If you have, or plan on using the app, CamScanner, researchers over at Kaspersky Lab have discovered a trojan module within the popular PDF scanner app. The app, which lets you scan images and turn them into PDF documents, reportedly has over 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store.

The Trojan Dropper module found in the app is down to a 3rd-party advertisement library that was only recently introduced by CamScanner, and malware-infected versions are only limited to free versions of the app. The paid version of the app, as such, is still available on the Play Store, although we’d still recommend uninstalling the app to be safe.

QUOTE

“Kaspersky solutions detect this malicious component as Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Necro.n. We reported to Google company about our findings, and the app was promptly removed from the Google Play.”

– Kaspersky

This was discovered by researchers after users reported suspicious behaviour within the app, with the trojan allowing for perpetrators to use victims’ smartphones to view intrusive advertisements, or even to sign up for paid subscriptions.

According to Kaspersky, “The owners of the module can use an infected device to their benefit in any way they see fit, from showing the victim intrusive advertising to stealing money from their mobile account by charging paid subscriptions.”

The scary aspect of it all is that this is (or was) an app that had a pretty huge user base, with Google also regularly removing potentially dangerous apps from its official Play Store. But Kaspersky infers that the issue, as far as CamScanner is concerned, stems from the app developer’s “partnership with an unscrupulous advertiser”. The cybersecurity firm also reveals that a similar module was previously found in preinstalled malware on certain Chinese smartphones—something that everyone is constantly worried about.

With that in mind, it’s important to be very careful when downloading apps, even those that supposedly have a great rating on the Play Store. Do regular malware checks on your smartphone with anti-virus solutions, and always keep an eye out for irregular activity and/or suspicious behaviour when it comes to your apps.

Sos: Soyacincau

UPDATE (thanks to [@enduser]):

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE(enduser @ Sep 1 2019, 09:44 AM)

https://www.xda-developers.com/camscanner-a...ecting-malware/

CamScanner has issued the following
Dear CamScanner Android Users,

Our CamScanner Team has recently detected that the advertisement SDK provided by a third-party named AdHub, integrated in Android Version 5.11.7, has been reported for containing a malicious module that produces unauthorized advertising clicks.

Injection of any suspicious codes violates the CamScanner Security Policy! We will take immediate legal actions against Adhub! Fortunately, after rounds of security check, we have not found any evidence showing the module could cause any leak of document data.

We have removed all the ads SDKs not certified by Google Play and a new version would be released.
Maybank took my money

Hi everyone, so this is what happened 3 weeks ago...

I did an Instant Transfer to a RHB bank account using the Maybank app during midnight... At first, it showed "transaction unsuccessful", but the amount got deducted.

I called Maybank CS for the first time, the staff told me that it would take 4 working days for them to do the investigation. After 4 days, they didn't call back, and when I did, they said it will be credited to the beneficiary on Monday, but then no progress was made. After few days which was already a week later, I called again and then the staff said that the beneficiary should call RHB to manually credit the money to him, but RHB told the beneficiary that there was no record of that transfer at all. After another week, I called again and then they said that the money was already credited to the beneficiary's account, but then again, nothing was done. Earlier this week, I went to Maybank and asked about the issue, but then they were unhelpful and only told me to report to them via email which I did on the first week and the reply from them was totally useless. And then, I called for the last time and requested for reversal, the staff said that they will file a dispute and will contact me again today which they didn't, they just keep on dragging the issue further for just a small amount of money (at least for a bank), and now it's already been 3 weeks...

I called the Maybank CS for many times last month until my phone bills got more expensive than usual.

Does anyone here had experiences like this before? What should I do to get my money back? This is the first time that I experienced this so I really don't know what to do. Would appreciate if anyone here can advise... Thanks!

UPDATE: Money has already been credited to the beneficiary's account after the Maybank CS filed a dispute, and it took them 3 weeks to even file a dispute which they had been dragging the issue before that.

PS4 & Xbox 1S

Hey guys, thinking of returning to gaming after so long, my last console was the PS2...

But here's the thing...

I saw a recent promo from M4G store that's selling the Xbox 1S for RM 899 and PS4 is probably around RM 1k without promo (I guess?)

So my question for both consoles...

PS4 - Is it possible to get it at a similar price as the Xbox 1S promo price from M4G if I buy it from the game stalls in Lowyat Plaza or anywhere else? I know Lazada sells it for RM 945, but I have reasons not to spend so much for it cuz it's out of my budget

Xbox 1S - Is it possible to get a lower price than M4G's current promo of RM 899 in Lowyat Plaza or any other places?

