In this context (personal loan with Norminal Annual Rate 4.99% and Effective Annual Rate 8.67%),  I am confused when do we need to refer EAR? to against what? Is it to compare the return of investment with the loaned amount dumped into it? e.g. dumped the Personal Loan 300k into stocks, and compare the return of investment with same term (10yr), says if forecasted return &amp;gt; 8.67%, then it is worthwhile)? Tq.</description>
