The rest are slow moving items, and will only move when heavily discounted. Having similar pricing as the more modern Japanese models while carrying old-tech engines are some of the reason why Hicom Chevrolet seems unable to move its cars.

Thankfully, that will change very soon. As promised by the new company since last year, new models will be coming in to entice the market. Having spent a lot of money on rebranding exercise and recruiting new and better equipped 3S centres, the company is now poised to tackle the year with better and up-to-date models.

First in the line up will be the new Cruze. This is General Motor's latest global front-wheel-drive compact vehicle model, and General Motors (GM) claims it combines the charisma of an upscale mid-size sedan, best in segment craftmanship and the efficiency of a compact passenger car.

More of a C-segment fighter, the Cruze is the first 2009 model introduced in Australia, Europe, Korea and soon Asean. Malaysia will be the first Asean country to launch it, which is in end July.

Derived from GM's all-new Global Delta platform, the new body-frame integral (BFI) four-door car will be produced at GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co (GMDAT) in Gunsan, South Korea.

It will also be built in a new manufacturing plant in Norsom, China, Lordstown, Ohia, USA and CKD operations will commence in Russia, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Egypt and Venezuela.

The Global Delta architecture was designed and engineered in Germany and will be the foundation for models representing 10 brands sold in more than 150 countries around the world for the next five years.

According to Sanjeev Garg, the CEO for Hicom Chevrolet, the Cruze is better in many aspects compared to its competitors.

"We believe it will literally be the best compact car on the planet," he said.

The engine will be a 1.8L DOHC four-cylinder unit (GM's Family 1 engine, Generation 3, RPO = 2HO) with DCVCP (Double Continuous Variable Cam Phasing) that delivers 141PS at 6,000rpm and 176Nm of torque @ 3,800rpm

An all new-six-speed automatic transmission will be the first in its class here. The Hydra-Matic 6T40/6T45 will also be GM's first application of a 6-speed auto gearbox for a front-wheel drive compact car.

Apart from that, Cruze will come with a Vehicle Stability Enhancement System (VSES), ABS and Traction Control.

Large sized front and rear disc brakes are standard equipment, along with low-compressibility brake pads, giving shorter braking distance and better pedal feel.
MacPherson struts handle the front suspension while a sophisticated compound crank rear axle with optional Watts linkage keeps the rear grounded.

There are two steering options, the hydraulic or the electric but at the time of print, none can be determined yet for local spec.

The Cruze is expected to achieve a 5-star NCAP ratings in North America and Europe.

Price wise, the Cruze is expected to be around RM1,000 cheaper than the Honda Civic 1.8L, whic means it should hover around RM 113,000 plus.

CBT got wind of the specifications for the local Cruze and this is how it performs compared with the Civic 1.8L

Features Cruze 1.8L Civic 1.8L
Power 141PS @ 6,000rpm 140PS @ 6,300rpm
Torque 176Nm @ 3,800rpm 174Nm @ 4,300rpm
Transmission 6-speed auto 5-speed auto
Seats 8-way powered driver seat none
Steering with audio
control buttons Yes No
Sunglass holder Yes No
NCAP rating 5-star 4-star
Power-folding side
mirrors with indicators Yes No
Tiptronic Transmission Yes No
Winter/muddy roads
anti skid feature Yes No

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

VIA CBT

what do u guys think about this one...another option for c-segment...i like the front and the side profile...but abit boring at the back