And if I go for Xbox which is not really popular here, is there anything I should keep in mind of? I'm not a hardcore gamer, I'm not thinking of playing online (literally all of my friends are on PS4 but doesn't bother me), don't mind the exclusives cuz I'm more into 3rd party titles which will definitely be available for both sides.

Appreciate the help from sifus here. Thanks!

With the fierce competition of e wallets between services like Boost, Grabpay, TnG e wallet etc.

There are few other more which have been existing for quite a while but still haven't gained that much popularity yet and still striving for it, as listed below...

Vcash
Razer Pay
Kiplepay
Mcash

Which one would you be willing to give it a shot? For example, assuming that you're already using few e wallets like Boost, Favepay and Grabpay, and you wanna try out one more, which one would you go for?

And would also appreciate if those who have used or been using these listed e wallets can share some of your experiences and recommendations. Thanks!

Now there are still merchants that impose a minimum amount for card payments, some even set to RM 50 as minimum...

Wanna use debit card to pay for a meal also cannot...

Customer has the rights to pay by card, not everyone has so much cash in hand...

And then u get BNM telling people to make a report to the merchants by installing their shitty app, yet the procedure is complicated af, need to contact bank and shit

Ask them on FB for more details, manatau takde org layan

No wonder no one even bother to report, because the procedure is harder than just ignoring the whole issue

Apa lah ni BNM...central bank kononnya...

Moving thread to another suitable section

Hi admin/staff, can admin/staff help moving this thread below to the Finance section? Because it would be more suitable there instead of Mobile phones section.

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4548497

Also, is it possible if admin can open a dedicated section for e wallet and mobile payments? Because it can gather the community for discussion in that subject, and also contribute in adding more awareness to the community to adopt the cashless solution, or perhaps tagging the thread with the "e wallet" tag in Finance section if admin doesn't agree with opening a dedicated section.

Thanks!

Razer Pay...nice try

This Is Razer Pay: The Gaming Company’s Own Cashless Payment App

Razer now has its own cashless payment app in the form of Razer Pay. For starters, the app in its current form is actually a rebrand of the One2Pay app that was launched by MOL earlier this year.

Hence, many of its functions seems rather similar. Among them is capability to make payment via QR code as well as the ability to purchase reloads for telco prepaids and gaming-oriented virtual currencies including the company’s own zGold.

Also available for purchase through Razer Pay app is subscriptions for selected streaming services including iflix and Spotify alongside Astro’s NJOI Prepaid. Users are also able to transfer funds to other Razer Pay users.

The release of Razer Pay is not exactly surprising though as MOL Global has become a subsidiary of Razer through the acquisition process that the famed gaming company announced back in April. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Razer will push forward into this segment.

Meanwhile, the app is now readily available on both Google Play and Apple App Store.

https://www.lowyat.net/2018/165524/razer-pay-app-official/

-

Nice try MOL, One2pay tak laku so use Razer brand to attract people pulak?

TnG app is a failure before it even started

The long awaited TnG app was just launched yesterday, I'm pretty sure many had been anticipating this long awaited app for a long time and surely were excited when the news of the launch got out, but it turned out to be a huge flop and disappointment. With tons of 1 star ratings and with a total rating of only 2.0, this app is showing that it failed before it even started.

Here's why:

Registration isn't designed well
This is the part where it got me excited even though it required me to fill in bunch of personal info, it's totally fine cuz I'm pretty sure that service like this do require your personal info for probably some security purposes. But after everything was filled and almost done, it was time for them to send me the OTP code via SMS for confirmation. Guess what? It never came at all, until I kept trying to request for OTP until it showed "Daily limit reached", this means that I failed to even register for an account on my side (some were able to register successfully but this issue is still common for many users).
UPDATE: They fixed the OTP issue at least on my side, so I guess the bad ratings are kinda working, but some users are still having this problem.

Fund transfer is more like frustrate transfer
This was actually one of the best features of the app but they made it into a whole finicky and hassle process, there's something called PUD (Pick Up Device) which is some sort of device to let us transfer our balance from the app to the card itself which will be expanded to more places in the future with the first device currently being available only in CEC Bangsar. I do believe that such feature could've been implemented well if they went for NFC infra or using the serial number code behind the TnG card for transferring purpose between the app and card itself. People don't care if TnG is still using old technology, you already received tons of cash from the profit from millions of Malaysians using your card every day, you could've done better with all those budget but you didn't.

