I wish to go from TTDI to Proton HQ in subang jaya.

Pls assist on best route to take.

Here's the initial plan.

Take mrt to kl sentral switch to kelana jaya line.

Travel all the way to USJ Summit mall. Cross the road to opposite side and use Grab taxi to Proton. Is this the best way to go to Proton?

If there's a frequent bus service, like every 30 mins, I don't mind using bus. Or Kumpool if it operates there.

I

Outdoor patio/porch umbrella or retractable awning

REF: https://shopee.com.my/Passion2.7M-Patio-Gar...c1-a00ef314c951

Thinking of getting this type of umbrella to provide shade and keep privacy from nosey neighbours with balconey across the road. alternatively i'm thinking of retractable awning but i'm guessing it's more trouble than it's worth as the electric motor will stop working after a few years (few months???). If retractable awning, the awning should be able to extend out 4 to 5 feet.

Are there better suggestions? I'd like to know.

REF: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/01/1...sardines-shore/

The few articles from mainstream news companies tries to avoid raising a possible link between the ongoing Fukushima radioactive wastewater discharge into the sea and the mass deaths of fish.

Instead, they talk about fish getting lost and freezing to death or some other environmental reasons.

The mass deaths may have nothing to do with Fukushima or everything to do with it. We need independent world experts to find out what's going on. The answer may lie in a combination of factors.

Public health - not just the Japanese but the rest of the world - is at stake.

Got a portable electric sewing machine abt 3 years back. Been working fine until lately when it stopped working.

Does anyone know any electrical store or those small stores that actually knows how to repair this appliance in PJ/Selangor?

I could get a new one of course because it's cheap but I rather try to repair it first than add more to the already growing electrical/electronic wastes piling up in the country.

AS above.

From what i gather, the Turanza T001 is a good tyre, performing well in the dry but not as good in the wet (in terms of braking and handling). Is it a long lasting tyre and what about its rolling resistance and noise?

Would like to get user feedback on whether this tyre is a good buy.

Green line on Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G

Has anyone experienced vertical green line on display on their Android phones after firmware update?

It's a global problem apparently from a Google search, and Samsung is taking a "not my problem" approach in most cases. The phone is over 3 years old.

Green lines also affect other phone brands.

One line from top to bottom of screen pop up a few days ago, it's now 4 lines. Phone is still usable as normal but the lines make some words or numbers less legible unless zoomed in.

Could be a number of causes. worst case scenario is hardware failure....may need to change screen and/or, ribbon cable/battery, which could cost over RM1K if Samsung insists on out-of-warranty payment, and no guarantee the lines won't reappear.

Some people have advised not to quick-charge the battery as it will generate more heat and could create more lines. So now I do slow wireless charging.

The link below explains the problem in more detail. Has anyone use SPR Communication SDN BHD, which specialise in phone repairs? How are their charges?

Would hate to junk the phone as i do like the stylus and jotting ability.

But in case i need to change phone, what's a good phone below RM2K that takes great photos and record decent youtube videos? phones these days are overpriced.......with the exception of the NOte20, I NOW don;t want to pay more than RM2k for a phone......RM1K or under would be better.

REF: https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-gala...-replaced-free/

Extraction 2 on Netflix

Extraction 2 - the sequel dropped into Netflix on Friday. Stars Chris Hemsworth and Idris Elba

Was looking forward to the action film but switched off midway.

Sure, got more action, more thrill-a-minute shootouts and explosions but one has to NOT think to watch it.

Plot holes start to emerge from the start.

At the start, this Georgian (the country) politician walks into the nest of the vicious killer/weapons/drug trafficker and was pitchforked to death after telling the killer why he extended the jail term of his brother. This politician knew this guy was vicious, arrives with just a few bodyguards into the turf of the killer who has an army of soldiers with him, and within minutes, he was 6 feet under in a freshly dug hole. His bodyguards all wipe out also.

Again this Georgian killer would be on the radar of Interpol and every Western European country's spy agencies - CIA notwitstanding - yet he is able to enter Vienna with a heavily armed chopper and thugs to launch an attack in the city. Huh? Were the Austrian enforcement/immigration authorities sleeping on the job as alien forces just waltz into their country to try to take out some targets?

I think Extraction 2 was just trying too hard to top the first film and in the process the logic just went out the window.

