Car Tint. Darker the better heat reject? Or TSER?

I know there is already a car tint thread. But, the thread is about advice or recommendations for the different brands and prices. I would like to discuss more about the darkness of tint or visible light transmission here. If mod feels this is not the right place, please move.

Lets talk about the darkness of tint. We know many of the promoters have taken IRR previously as the indicator for heat rejection. Recent years, TSER (Total Solar Energy Rejected) is promoted as the ultimate indicator in heat rejection.

You can see some of the advertisements are saying that with the latest technology, dark tints does not mean better heat rejection. TSER is the indicator. Are these indicator ultimately right in determining the heat rejection? Will the darkness of tint still play a big factor? I think a lot of us are interested in this info as well.

I have been through up and down with this above car tint question. Even after spending considerable amount of money, I still do not have the answer right. I recently have even thought of replacing the tint again. But, before I even do that, I would like to get some advice here.

The tinting interest start as I was first exposed to Llumar economy series - Safety and security - SA50. Rated with VLT 52% and TSER 29%. I am getting very very good heat rejection. Almost no pain when the sunlight hit my skin even at noon. I got attracted to Llumar and immediately, I replaced my other car tint to Llumar SA50 as well. For your info, my SA50 seems to be darker and the VLT test conducted shows 39% only on all my side window.

After that, I got a new car that came with Toyota Premium Security and Solar Film with VLT 53% (sides) and 75% (front) and TSER 53% (sides) 52% (front). However, the heat rejection is no where near my two cars with SA50, which is low spec. Any TSER above 50% should be considered good. This is the start of my problem. I replaced the entire tint to Llumar Crystal 6 for the sides with VLT 57% and TSER 53%. The front was changed to Airblue with VLT 78% and TSER 43%. I though that Llumar TSER is more accurate and hence better.

However, the results after installation is almost the same. The SA50 which is lowly spec is still much better. I can assure you the difference is quite a margin. I am again considering re-tinting. But before I did again, I visited the Llumar HQ and was given the answer that darkness of tint is still a factor in heat rejection besides TSER. Is this really right??

From my current experience in comparing Llumar SA50, Crystal 6 and Toyota tint, the darkness of tint seems to play a big role in reducing the pain when sunlight hit our hand. TSER don't seems to give any indicator of heat rejection.

It would be good if fellow forummers can also contribute to the knowledge and experience so that future buyers will know what to look for. Lets compare the heat rejection, VLT and TSER between cars you own.

Seems very logical since they both have almost the same TSER and VLT.

2. Llumar SA50 is cooler than both Llumar Crystal 6 and Toyota Tint
SA50
VLT 52% (But, my SA50 seems darker according to Llumar HQ)
TSER 29%
IRR 69%

Crystal 6
VLT 57%
TSER 53%
IRR 90%

According to Llumar HQ, the reason for SA50 to be better than Crystal 6 is because SA50 is darker.

Kindly offer the above info if all of you have and lets see if darker tint is a real factor.

Disappointing Experience in Rakuten Malaysia SdnBh

On 31/3/2015, I received a Rakuten email with title "Here's 20% off to get your favourite products!"

The 20% discount voucher is shown below. The voucher is stated to end on 30 April 2015. The maximum discount limit is RM1200, which means we can purchase up to RM6000 items to claim the RM1200 discount.

I have in mind of few items and I have spent much time surveying around. It seems that the 20% voucher would be a good deal. Thus, when I tried to purchase 2 items valued around RM2200 today (29/4/2015), I was unable to activate the voucher. Subsequently I called Rakuten Sdn Bhd and was informed that the voucher has been discontinued 3 weeks ago!

I am definitely disappointed with this news since I have spent much time surveying before finally deciding to purchase. But, this unforeseen circumstances pops up the very last minute. I would think that Rakuten Sdn Bhd should have informed their customers 3 weeks ago (after the decision to terminate the voucher) so that their customers are aware. The problem is we were not informed of the termination of the voucher until we called them up.

Anyone face the same problem?

Despite the disappointment, I proceeded to purchase 1 item without the 20% discount with them because I still have some points left in my account. Hopefully, Rakuten will not repeat this again.

Panel Insurance

I notice that panel insurer will be easier and better for insurance claims (eg no need to top up for betterment for car less than 7 years)

For example, Toyota lists Etiqa, MSIG and Tokio Marine as their panel insurer.

My question is do we have to buy the above insurance from Toyota to enjoy the benefit? Can we buy directly from the insurer?

This is because Etiqa is giving 10% discount if we buy from their website. But, I do not want to lose the benefit of panel insurer.

Appreciate your advices.