Can't TnG with TnG
Simple ranting here, we can't sync the app with the card directly. Again, it's all about NFC or the serial number code behind the card. If the latter can be used to make payments in stores, then why not synchronization? I believe TnG travelled here with time machine to launch their app to us.

Half baked while our anticipation for it is already fully baked for a long time
According to the review from other disappointed users, this app is half baked. No further explanation for this is needed cuz if it wasn't half baked, it wouldn't have tons of problems lurking in the app. I believe that they rushed for the public launch because their main competitor Wechat Pay is probably gonna have it's public launch as well in the near future, but seriously, I'm pretty sure their competitor will not have any issues in launching a flawless service for the locals here.

Instruction for payment is not clear at all and no assurance at all

QUOTE

Physical Payment via QR Code - Scan or show your QR code from Touch 'n Go App mobile application at the physical outlet , and payment is done!

Oh really? Is it that really simple? What kind of physical outlet? You sure we don't have to wait for another decade for your dedicated scanners to be available for us to make payment from the app? You sure we won't hear the usual "meshin ini tabuli pakei" or "system offline" anymore? There's not even an assurance whether if we can use it anywhere that supports TnG card payment or not.

Not calling for an ultimate boycott cuz yesterday was just the first launch of their app, but to those who tried the app and not satisfied with it, please use a bit of your precious time and give them a bad rating and feedback in the Play Store or App Store. Bad ratings will affect their app in the respective app stores, hopefully they will learn and get their asses up and improve the app ASAP.

Sekian!

Every WeChat user has their own WeChat Payment account. Users can acquire a balance by linking their WeChat account to their debit card, or by receiving money from other users. Users who link their credit card can only make payments to vendors, and cannot use this to top up WeChat balance. WeChat Pay can be used for digital payments, as well as payments from participating vendors. As of March 2016, WeChat Pay had over 300 million users. In China, users who have provided bank account information may use the app to pay bills, order goods and services, transfer money to other users, and pay in stores if the stores have WeChat payment option. Vetted third parties, known as "official accounts", offer these services by developing lightweight "apps within the app".
KFC Chizza is nothing but hype

[attachmentid=9362389]

First of all, the size is just a joke. I paid RM 7.90 for Ala Carte, I expected the size to match with the price, but turns out that it's way smaller than what I expected. I know some countries were worse, but this isn't any better either.

Secondly, the taste is just...so so. The meat is same old same old from KFC, and it's really just that. Does it taste similar to a pizza? Not at all. Just imagine that you're eating the usual KFC chicken fillet with cheese melted on top with some additional minor sourness from the pineapple slices and tomato pieces and that pizza sauce.

All in all, the concept was creative which I gotta admit, but the final product turns out to be nothing out of the ordinary. Hence, the pricing is just a cut in the throat with that puny size.

Rating: 4/10

Sekian.

Huashit P10 drop price liao

Huawei P10 Now Going for Only RM1,699 in Malaysia

Huawei’s flagship phone from earlier this year, the Huawei P10, has received a drastic price cut from various retailers. Originally retailing at RM2,499, the high-end phone is currently going for only RM1,699 in Malaysia.

We first spotted a rather good deal on the P10 from DirectD’s Facebook page: the retailer is offering the P10 for only RM1,899. Three different colours are available from DirectD, which include Blue, Gold, and Black.

Naturally, we looked at how much the P10 is currently going for on e-commerce sites too, and we found even better deals there. On Lazada, one seller is offering the P10 for only RM1,699 – that’s a whopping RM800 discount from the original asking price. Another retailer is also listing the P10 for slightly more at RM1,707.

We didn’t stop at just Lazada, of course. On Shopee, the P10 can be bought for RM1,709. Interestingly, the seller is also bundling a free case as well as a tempered glass screen protector.

For that kind of money, the P10 offers really, really good value for money. It has a capable dual-camera system, a fast Kirin 960 processor, as well as a generous 3,200mAh battery, especially for a 5.1-inch smartphone.

Needless to say, these are very good deals for the Huawei P10, and it’s worth noting that we were previously told the P10 will no longer be sold in Malaysia. In light of this, the device will likely not be restocked once it is sold out.

Sos

Cukur got best deal for Huashit liao, sape nak beli? Ayam sangat puas dgn I punya.
