister's prerogative. – February 9, 2015.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri has yet to record his statement with the police over his Facebook post urging Malays to boycott profiteering Chinese traders as his busy schedule has kept him from doing it, Malaysiakini reported today.

The police intended to haul up the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry minister to the nearest station yesterday, but a spokesperson told the the Malaysiakini news portal that the appointment had been deferred due to his busy work schedule.

The police did not reveal when Ismail would record his statement, and only said it would be done as soon as possible.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters that Ismail had been summoned and the latter agreed to give his full cooperation.
“We are setting up for a meeting with him in the evening after the Cabinet meeting has ended," Khalid said yesterday.

He said those from MCA, Gerakan and DAP, who had lodged police reports over Ismail’s post, would also be summoned so that the case could be settled amicably.

Ismail, the Bera MP, courted controversy after he wrote in a Facebook post that Malay consumers had a role in helping Putrajaya fight profiteers by using their collective power to lower the price of goods.

"The majority of consumers are Malay, Chinese are a minority, if the Malays boycott their businesses, they will surely have no choice but to reduce their prices," Ismail wrote.

He also singled out the OldTown White Coffee café chain owned by OldTown Bhd, saying DAP MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham owned shares in the company.

"As long as the Malays don't change, the Chinese will take the opportunity to oppress the Malays," said Ismail.

In a TV programme last night, Ismail urged those angry with his call for a boycott of Chinese businesses to look at it positively, saying that a boycott leading to lower prices of goods would benefit all races.

“The effect is that everyone will benefit, whether they are Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans,” he said on TV1's "Dialog" programme.

Ismail also said that people should look at the "bigger picture", beyond the mention of race in his post.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib had defended Ismail after listening to his explanation during the Cabinet meeting.

He said Ismail’s call to boycott profiteering traders did not target a particular race, and urged Malaysians not to prolong the dispute. – February 5, 2015.

Taking it to the next level

So guys, recently I got to know this girl by chance online through a mutual friend, because I had to ask her about serious stuffs. We started by chatting about our serious stuffs, but slowly we progressed into some more relaxed chat topics like fav movies, our own holiday trips etc and I got to know her better. I tried very hard to drag the chat as long as possible by only replying once a day, and she seems cool with it as well. Based on our chats, I can deduce that she quite an intelligent girl, doesn't trust anyone easily, and knows how to carry herself properly. In other words, a decent girl. Our online chat lasted for one month.

Finally, the opportunity came, I got to know that she'll be studying the same course as I did, and I sold my second hand books to her (yes, she's two years younger than me, and we're both still in our teen years). So we had a chance to meet up. I took a leap of faith by asking whether she's fine with having deserts (tong sui) and chat since we're meeting up anyway, thank god she agreed. So I cycled to her neighbourhood (we actually stay quite near) and we walked to the small humble desert shop. Had a quality 1.5hrs with her, and she paid for our tong sui because her purse was on her hands thats why she's faster. Although it's just a mere RM3, that still means I owe her a small treat. In the end, she seems happy with the time spend together.

So guys, how do I take it to the next level of friendship and eventually relationship? We have a second meet up coming soon, because I purposely left out one of the books that I'm supposed to sell to her

Please no shopping mall and/or movie dates, they're way too mainstream and of no help. Appreciate any realistic advice and ideas.

Guna Akta Hasutan atas pembangkang yang kata dapat

Putrajaya digesa mengambil tindakan mengikut Akta Hasutan terhadap pembangkang yang sering menggunakan alasan mendapat sokongan 52% pengundi dalam Pilihan Raya Umum ke-13 (PRU13) lalu, kerana ia merupakan hasutan dan pembohongan terbesar, kata sebuah pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO) hari ini.

Presiden Pertubuhan Minda Sosial dan Prihatin (PMSP) Ramesh Rao berkata, perkara ini dipertikaikan kerana sokongan tersebut tidak dicerminkan melalui program yang dilakukan Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

Beliau mengambil contoh petisyen memansuhkan Akta Hasutan yang dibentangkan Ahli Parlimen Shah Alam Khalid Samad bulan lalu dan beberapa demonstrasi yang dianjurkan.

