BIOS corrupted by official firmware update - help!

Today I tried updating my new mobo BIOS with the 10/04/2006 version that I downloaded from the ECS website. (I'm still having random reboot problems, so I thought this might help.) When I rebooted the computer, it ran through the first few lines of startup OK, and then I heard three rapid beeps and this appeared at the bottom of the screen:

Floppy Controller Failure
CMOS Checksum Bad
CMOS Date/Time Not Set
Press F1 To Run Setup

However, when I pressed F1, nothing happened. I think the keyboard controllers are not loading as well. I restarted a few more times and the same thing happens each time. I also tried clearing CMOS but still got the same message, probably because the old BIOS is already replaced by this new buggy BIOS.

I Googled for a solution and found one guy who had exactly the same problem but nobody answered him. Is there anything else I can do or is the mobo completely kaput now?

dual core Pentium should use aftermarket HSF only?

I read on various forums that the stock Intel HSF is pretty useless for cooling down the dual core CPUs, is it better to replace it with an aftermarket HSF immediately? I noticed when I assembled my system that the stock HSF contact point is circular and doesn't cover the entire processor surface. The original "thermal pad" from Intel was only a small square. And the clips - I was scared I'd break my mobo fixing them in!

Anyway, my processor idles at 75C. At startup it would be system temp (around 40C) and then shoot up suddenly to 75. I think that was what led to my system rebooting at random times (previous post for the entire sad saga ). I dunno if it's the mobo giving false temp readings (I heard ECS is crap) but three different monitor programs are giving same temperature.

I've tried reseating the HSF with fresh thermal compound (Nanofusion by Cooler Master. I wanted Arctic Silver but dunno where to buy in LY). I cleaned off all the previous gunk with isopropyl alcohol first. I also installed additional fans in the front of the case and my case temp went from 45 to 39C. But my processor temp is still around 75, it doesn't go any hotter than that but the system's still restarting randomly.

So I'm debating if I should get a fan or a new mobo, they both cost around the same. I also dunno if I have damaged my processor by running it so hot for so long... Any expert opinion out there?
