Petition for AFAMY 2014

This is the link of what I found in the web.

http://www.change.org/petitions/sozo-afamy-2014

Below are some of the insight on why AFAMY 2014 will not happen unless there is a change in culture.

I will not put in the name of who comment it. There will be people who already now the person commenting below.

Ist person:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As an Event Consultant myself, this petition justify NOTHING & doesn't lead to anything.
Yes we know there are high demand of ACG fans in Malaysia, but that means NOTHING to us if the targeted audience have no spending power (mostly students).
The majority of Malaysia's ACG event goers are just not willing nor able to pay the premium fee for high-quality contents (e.g $50 entree+$300 Stage/Concert), so why demand a high standard event?
It's like everyone want a Supercar but can't afford to buy.
So stop complaining, what you can do in your own capacity is to come together with like-minded people, plan your own event & make it happen!
Less talking, more doing!
Dont' wait for others to supply your demand when you cant afford the supply itself.

2nd Person

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Main issue at the end of the day is the state of the ACG culture in Malaysia which from a business POV isnt very encouraging. Rampant piracy of merchandise notwithstanding, the casual acceptance of them at Comic Fiesta does not sit very well with companies that design and sell genuine stuff.

Singapore will always be the main stage because for one its where it all started. But it's also because SG fans for the most part are more willing to pay top dollar for the real stuff, as well as to folk out premium sums to watch performances from Japanese groups. These groups are also businesses, they sure as hell ain't the President Star Charity. You want them, pay for them, FULL STOP.

Indonesia for the most part is also a good place to host this event, mainly because the average ACG fan over there are well-off and are also willing to pay for their money's worth. Like i said before, SOZO is a business, not a charity.

3rd person

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Problem here is that no matter whether they have the money or not, it's all about whether the package is worth buying or not. Some ppl got not much cash but wanna buy it for the sake of being there while some got big cash but sees it as a "not worth my money" & move his/her spending on something that's more valuable. It's all about preferences really.

More over is why Sozo chose Indonesia more over Malaysia? There should be a reason why he chose there (other than their home turf, Singapore). Is it due to financial state, the larger number of ACG followers (higher sales of tickets), bigger halls with better facilities than here or something bad happened 2 years ago at PWTC & KLCC's rentals are too expensive for them? It could be anything & I think a petition won't do any justice.

Is what the above said true.

Please give your comment whether you are for or against the petition.

My analysis is below:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I just happen to talk with one of the vendor selling anime goods called ACS Comics at Expo, Singapore today.

What they had told me is not a really good news for the Malaysian ACG Fans.

In AFAMY12, many of the Malaysian fans are not willing to buy the good which they said are pricey. Instead, majority of them buy bootlegs products from "VBG Network" and other vendor selling bootleg product as it is cheaper.

Not only that, a lot of vendor for AFAMY12, still owe the organizer money until now.

So their are 2 things here.

The first is the culture of buying bootleg products by the Malaysian.

This made the companies in Japan not willing to invest their money in AFAMY. Instead, majority of them are willing to invest in AFA and AFAID. This is the second reason.

Ultraman manga get banned!

Comic ‘Ultraman the Ultra Power’ banned by Home Ministry, superhero called ‘Allah’

MARCH 06, 2014

The Home Ministry has banned the publication of the latest Bahasa Malaysia title of the popular Japanese television/manga superhero comic, 'Ultraman the Ultra Power.'

While the Home Ministry has yet to give an official explanation for the ban, it is believed that the comic may have been caught up in the wake of the 'Allah' issue.

A Twitter user has uploaded what is said to be a page from the comic, in which Ultraman is referred to as Allah.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

The possibly offending line on the page reads in Bahasa Malaysa: "Beliau dianggap sebagai, dan dihormati sebagai, 'Allah' atau Elder semua wira Ultra." English translation: He is considered, and respected, as Allah or the Elder to all Ultra heroes.

A gazette was issued on February 18 banning the comic published by Resign Publications and printed by Network Printers.

