Samyang Cheese noodles + EVOO = Heaven!

Purely out of curiosity i added a few drizzles of EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) over the samyang cheese noodles and guess what, it turned out like a match made in heaven. The EVOO is simply phenomenal, it doesn't just serve as a garnish but totally elevates everything to a whole new level. It coats the noodles with a layer of richness that gives extra smooth mouthfeel but not greasy or oily, the fruity and grassy notes of EVOO blend so well with the samyang hot sauce and cheese powder. It just makes you wanna lick off your bowl squeaky clean!

Here's what i did, after i cooked the noodles and drained ALL the water, i drizzled like 30ml of EVOO over the noodles, then tossed in the hot sauce and cheese powder. I tried Bertolli and Colavita EVOO and both were good. Though i slightly prefer Colavita because it has a profound fruity note.

If you happen to have a bottle of EVOO sitting in the pantry please don't hesitate to give it a try. From now on, i won't eat samyang noodles without EVOO in it, mark my words!

Nothing more easier than Adabi + Cintan

No-fry no-oil quick and easy instant noodle

The motive behind creating this recipe is of course for the ease of convenience just as quick as you would be cooking instant noodle but much healthier, cheaper, and you have endless choice of flavors. Minimal cooking process is needed, if possible. Here are what you'll need:

1) Cintan non-fried broad noodle, 2 noodle cakes about 110g

2) 1 packet of Adabi perencah mee goreng 60g

3) enough water for boiling noodles

That's it. Follow the package instruction and boil the noodles for 3 minutes. Discard the water but keep a few spoonfuls for easier mixing. Then, add in the Adabi paste, mix well and serve. Yes, you read it right, just mix it in without having to fry or saute the paste. The paste is already cooked.

You can definitely be creative to garnish the noodles as you like with fried shallots, scallions, cilantro, sunny-side up, meat floss, tuna, cheese or even Furikake (Japanese rice topping). Or better yet, you can also add fishcake, sausage, meatballs, veggies while boiling the noodles.

This recipe is good for 2 servings but if you are super hungry you can also finish all the noodles like i did. It's not really that much, if you can finish up 2 packets of samyang hot chicken noodles in one sitting then it should be no problem. Flavor-wise, as i'm a big fan of samyang hot noodles i find this easy recipe not only a lifesaver but also the taste is a real deal. Yes it obviously tastes like mee goreng but not the same as mamak style mee goreng with a hint of curry, nor the one sold at roadside overly seasoned with sweet soysauce and oil. The noodle taste and texture remind me of chili pan mee more if you asked me, it has a well balanced mild spiciness of sambal and sweetness from soysauce. If you have tried Adabi paste with yellow noodles before then you may like this non-fried noodles version.

Fancy trying out with other easily prepared mixing sauce, why not? I'm also considering Adabi mee bandung paste, beef soup paste, masak merah paste, green curry, red curry, tomyum, carbonara, korean hot sauce with parmesan cheese, kunyit curry paste by One fine shop, Maggi's black pepper mix, fajita with tomato paste, Colman's beef stroganoff and so much more. If memory serves me right i think Adabi has instant noodles range with flavors of bihun goreng, mee goreng, mee bandung etc. Not sure if the paste used in this recipe essentially the same with the instant noodle seasoning paste but i'll just stick to this non-fried noodles anyway.

Last but not least, did i mention this recipe costs less than rm3 to fill your tummy? This recipe is definitely a keeper. Good luck!

👆Look at that goodness of Adabi generously coating the boiled noodles and fishballs.

👆Another flavor that i've tried was Adabi mee bandung paste. It contains dried shrimps so i expected it to taste something like if not similar to the penang prawn mee. It turned out that i was almost right, it's brimming with prawn flavor except that this one has a thicker consistency but surely, it's mee bandung afterall. I whipped out a can of good ol' spicy tuna and called it a day. Will i make this again? Of course, without a second thought.

To prepare this, boil 2 noodle cakes in 1000ml of hot water. When the noodles are 70% done, discard the water but leave about half behind. Put it back on the fire and add 2 packets of Adabi mee bandung paste 40g and stir well. When the noodles are soft or the soup starts to thicken it is ready to serve.

👆Today i used the Adabi beef soup paste. It was aromatic and peppery just like the one commonly served in Malay restaurants except that no beef and veggies were used in my first trial. If you have beef slices or meatballs, onion, carrot and celery handy, please do not hesitate to dump all those in, at least that's what the paste was intended for. These veggies combo or so called the mirepoix really packs a punch to the flavor and bumps up your soup by a few extra notches.

Start off by boiling 2 noodle cakes in 1000ml of hot water, though i would suggest using lesser water like 800-900ml for a denser soup. Empty the content of one packet of Adabi beef soup paste 40g and cook until the noodles are soft. If you plan to add extra ingredients mentioned earlier, you may do so before adding the noodles and paste, as the meat and veggies take longer time to cook.

👆If you've ever tried Koka black pepper fried noodles then the taste of this Maggi's black pepper mix is somewhere close. But i must warn you this premix has fairly good amount of cracked peppercorns so the numbing taste can be overpowering, i think it needs something to sweeten up like sweet soy sauce or honey and some chopped onions as suggested would be great. Otherwise not bad, but i'll stick to Koka black pepper if my craving strikes.

First boil and drain 2 noodle cakes, then in another saucepan prepare the sauce by mixing 150-200ml of water or preferably stock with one packet of Maggi's black pepper mix. Heat up and stir slowly until the sauce thickens, season with a drizzle of sweet soy sauce or honey. Add in the drained noodles, mix well and serve.

High-end water filters, are those necessary?