"Mereka sering menggunakan alasan 52% rakyat menyokong mereka, tapi kalau kita lihat daripada petisyen Akta Hasutan, hanya 3,005 lebih (tandatangan), mana 52% yang dikatakan?

"Lagi, demonstrasi minyak berapa yang hadir? Demonstrasi pendidikan, program Rakyat Hakim Negara, langsung tidak dapat sambutan. Ini semua tidak menggambarkan sokongan 52%.

"Saya minta kerajaan ambil tindakan tegas terhadap pihak yang mengulangi semula 52% sokongan terhadap PR ini. Ini satu sentimen menghasut. Tangkap mereka dalam Akta Hasutan," katanya pada sidang media di Petaling Jaya, hari ini.

Tindakan terbaru blogger seks Alvin Tan, yang dipercayai menghina Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah dalam status akaun Facebooknya, disifatkan sebagai 'pengganas' oleh Mingguan Malaysia.

Melalui ruangan Awang Selamat, akhbar itu berkata, sudah terlalu banyak penghinaan dibuat Alvin terhadap pihak berkuasa seperti ketua polis negara sehinggalah kepada perdana menteri.

Malah, institusi raja turut dicemari serta dicabar, begitu juga ke atas Islam dan orang Melayu, menurut Awang.

"Awang melihat perbuatan beliau ancaman kepada keselamatan dan keharmonian negara, yang sama bahaya, malah mungkin lebih berbanding individu yang menyertai, menyokong dan menyalurkan dana untuk kegiatan Negara Islam (IS).

"Dengan kata lain, tiada bezanya antara Alvin dengan pengganas," katanya dalam akhbar mingguan itu, hari ini.

Katanya, pihak berkuasa perlu bertindak lebih agresif untuk menyelesaikannya memandangkan perbuatan Alvin itu keterlaluan.

"Kegagalan bertindak akan memberikan isyarat yang salah kepada rakyat Malaysia dan menjadi dorongan kepada individu lain untuk menghina agama, kaum dan institusi raja sesuka hati," katanya.

Alvin dipercayai memuat naik kenyataan itu di Los Angeles, California, Amerika Syarikat berdasarkan catatan lokasi di laman Facebooknya, yang mendakwa sultan tidak mempunyai kuasa untuk memberi dan menarik balik gelaran kebesaran kepada mana-mana pihak.

Status tersebut dipercayai ditujukan kepada Sultan Selangor selepas baginda menarik balik gelaran Datuk Seri daripada Ketua Pembangkang Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim berkuatkuasa 3 November lalu.

Alvin dan bekas teman wanitanya Vivian Lee didakwa mengikut Akta Hasutan kerana memuat naik posting 'bak kut teh' pada bulan Ramadan tahun lalu, namun melanggar syarat ikat jamin dan lari mendapatkan suaka politik di Amerika Syarikat.

Sementara itu, Awang dalam ruangan sama berkata negeri lain juga perlu mengambil tindakan sama dengan melucutkan darjah kebesaran Anwar yang menjadi punca kepada banyak permasalahan sehingga menggugat kepentingan Islam, institusi raja dan kestabilan negara.

"Meskipun tindakan ke atas Anwar itu diambil oleh Sultan Selangor dalam konteks negeri tersebut, persoalan berlegar apakah negeri lain akan mengambil langkah yang sama ke atas beliau.

"Memandangkan Anwar dalam reaksinya menyatakan beliau tidak minta gelaran itu, tiada masalah besar jika gelaran yang diterima daripada negeri lain mahu pun pusat, dilucutkan," katanya.

Katanya, orang kanan Anwar yang kini menjadi Menteri Besar Selangor Mohamed Azmin Ali perlu menasihati ketua umum PKR itu supaya melepaskan jawatannya sebagai penasihat ekonomi Selangor.