That Ministry has yet to explain what aspect of the comic prompted this ban of a worldwide popular Japanese superhero who fights 'kaiju' -- monsters -- other than the standard vague reference to contents that are detrimental to public order.

But it looks like it is part of the contentious claims over the exclusivity or otherwise of the word to Muslims and Christians on both sides of the South China Sea, and its possible use in Catholic prayers and publications.

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysi...ome-ministry-is

Incest novels raise eyebrows in Japan

Incest novels raise eyebrows in Japan

TOKYO, Sept 16 — Novels with incest themes are becoming popular in Japan, Japan Today’s news website reported today.

These novels are popularly known as “light novels”, and usually stretch no longer than 200 pages. They are also often serialised, and target mostly middle and high school students.

One of the more popular light novel series is My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute, which chronicles the life of a high school student who finds out his younger sister has an obsession with anime and incest-themed adult computer games.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Testament to the popularity of this series is the planned release in October of 12 Little Sister novels, added the report. Some of these include My Little Sister Who Is Popular With Girls and Me Who Suffers (Volume 5), My Little Sister is Mad Because My Girlfriend Came Onto Me, I Know You’re My Brother but as Long as There’s Love It Doesn’t Matter, Right? (Volume 7) and Little Sister Complex (Volume 3).

The popularity of incest-themed light novels has spawned adaptations into video games, manga and anime series.

Recently, an anime adaptation of Hajime Taguchi’s light novel titled My Little Sister is Among Them! premiered in Japan through video streaming service Crunchyroll on July 6. A home video release is planned for launch in 2013.

The trend has drawn the attention of the Japanese authorities, who have taken continual measures to crack down on publications and material they consider unsuitable for youths in the country.

In 2011, the Tokyo Youth Health Development Council imposed restrictions on the number of publications it deemed “excessively disrupting of social order”.

It used the Tokyo Youth Healthy Development Ordinance, a law passed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly in 1964 to promote the healthy development of youths under the age of 18 by restricting their access to published material that was considered harmful.

This followed an earlier announcement by manga comics creator Masahiro Itosugi in April 2011 on ending the printing of volumes 1 and 3 in her Aki Sora manga series.

Itsosugi cited the story’s depiction of incest as the main reason for this. — AFP/Relaxnews

http://themalaysianinsider.com/books/artic...brows-in-japan/

Does this means that this book is going to get ban together with the anime as well?

Copyright Law Changes Would Affect Cosplay

Artist K. Hachiya: Copyright Law Changes Would Affect Cosplay

Media artist Kazuhiko Hachiya warned on Monday that if Japan joins the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), the resulting changes in the Copyright Law of Japan would affect cosplay, among other derivative works (works based on other works). Hachiya spoke at a Nico Nico Live seminar on "How Would TPP Change the Net and Copyrights? An In-Depth Examination: From Extending Copyright Terms to Changing the Law to Allow Unilateral Enforcement and Statutory Damages."

The Office of the United States Trade Representative describes the TPP as "an Asia-Pacific regional trade agreement currently being negotiated among the United States and eight other partners" (Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam). The agreement aims to make copyright laws uniform across all the signatory countries. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will be attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Hawaii this weekend, and he is expected to announced on Thursday whether Japan will join the TPP talks.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Hachiya's comments came after Kensaku Fukui, a lawyer and a Nihon University professor, wrote an essay on TPP's potential effects last month. Under the current law, the police and prosecutors cannot act against copyright infringement unless the copyright holders themselves file a formal complaint. Fukui asserted that under TPP, such violations will no longer require a complaint for prosecution. The proposed changes under TPP would also allow statutory damages to be levied against defendants.

At the Monday seminar (during which Fukui also spoke), Hachiya said that he fears that the police would be given the discretion on what to prosecute, particularly on "erotic" material. He further asserted that even cosplay outfits can been prosecuted if the police decides that they are not allowed.

