Muslim woman sues Abercrombie & Fitch

WASHINGTON (AFP): The United States Supreme Court appeared on Wednesday to be supportive of a Muslim woman who claimed she was denied a sales job with fashion retailers Abercrombie & Fitch as a teen because of her Islamic headscarf.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), a federal government agency, is suing Abercrombie on behalf of Ms Samantha Elauf, on the grounds she was discriminated against because of the company's dress code.

The clothing company is known for populating its stores with bare-chested male models and female staff in somewhat racy attire.

Its salespeople are required to conform to "Abercrombie style", defined as a "classic East Coast collegiate style".

The company does not allow employees to wear "caps" of any kind or the colour black, but scarves are not explicitly forbidden.

Any departure from the dress code is regarded as grounds for disciplinary action, including dismissal, on the basis that it can negatively impact the company's image, brand and sales.

But during a one-hour long hearing at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, several justices appeared to be troubled by the case.

Attorneys arguing Ms Elauf's case say she is protected by the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which bars anyone from being refused employment based on their religion, unless the employer cannot accommodate the person's religious beliefs without adversely affecting business.

PETALING JAYA: Seorang ahli farmasi yang berasal dari Malaysia, menghadapi pertuduhan 'merogol seorang wanita menggunakan jari' (digital rape) , ditangkap ketika cuba melarikan diri dari Australia, menurut Herald Sun.

Suspek, Kuang King Tan telah menempah tiket sehala selepas ditemubual oleh polis tetapi ditahan di Lapangan Terbang Melbourne dan kemudian mengaku bersalah atas kesalahan itu.

King Tan telah didakwa menyerang mangsa berusia 22 tahun apabila wanita itu sedang mengambil preskripsi dari Union Pharmacy di pusat bandar Melbourne.

King Tan menjemputnya ke pejabat dan meminta untuk melihat ruam di atas perut, belakang dan bahagian sulitnya.

Dia didakwa merogol selepas wanita perempuan melaporkan kejadian itu kepada doktor.

LDP Users, Take Note Of These Changes

A contra-flow lane will start at KM21 (Kelana Jaya-bound) on the LDP, opposite UOB and HSBC banks, after the IOI Mall) with the exit at KM18.

The contra-flow lane is only for light vehicles and Touch ‘n Go users, and will run on weekdays from 6.30am to 9.30am, excluding public holidays. Users should also keep the rightmost lane to enter the contra-flow lane.

Also, Plaza A Toll at the Petaling Jaya Toll Plaza in the opposite direction from Sunway will be closed to facilitate the contra flow.

If you’re coming from Sunway and headed to Puchong or KESAS, please use Plaza B during the contra-flow.

New York's hottest clubs open their doors

New York clubs are open to a new trend. Clubbing for children as young as six. The parties, held during the day, give kids a chance to experience dance and music.

The music's thumping, the dance floor's packed and the bar's bustling. Welcome to one of New York's hottest nightclubs and a new generation of clubbers six-year-olds. The VIP Room threw open its doors to children aged six to 12 to give them a taste of the nightclub, electronic music and dance scene in New York's uber trendy Meatpacking District.

Among those hitting the decks was eight-year-old DJ Alden. Kids swarmed onto the dance floor, bopping up and down to beats with proud mums shimmying alongside or snapping pictures.

"It was awesome!" says Alden, son of the organisers who jumped on the decks during the four-hour, Halloween-themed party. "The best thing was when I was in the DJ booth, DJing for everybody."

A dancer dressed as a robot with LED lights on his legs, arms, head and body, took to the podium to whip up the crowd. When he starts shooting dry ice from two white guns, they go wild.

The children scream with pleasure, reaching up their hands as the robot takes them through basic dance steps, getting them to feel the beat.

More than 300 people, including parents and younger siblings, attended the party organised by a husband and wife team whose company CirKiz opens top New York clubs to children once a month.

"I love it. My daughter's having a great time," says Laura Lampert, a legal secretary from Harlem dressed in a leopard print dress with cat ears, pointing out her child twirling to the side.

"It's a lot of fun. It's also safe for the kids. It's during the day, and they get to feel like grown-ups," she says.

KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of students forced open the Universiti Malaya gate near Bangsar here after a standoff of more than an hour with campus guards.

They had waited in the rain from 7.45pm for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, whom they had invited to address them at Dewan Tunku Canselor.

Anwar arrived with his wife, PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, and daughter Nurul Izzah, who is party vice-president, at 9.35pm, some 15 minutes after the crowd broke through the entrance from the city.

As Anwar and his family walked in, the students loudly chanted “Reformasi” and “Bangkit Mahasiswa”.

In front of the hall, he told the students to reject racism and bigotry, and to preserve the honour of the universities.

Anwar applauded the spirit of the students present, and said that youths usually spoke for the conscience of the people.

Earlier, several student leaders spoke from atop a four-wheel-drive vehicle, urging the crowd to break down the gate.