Katanya, Azmin tidak boleh mengheret dirinya dalam permasalahan Anwar yang makin besar liabilitinya kepada kerajaan negeri selain parti.

"Kini sultan bermenteri besarkan seorang yang mendapat khidmat penasihat ekonomi negeri yang baginda sudah murka. Takkan Azmin tidak faham," katanya. – 7 Disember, 2014.

Trying to get to know a girl

Hi cc-ians, so this is what happened:

So while I was scrolling through my insta newsfeed, saw one of my friend liking a photo which caught my eye. So I went on to follow that girls' account and added her on facebook. She accepted my friend request swiftly even though we're strangers at that time with just a few of distant mutual friends. I went on to do a little research on her stuffs, trying to get a picture of how she is as a person. So basically, she's the same age as me, quite highly educated, quite a decent girl and seems quite approachable. I actually wanted to message her on FB to get to know her, but I know chances of failing is just really high.

And then I got to know that she's currently working part time at a pharmacy now. I created a fake account on fb and messaged her friend to ask where she work with the reason being wanna reconcile with her after some misunderstanding, I got to know where she works exactly after some persuasion and some bullshiting. So I decided to man up and go to her working place to know her in person after just one week adding her on FB.

I was quite disappointed to know that she's actually working as a stock checker, not a promoter. So I still tried to grab her attention by asking her about some recommendation for some product, however she referred me to a real pharmacist. After spending almost 1hr in the pharmacy wondering around and faking that I'm on the phone, I paid up when she was just by the exit. So I approached her by saying that she's seems familiar and I saw her in one of the photos by a mutual friend, and I asked her name, which she replies very shyly as well.

And that I went out, but I forgot to introduce back myself, because I kinda panicked. So I wondered around that area for 2 hours, and went back to that shop after that. I told her that I forgot to introduce myself back to her, and I tried to strike a convo with her. She said that it's not too convenient to chat during working, so she asked me to messaged her instead. At that moment, I thought I finally did the right thing and it'll be a success.

So I went back home and unfriend her on FB, changed my name, profile and cover pic and re-add her, just to not make it too obvious because I only added her one week before 'coincidentally' meeting her. But she didn't accept my friend request this time around. So I messaged her anyway, saying that we met at her shop that day. Messaged seen but no reply. I messaged her again the next day, saying

'Anyway just to let you know, the photo that I saw you in it is the same one as your cover photo, it's from XXX's profile. I hope you don't find it weird tho, because I really have a good memory in remembering the photos that I once saw.

And urm, I'm not sure why you're not replying my message, since you asked me to message you at the first place. I'm guessing maybe you're just busy or tired working. But I sincerely hope that we could be friends, since we have a chance to meet coincidentally. It's also not often that I get to talk with someone from XXXXX too hahaha.

I really do hope to hear from you soon .'

So guys, I know many of you will ask me to just move on. But I just dislike being left hanging around. Why wouldn't she reply my message after asking me to message her at the first place???

May I know what do you think I should have done if you're in my shoes? And is there anything that I can still do? Like going to her shop for the second time? Thanks for reading this.

P/S: I'm quite sure she's still single.

UPDATE (2/12/2014)
So I went to her shop on 29Nov, and passed the letter to her colleague as she was busy doing something at that moment. What I wrote in the letter was to apologize to her, and then to introduce myself properly, and then I asked her whether is it possible to be pen pals.

Then yesterday (1 Dec), she suddenly accepted my FB friend request after almost one month ignoring it. Could this mean that something is about to happen?

Hi guys, seeking some opinions from all sifus here

There's this girl that I added on fb, same age as me. We basically have almost nothing in common, diff college and diff high school, and only having a few mutual friends who i'm not close with either.

Based on looking at some of her photos, she gave me the feeling that she's abit reserved and doesn't post stuffs often on fb, and she's one very decent girl. So do you think it will be a good idea to get to know her by messaging her on fb? If yes, how should I start in order to make it less awkward? Thanks