Critics of the TPP assert that the part of Japanese culture developed through parody, dōjinshi works, and similar derivative works would be harmed. Negima and Love Hina manga creator Akamatsu further argued that the changes "would destroy derivative dōjinshi." He added, "And as a result, the power of the entire manga industry would also diminish."

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-...-affect-cosplay

Tokyo: We'll Ban Manga & Anime To Stop Sexism!

Tokyo’s Ishihara-led government is proposing yet more onerous censorship of manga and anime, this time on the grounds that they are sexist and violate the human rights of the groups (i.e. women and children) being depicted.

From one of the Tokyo government’s latest policy documents, outlining their plans for enforcing a “gender equality” regime on the people of Tokyo:

QUOTE

[...]

However, much media information is based on sexual stereotypes and frequently depicts sexual violence towards women and children, and this is one of the prime impediments to gender equality.

According to cabinet surveys, 80% of people now think there are problems with depictions of sex and violence on TV and the Internet.

Freedom of expression should be respected, but it is also necessary to adequately respect the human rights of the people being depicted to not be the subject of unpleasant sexual or violent expression in the public media.

Tokyo recently revised its ordinance for the healthy development of youth, and also established Tokyo’s duty to allow the healthy development of young people by restrictions on their Internet environment and the eradication of child pornography.

[...]

Our policy direction:

It is necessary to demand media undertake to voluntarily censor themselves with regard to depictions of sex and violence.

Tokyo must ensure publishers and advertisers do not promote sexual discrimination.

All media must thoroughly uphold moral restrictions [on their publications].

Translated source:

*link removed*

Original source:

http://www.seikatubunka.metro.tokyo.jp/ind...n1019mokuji.htm

Anime Seiyuu.

Should anime seiyuu forever be virgin and have no boyfriend at all??

Here is some quote which I found from sankaku who demand that there is a law to prevent seiyuu from marrying or have boyfriend.

QUOTE

Female seiyuu are 2.5D, they are angels.

So naturally they must be virgins, and it is out of the question for them to have anything to do with men.

It’s a given that female seiyuu be virgins.

Female seiyuu have to be treated as holy ground.

They mustn’t date or marry.

Ones like that must quit being seiyuu!

The law ought to ban female seiyuu from marriage or dating.

[...]

We need a licensing system for seiyuu.

Of course, being a virgin would be a requirement.

Compulsory virginity inspections of all female seiyuu should be mandated by law. Only those with virginity certificates can be allowed to be voice actresses.

Those who wish to date or marry ought to submit notice of their intent, be stripped of their license and then allowed to.

Those who date or marry men without permission need to be punished by the law.

Countermeasures like this are a given.

[...]

Elizabeth I said she was married to her kingdom and subjects, and resolved to live as an absolute monarch and organ of the state.

Female seiyuu must also resolve that “I am married to my fans,” and so devote their entire lives to all their fans as their idol.

If you cannot undertake this, you cannot become a seiyuu.

[...]

I think most of you will agree with my proposal.

LINK REMOVED

What's your opinion on this issues??

Japanese anime deemed dangerous for children’s viewing
September 27, 2010

Figurines featuring Japanese anime characters are displayed at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2009 in Tokyo on March 20, 2009. — Reuters pic
KOTA BARU, Sept 27 — Japanese anime is among DVDs identified as dangerous as they contain negative elements which can corrupt the minds of Malaysian children, said Film Censorship Board chairman Datuk Mohd Hussain Shafie.

He said many people were not aware of the effects because they did not know the contents of such DVDs, and thought of the Japanese anime as another children’s cartoon creation.

“We have banned a lot of Japanese anime although they are animation and said to be suitable for children, but they are actually more appropriate for adults.

“Some of the anime feature scantily-clad women and scenes which are not good for children,” he told reporters after a dialogue with the secretary of the Kelantan branch of the Film Censorship Control and Enforcement Division here today.

The session was the first held by the board in the state, which was also attended by representatives from the Kelantan Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Office, several film producers, distributors as well as DVD and VCD sellers.

