Planning my Renovation for Corner Lot

I have a double storey corner lot and I plan to do the following:
1. Renovate the back of the house until the back wall about 6 feet ( I know there is a setback but I understand that it is allowed for this taman as many have renovated to the wall). So an additional 120 sqft.

2. Extend to the side about 12 x 35 both upstairs and downstairs which means an additional 840sft built up

3 As part of the extension, the downstairs bathroom will be extended and reconfigured to add an enclosed shower and a japanese style toilet and a laundry room will be added next to the bathroom. The kitchen will also be relocated and new cabinets and an island be built. An L shape bifold sliding door will be added to allow access to the garden from the dining area.

4. On the second floor, would like to add a bathroom with a bathtub and a large bedroom with a walk in closet. The layout upstairs will be reconfigured with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom being extended as well. After renovation the house will have 5 bedrooms 4 bathrooms and 1 laundry room.

5. A small driveway allowing me to drive through one gate and exit another at the side of the house.

My queries:-

a. With so much change in the layout will a budget of RM200K be sufficient?
b. Do I need an architect?
c. Will such a driveway with another entrance/exit be allowed?

Thanks for any feedback or input.

US or Canada for Veterinary Medicine

My daughter has a choice to either go to CSU in the US or University of Guelph in Canada for Veterinary Medicine. She will receive about RM150K per year scholarship. The rest will be financed by her own savings and a little contribution from me. So I was wondering which should she choose in terms of cost and environment.

Is it true that for CSU, she would have to study longer? i.e. 7 years whereas for Guelph is only 5 years?

Separate Travelling Class

I don't know if it has been discussed before but I did a search and could not find this topic.

Anyway I have always traveled at least 2 times a year with my daughter since she was 4. She is now 18 and recently a friend of mine wanted to travel with us. She had the means to travel First Class and and wanted me to travel together with her. Although I could travel 1st Class with her but that would mean that I would have to pay double because of my daughter. She then said why don't I let her sit in Economy while I sit in First with her. I was a little outraged at the suggestion but it made me think: Do you all find it acceptable to buy a BC/FC ticket for yourself and let another familiy member albeit wife, child or parent sit at EC?

Runaway Maid

Hi Everyone! I would appreciate if anyone who has seen my maid to contact Haizan Choo & Co. Advocates and Solicitors at 0377250058.

She is a 33 year old Filipina. Her name is Maricel Toledo. Around 5 feet tall and 56kgs. She ran away from my sisters house in PJ at 7.40am when everyone was at work. Fortunately she did not steal anything and returned the keys in through the mailbox. We suspect that she met a man who persuaded her to leave as she was treated very well at my home and did not contact her agency, the Philippines Embassy or her family. She has three very young kids and her husband died earlier this year.

I appreciate if anyone saw her, if they could let me know as I pity her three kids as their caretaker in Philippines is very sick and may not have long to live.

I have attached her picture here:-

Pls recommend Carpenter and Metalworks

Hi everyone. I just bought a small SOHO and am planning some renovation by January next year. I am looking for a reasonably priced carpenter who is also familiar with metal works. I need a carpenter to make the staircase treads wider and create specially designed storage underneath the stairs. I also need him to be familiar with metalworks to create a banister.

Anyone with good contacts at reasonable price please let me know.

I want to do something like below:

http://www.houzz.com/photos/2919768/Manhat...taircase-austin

Thanks

I am planning to change the windows in my condo from two leaves to a single rotating window? Anyone know where I can buy a rotating window? This type of window can be turned 180 degrees to allow for easy cleaning.

I just found out what its called: A pivot window. Here is a picture and video link:

http://www.archiexpo.com/prod/mura/wooden-...030-127113.html

Anybody know a supplier? I want to get 3-4 of them

If a tour, generally how much would it cost and any recommendations on honest reliable and affordable agents?
