Taobao Shipping by Sea - crate or not?

Hi all,

I’m looking to get some items from Taobao for my home reno and I’m a bit confused about whether to get the items shipped with wooden crate added or not.

I'm just curious if I can get some insights as to what type of items should I add the wooden crate for? And what type of shipment? I’ve got some questions below and hoping to learn from your experiences.

If I add the crate, what will it help? It prevents the packaging from collapsing if there’s something heavier pressed on top of my package is that right?

If I don’t add the crate, does it mean that my things will be squashed and broken mostly likely?

How do I decide if I should use sea small or sea large parcel? Is it just purely based on the weight/volumetric weight/dimension and see which one is cheaper? Does it change how the packages are handled (and hence need crate or not )

SEA LARGE PARCEL
- Furnitures like cabinets etc - YES
- what about single arm chair? - YES or NO? (The seller said they don’t do crate, and there’s no need for it cause it’s packed very well and carefully)
- For lighting items, should I use LARGE or SMALL parcel? Do I need to add crate or all the lights will come squashed?

SEA SMALL PARCEL
- do I need crate?
- For lighting items, same question as above

AIR SMALL PARCEL
- probably no need crate right?

Hi all,

I've been having sporadic internet issue at home and I wonder if anyone can help me understand how things work with TMNet Streamyx.

I've been subscribed to 4MB Streamyx package for a long time, and every so often the connection will be very slow (wired and wireless). This past 3 months it's been consistently slow, I've been getting only 400kbps - 700kbps download mostly, especially during night time, and around 100kbps upload.

Here are a few things the technicians that cam have done --
1. Reset the port
2. Told me nothing's wrong, report again if the problem persists
3. Set the port bandwidth to higher than 4MB (sometimes 5MB, sometimes 6MB)

So all these were done before and the problem would come back after a few weeks.

I had the same problem again last month, so I called 100 and complaint, but nothing was done after 1 week. I called again, and the rep said, she'll get someone to look into this ASAP. After 2 weeks, nothing happened. I called again and the rep said, "The technician left a note saying that he went to your house but the house was closed (meaning no one was home)". I was like WHAT?! I did not get any call. Anyway the report was closed by the technician.

So I had to open another report last night. And I insisted the technician to call me before before they're coming. So someone came this morning, and then the technician did a speedtest (Wired, on his laptop, using Maxis site). And he was getting 1.8MBps. So he made a call to somewhere and then mentioned my report number, and phone number then said "lima".

Then, the technician did a speedtest again and it's showing 4.18MBps on the speedtest (and 300kbps up) and told me, ok see it's working now. Sign here.

So I asked him, so what was the problem? What did you do?

He said he had the port bandwidth set to 5MB.

My question is -- Some technician actually reset my port bandwidth to something higher before, but then when my internet became slow, I called 100, the rep on the phone will do some test on her end and all, then she will say "OH! Your port is set to a different bandwidth, it' set to 5MB. That's why it's slow, because the bandwidth doesnt match your package (4MB)." So she'd go on and reset the port bw to 4MB, and then it wouldnt improve the situation. And I'd have to wait for the technician again.

I am just curious if that's really the case? This has happened a few times in circles, I wonder if the internet will work for a few weeks, then it will become slow again and I'd have to call 100 and then hear the rep tell me "Oh your bw is set to be a different from your package..."