Without mentioning the number of anime which had been banned, Mohd Hussain expressed concern over the matter and said the board had to prohibit those that could not be edited and those that were too risky for children.

“If the anime cannot be edited, then we will ban the episode or the whole series from being aired.”

He said it was best for parents to screen the contents of the animation before allowing their children to view them. — Bernama

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysi...ldrens-viewing/

Black Eyed Peas’ Arthur’s Day concert.

Black Eyed Peas’ Arthur’s Day concert for non-Muslims only

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Malaysia has allowed hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas to play at Arthur's Day in Sunway Lagoon on Sept 25 — one of four official global spots celebrating Guinness Stout's 250th anniversary — but only for non-Muslims.

The Information, Communication and Culture Ministry had put in this condition, apart from telling the brewery not to put any logos or sell the bitter-sweet brew at the concert which also features local act Reshmonu, several bands and deejays.

It is learnt that music concert rules disallow breweries or alcoholic drinks makers from sponsoring such events but the ministry relented as the concert is expected to boost the tourism industry affected by the recession and the A(H1N1) flu outbreak.

A sentence in the local Arthur's Day website — www.arthursday.com.my — states the event is only for non-Muslims aged 18 and above. The concert at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach costs RM103 an entry.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Kuala Lumpur is the Asia-Pacific venue for Arthur's Day, celebrating founder Arthur Guinness who opened the brewery in Dublin in 1759 with a 9,000-year lease and is now one of the world's most recognisable brands. Malaysia, which prides itself for being a Muslim nation, is one of the top 10 Guinness consuming countries in the world with the bitter available everywhere.

Apart from the Kuala Lumpur concert, Guinness is organising concerts in hometown Dublin and London apart from events in Australia, Canada, Indonesia and the United States.

The restrictions on Muslims comes on the back of the suspended caning for a Muslim mother-of-two caught drinking beer, PAS protests against beer sales at convenience outlets in Selangor and the Michael Learns To Rock concert in Genting Highlands on Sept 5 which falls during the current Ramadan fasting month.

Both PAS and Umno, the dominant party in the ruling Barisan Nasional federal government, have been at pains to flash their Islamic credentials for the crucial Malay vote.

Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim last month came under attack for proposing an Internet filter ostensibly to cut out cyberspace pornography although critics said it was to police online dissent.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak stopped the tender for the Internet filter which authorities said was actually a survey to gauge a feasibility for such a filter. Najib also criticised a syariah court ruling to cane Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno for drinking beer, urging her to appeal against the sentence.

The ruling to shut out Muslims from the Black Eyed Peas concert is strange as they last performed to an unrestricted audience in Malaysia in late 2007. The Black-Eyed Peas is riding high in the charts with their “Boom Boom Pow” single from their latest album “The E.N.D” which stands for The Energy Never Dies.

Malaysia has played host to several international acts over the years but pop sensation Beyonce Knowles shelved her Malaysian concert also in late 2007 and went to perform in Indonesia after pressure to cover up and tone down what was seen as a sexually-provocative performance.

However, singer Gwen Stefani dressed modestly during her concert in 2007 while organisers for the ***** Cat Dolls concert in Sunway Lagoon were fined for their sexy performance in 2006.

Guinness has organised a global celebration for Arthur's Day which starts in Dublin at 1759 GMT on Sept 24 (1.59am Malaysian time, Sept 25) with glasses being raised to Arthur Guinness in over 150 countries.

According to its www.g250years.com celebration website, there will be spectacular events in major cities like New York to intimate affairs at bars or pubs.

In Canada, there will be a string of black carpet VIP parties from Vancouver, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics, through to Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax.

Australians can party at each major state capital city in what it termed are iconic Guinness venues while in Indonesia, there will be a bus safari travelling through 10 of its key cities from October.

http://www.themalaysianinsider.com.my/inde...on-muslims-only

So only non-muslim can go to this concert in Malaysia.
