Comic ‘Ultraman the Ultra Power’ banned by Home Ministry, superhero called ‘Allah’

MARCH 06, 2014

The Home Ministry has banned the publication of the latest Bahasa Malaysia title of the popular Japanese television/manga superhero comic, 'Ultraman the Ultra Power.'

While the Home Ministry has yet to give an official explanation for the ban, it is believed that the comic may have been caught up in the wake of the 'Allah' issue.

A Twitter user has uploaded what is said to be a page from the comic, in which Ultraman is referred to as Allah.

Incest novels raise eyebrows in Japan

TOKYO, Sept 16 — Novels with incest themes are becoming popular in Japan, Japan Today’s news website reported today.

These novels are popularly known as “light novels”, and usually stretch no longer than 200 pages. They are also often serialised, and target mostly middle and high school students.

One of the more popular light novel series is My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute, which chronicles the life of a high school student who finds out his younger sister has an obsession with anime and incest-themed adult computer games.

Here is the plot:

Hana, a nineteen-year-old college student, falls in love with a man only for him to reveal his secret; he is a Wolf Man. Eventually the couple bear two children together; a son and daughter they name Ame and Yuki who both inherit the ability to transform into wolves from their father. When the man Hana fell in love with suddenly dies, she makes the decision to move to a rural town isolated from society to continue raising the children in protection. But as the children grow up, they will have to make a choice: whether to live as a human or a wolf.

Artist K. Hachiya: Copyright Law Changes Would Affect Cosplay

Media artist Kazuhiko Hachiya warned on Monday that if Japan joins the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), the resulting changes in the Copyright Law of Japan would affect cosplay, among other derivative works (works based on other works). Hachiya spoke at a Nico Nico Live seminar on "How Would TPP Change the Net and Copyrights? An In-Depth Examination: From Extending Copyright Terms to Changing the Law to Allow Unilateral Enforcement and Statutory Damages."

The Office of the United States Trade Representative describes the TPP as "an Asia-Pacific regional trade agreement currently being negotiated among the United States and eight other partners" (Australia, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam). The agreement aims to make copyright laws uniform across all the signatory countries. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will be attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Hawaii this weekend, and he is expected to announced on Thursday whether Japan will join the TPP talks.

Tokyo: We'll Ban Manga & Anime To Stop Sexism!

Tokyo’s Ishihara-led government is proposing yet more onerous censorship of manga and anime, this time on the grounds that they are sexist and violate the human rights of the groups (i.e. women and children) being depicted.

From one of the Tokyo government’s latest policy documents, outlining their plans for enforcing a “gender equality” regime on the people of Tokyo:

According to cabinet surveys, 80% of people now think there are problems with depictions of sex and violence on TV and the Internet.

Anime Seiyuu.

Should anime seiyuu forever be virgin and have no boyfriend at all??

Here is some quote which I found from sankaku who demand that there is a law to prevent seiyuu from marrying or have boyfriend.

KOTA BARU, Sept 27 — Japanese anime is among DVDs identified as dangerous as they contain negative elements which can corrupt the minds of Malaysian children, said Film Censorship Board chairman Datuk Mohd Hussain Shafie.

He said many people were not aware of the effects because they did not know the contents of such DVDs, and thought of the Japanese anime as another children’s cartoon creation.

“We have banned a lot of Japanese anime although they are animation and said to be suitable for children, but they are actually more appropriate for adults.

“Some of the anime feature scantily-clad women and scenes which are not good for children,” he told reporters after a dialogue with the secretary of the Kelantan branch of the Film Censorship Control and Enforcement Division here today.

The session was the first held by the board in the state, which was also attended by representatives from the Kelantan Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Office, several film producers, distributors as well as DVD and VCD sellers.

Without mentioning the number of anime which had been banned, Mohd Hussain expressed concern over the matter and said the board had to prohibit those that could not be edited and those that were too risky for children.

“If the anime cannot be edited, then we will ban the episode or the whole series from being aired.”

He said it was best for parents to screen the contents of the animation before allowing their children to view them. — Bernama

Black Eyed Peas’ Arthur’s Day concert for non-Muslims only

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Malaysia has allowed hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas to play at Arthur's Day in Sunway Lagoon on Sept 25 — one of four official global spots celebrating Guinness Stout's 250th anniversary — but only for non-Muslims.

The Information, Communication and Culture Ministry had put in this condition, apart from telling the brewery not to put any logos or sell the bitter-sweet brew at the concert which also features local act Reshmonu, several bands and deejays.

It is learnt that music concert rules disallow breweries or alcoholic drinks makers from sponsoring such events but the ministry relented as the concert is expected to boost the tourism industry affected by the recession and the A(H1N1) flu outbreak.

A sentence in the local Arthur's Day website — www.arthursday.com.my — states the event is only for non-Muslims aged 18 and above. The concert at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach costs RM103 an entry.

Kuala Lumpur is the Asia-Pacific venue for Arthur's Day, celebrating founder Arthur Guinness who opened the brewery in Dublin in 1759 with a 9,000-year lease and is now one of the world's most recognisable brands.