One speaker, condemning the university, said: “You call yourself the number one university in the country but you deny Anwar entry.

“Are you denying the role of the Opposition as enshrined in the Constitution?”

After the gate was forced open, he said: “Welcome to Universiti Malaya.”

The event, titled “40 Years: From UM to Prison”, was organised by the Students Representative Council, and had been scheduled for 9pm.

Earlier in the day, there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary on campus, with students rushing to classes and generally going about their business.

It was close to 4pm when things started heating up, with reports of classes being cancelled and staff being told to go home.

At 6pm, the car park and road to Dewan Tunku Canselor were blocked off.

The Kuala Lumpur gate was closed, with guards opening it for selected vehicles.

The council, meanwhile, posted a notice on its Facebook page calling on students to gather at UM’s Kuala Lumpur gate at around 8pm.

the other day an insurance agent called me, said wanna intro himself to me. he said he got my number through my friend. he is my friend agent so he wanted to intro himself to me lo. i told him im not interested as i oledi got insurance, and i got my own trusted insurance agent. he insisted to meet me and out of kesian (and gip face to my good friend), i agreed to meet up with me.

so we meet up and he explained bout this savings/retirement plan to me. say if i invest fr 10 yrs only, i get rm600k in return after 25 yrs. but monthly commitment is rm2k. i poorfag, i have no rm2k. rm2 is my monthly salary. so then he explained, not to worry, got cheaper option and blablablablabla....

at the end, i told him i have to think about it (i know already, i not interested, i not gonna beli with him) and then after that he ask me to recommend me ppl so that he can intro himself to this ppl.

im like, woahhhh, i only met him and not my agent and i dont know if i can trust this guy or not. so i told him, im not comfortable with giving my friends number to ppl. scared later they unfriend me on facebook. i already have very less friends, i cannot lose my friends liao.

and then this agent said la can trust him la wat la, go tell some story bout his family n clients la wat la. i just want him to go away, so i gip some numbers to him. (but i got give wrong numbers).

if you are in this position what would you do? would you gip your contacts in your godphone to someone you just met?

The subsidies and aid that the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government provides year-round has eased the burden of the people, especially those from large families, said Datuk Ahmad Maslan.

The deputy finance minister said ‎that if all the help the government gave to the people were added up, Malaysians would discover that they only needed to earn a living for nine months in a year, while the remaining months were covered by BN.

"If we add up the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M), the school aid, subsidies for petrol, diesel, flour, rice and cooking oil, I believe three months of our lives are sponsored by the BN government every year.

‎"We only spend nine months to work for a living. I will elaborate on this one-by-one tonight.
"It's not that I wish to bring this up, but I want to remind us that we have a good government that is responsible and cares for the people," said Ahmad in his speech to some 100 Malaysian Siamese in Wat Machimaram.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar recently announced that the 2014 Household Income Survey revealed wages had increased by RM900 since 2012.

Wahid said the people enjoyed a better standard of living with the average household income surpassing RM5,900 a month, compared to RM5,000 a month in 2012‎.

He said Malaysi‎a had been very successful in stimulating the economy as proven by the commendable gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6.3% in the first half of the year.

Ahmad said last night that the increase in BR1M cash vouchers by RM300 was enough to cover a family's living costs for two months.

"Next year we will increase the BR1M. If this year it is RM650 plus RM50 in insurance, that makes it RM700. If we maintain it at RM700 next year, the government will add another RM300, so that next year's BR1M will be at least RM1,000.

"RM1,000‎ is enough for a family of four to eat. If RM500 is spent in one month, the BN government covers the cost of two months. What does PAS give you? PAS gives nothing," he said.

Ahmad ‎added that families with more children received more aid.

He said Malaysians received many subsidies daily, but they did not realise it as they were paying for goods at such low costs.

"School-going children receive RM100 in school aid. If you have 10 children, you receive RM1,000. Don't forget that. Children who study at higher levels also receive book vouchers.

"Cooking oil subsidies are set at RM1.50 per kg, flour is subsidised by RM1 per kg, cooking gas is subsidised by RM20 per 16kg.

"Every time you use the RON95 petrol, the government subsidises 73 sen per litre," he said. – September 24, 2014.

the other day i kena marah with random aunty on lrt aunty not old but she marah me say i ignorant ******* not giving her seat bcoz she is older than me. she said i no respect old ppl, i shld give seat to her bcoz she is older than me and i m young shld be able to stand. i look around some ppl looked at me, then i look at the ppl who are sitting around me, all buat bodoh and play with their phone. psycho aunty continue marah me with voice so loud. i stay quiet only as i was very stunned. and then lrt stop at station, i got up and got off from the train. waited fr next train to come.

i so embarrass. but i also very mad. why she target only me? why not marah someone else. i didnt she came in to the train, i only noticed her when she suddenly she stood in front of me start scolding me with super loud aunty voice.

anyone in k got this shit happening to them before? come share what will you do if you are in my place.
