GEORGE TOWN, March 31 (Bernama) -- The status of Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) has officially been upgraded and is now known as the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas announced the matter at the presentation ceremony of the letter of declaration of MBPP's new status at Seri Mutiara here this morning.

The ceremony began with the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Arpah Abdul Razak presenting the letter of declaration to Abdul Rahman.

"Hence, with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah who declares, establishes and orders that MPPP, from Jan 1, 2015, becomes a city council known as MBPP with specific rights of a city," Abdul Rahman declared.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng then announced the appointment of Datuk Patahiyah Ismail as the first Penang Island Mayor, who later took her oath of office and pledge of loyalty before Abdul Rahman.

Speaking to reporters later, Patahiyah said the appointment was indeed a huge responsibility and that she would do her level best to discharge her duties.

"We will improve our services. In planning each activity or project, we will definitely involve the community," she said, adding that her appointment was also an achievement for women in the country as she had become the first woman mayor in the country.

シンガポールのリー・クアンユー元首相の国葬の場においてあろうことか安倍首相が居眠りをしてしまい、世界中に恥を晒す事態となっています。

3月29日に行われたシンガポール建国の父と呼ばれるリー・クアンユー初代首相の国葬に参列した安倍首相。国会開催中であるにも関わらず、強行日程でシンガポールを訪れましたが、国葬中、各国首脳と共にテレビカメラに映される中で居眠りをしている瞬間を激写されてしまいました。

この映像はシンガポールはもちろん世界中に流されており、安倍首相の様子を見た世界中のネットユーザーから「Abe Sleeping」と驚きと物笑いのタネになってしまっています。

Hanare at The Intermark gets its fresh seafood from none other than the Tsukiji market in Tokyo and they only serve freshly shucked oysters, never frozen ones. With such credentials, it’s no wonder that Hanare stands out as one of my favourite Japanese restaurants to go for buffets. The other plus point about Hanare is that it’s a very cosy restaurant and not teeming with boisterous diners although the restaurant was pretty busy on the Sunday we were there.

At RM148 per person (add RM28 for free flow of sake and draught beer), it’s pretty good value for money, considering that most of their offerings use top-notch ingredients.