With all the promo and sales nowadays, it's not unlikely every household having a basic filtration system. Some even go for a better filter unit with flexible payment scheme.

I've been wondering, are those expensive water filters all that necessary? Because imo no matter how best it is, it's still tap water. Can it really be better than natural spring/underground water since i'm only drinking mineral water?

Any discount for "no motor driving license" saman?

Hi all, my relative just got a summon for the offense of no motor driving license. Just sms and checked pdrm online it says rm300. But here's something conflicting:

The traffic officer who issued the summon asked my relative to settle immediately for cheaper price. I also understand the more you delay the more you pay. So i assumed if i pay early the compound might be lower than rm300.

But when i went to police station and asked the "officer" who didn't wear uniform at the visitor's pass guard house, he said the price for this summon is fixed at rm300 and no discount. However he offered that he can "help" if i need to get discount. I didn't take his offer and i will go to other police station to settle the summon tommorow.

Just want to ask if anyone here had the same kind of summon and any luck for getting discount? Is the principle of "the more you delay, the more you pay" still eligible for this summon (no motor driving license)?

Thank you very much.

99 speedmart imported potato chips

For you potato chips fans out there here comes good news. I recently bought a packet of imported potato chips from 99 speedmart and i think it's kinda nice. Price wise a lot cheaper than those high-end potato chips sold at cold storage or jaya grocer, think about half the price but double in quantity. For almost rm4 a packet you get 100g of chips. Taste wise, it's pretty much like kettle style chips with skin-on and thick cut. Unlike mister potato chips which are thin and crispy, these chips are crunchy and you can actually see the earthy unpeeled skin.

The only drawback is that 99 speedmart only sells a single flavor, salt & vinegar. For those of you who dislike tangy stuffs, this might be a real turn off. I do hope 99 can carry more flavors as i noticed there are tons of flavors displayed on the manufacturer's website. Btw it's a Finnish brand, so expect to finish fast in one go.

Just sharing ok, happy munching!

Sometimes i use milk powder but never use creamer.

Hong Kong style milk tea always starts with strong tea base, they blend several types of black tea such as ceylon, assam, kenya, pu erh and tea dust. Their brewing method quite similar with ours.

If you aren't that reticent why don't you share your favorite blends for milk tea? The screen isn't totally black like when it's turned off, it has very dimmed light emitted from the screen, like when it's in idle.

My monitor is Asus pg221 a 2007 model. It is supposed to have on screen display menu but now nothing. As far as i know if it is graphic card issue it wouldn't even pass the bios. Is it true?

I don't have extra cable or monitor to test. Any idea what happened to my monitor? Thanks a lot.

How to deal with ignorant dog owner?

Hi, first of all i need to say that i have nothing against dogs. Im staying at usj13 where neighbors keeping dogs are very common. But there is one particular neighbor who has gone off limits. This neighbor's house is located at usj9 which is just opposite usj13. The owner has a german shepherd and almost every day it barks incessantly from 5pm to 9pm, it begins to bark as soon as the owner comes back from work.

This is not just an ordinary nuisance barking like your dog next door. It barks so loud that its noise can be heard from 3 usj areas. How can the quality of life not deteriorate, all of us need a peaceful rest in the evening but getting bothered by such incessant barking? I have talked to the owner nicely and even suggested him to use a dog muzzle but until now nothing has changed. Ignorant owner loves his dog more than respecting other neighbors. At last i made a complaint to MPSJ and all they did was just issued a warning letter to ask the owner to get a dog license. Now the owner got the license and his dog continues its barking routine like ever before.

What should we do now? Do we have to put up with this every day? Should i make a police report? To whom should i resort to? Please help, thanks.

Your favorite coffee with milk recipe?

I have tried experimenting with different types of coffee blend whether it is freshly ground, instant or 3 in 1, I find this particular blend to be my favorite. It is creamy, it uses ground coffee yet no filtering is required, it has that complicated yet satisfying taste and the best thing is it doesn't cost you a fortune.

Tupai Special coffee powder 200g - you can get this for only RM4 at KK store. The product uses 3 types of coffee: Liberica, Arabica and Robusta. This is what gives the coffee its body. Gourmet coffee alone is not enough, you need strong and dark coffee since milk will be added. This coffee powder is so fine that can be considered microground, it passes literally all filter so no filtering is required. Just let it sit for a while to sink to the bottom.

Super microground black coffee (I use Colombian) 20x2g - bought this at 99 speedmart for RM8. It has that nice fruity, sour and signature light roasted taste. It complements well with strong coffee and adds another layer of flavor to your coffee.

First, empty a sachet of 2g Super microground black coffee together with 2-3 teaspoons of Tupai Special coffee powder into a glass. Pour in 150ml hot water and brew for 4 minutes. While the brew is still hot, add 2 teaspoons of raw cane sugar according to your taste. Without filtering finally add 1 packet 200ml of your favorite full cream milk and stir. Let the fine powder sinks to bottom before served. This recipe makes 350ml of milk coffee.

What about your favorite milk coffee recipe? Let's share.

Has anyone tried cold brew coffee?

If anyone of you may ask, cold brew means brewing your ground coffee using room temperature water for 12-24 hours then the filtered coffee can be mixed with sugar or milk. I tried already it really has more intense flavor, nutty and roasted aftertaste. There are many benefits using cold brew that you can search online but the main goodness is that the coffee is less acidic and absent of heat means less caffeine.

Cold brew is different from iced coffee because iced coffee uses hot brew coffee then diluted with ice cubes. Cold brew coffee can be mixed with ice and does not affect the flavor. Has anyone tried before? Let's share your experience.