BTW, Volkswagen just loved this film as plenty of its product placement here.

Strange under-roof object and floor dust

Hello folk,

After renovating my house in 2017, it has been more or less peachy until lately when i started to noticed two items:

1. Strange long thingy in the space between the ceiling and roofing.

Can anyone identify what that is or is it just some construction cardboard or paper wrinkled up. That space can be damn hot in the day and cool at night....can pests actually breed in that space?

Hopefully it's not a wasp nest or snake cocoon (????).

2. Floor dust

Floor feels sandy sometimes. You can't see the dust until u sweep them up.....my house is not in a dusty area and I don;t think a single open window could suck in dust. Furthermore air-cond source is dismissed as the filters are clean. I was told by a pest control company it could be wood borers or wood worms. No dust trails to be found and all the wood structures still feel solid and not hollow. The current flooring was overlaid over the old parquet flooring btw......and in the early years i did not face such dusty situation until lately. If caused by wood borers, i read that a borate chemical treatment could kill off these buggers....hoping for a DIY solution. question is where can i get such a borate spray if it is wood worms, and is the spray a danger to humans?

Can glass roof support weight of average adult?
In Malaysian landed property, porch roof extensions can be metal sheets, polycarbonate, tiles or glass.

For the glass type, is it able to support the weight of an adult weigting 70kg to 90kg?

As in this example, if you need to cross the roof surface, is it safe to do so on the sections where the wooden beams are? Or would you run the risk of cracking the glass even if you walk on the parts with the beams?

I understand there are special ladders that can bend at angles tracking a glass surface so that you dont have to step on the glass roof at all.

[attachmentid=10985152]

Roofing change

My house is an intermediate lot that's 2 1/2 storey - 20 ft wide by 45 feet long. Recently renovated after 20 years. Planning for a roof tile change one day.

Based on the above, how much am I looking at to replace tiles?

Wooden trusses are still ok and have regular pest control using termite baiting system (Sentricon). Metal trusses better of course. How much would metal trusses add to the cost of replacing tiles?

Monier seems to be popular. What other roofing options are there? Not brand conscious but looking for effective, reliable and reasonably priced roofing that will be low maintenance and last for decades.

I see some houses are using corrugated metal sheets? Aren’t they noisy when it rains and are they prone to rust? Moreover are they insurable?

Monier has the Coolroof product that it claims can reduce heat by up to 10% as it is a raised system that allows for air flow underneath and lets hot air escape quickly. Must cost more than the Monier Elabana.

http://www.monier.com.my/products/monierr-...-tm-system.html

[attachmentid=9760841]

Rusty grille in less than a year

House renovations have its ups and downs. It's never perfect. Not everything will be fixed correctly or according to specs.

There is always something to patch up or fix within the first two years after the renovs is completed and after spending a bomb. For some houseowners, it's worse and have to look forward to longer years of pain as they try to make the best of a situation with whatever limited resources they have.

My main door grille is but a small example....It's powder coated ...too thin I discovered later...and parts of it is rusting.
Another grille maker later told me need to sand out the rust, add primer and then respray back.

am looking for the exact Dulux spray (Dawn Gray) ...know where i can get it in PJ/KL? Have checked with a few hardware shops but they have Nippon and Jotun colours that are not matching.

Is there such a thing as powder-coated spray in a can that you can buy off the shelf?

Any help appreciated.

The lights flicker then no light. the lights still work if i flip their switches.

this is the pattern in the living room and master bedroom.

Is this normal or electrician taking shortcut by sharing wiring between lights and fans? If i leave them alone, will there one day be a short circuit and cause fire to break out?

AAM road assist alternative

Most people sign up to be AAM (Automobile Association of Malaysia) members for the breakdown and tow truck assist.

AAM is still in deep shit, with some staff claiming they haven't got 11 months salary. (Ref: https://www.carsifu.my/news/aam-continues-t...ncial-troubles). Tow truck service is now outsourced, have to pay first, claim from AAM latter (but not sure can claim since they are in debt crisis).

I'm one of the member, and looking for alternative so that i have a backup road assist in case of breakdowns. Need a provider with flatbed carriers, able to sell car batteries and do tyre changes.

Insurers and car makers are options as many provide free breakdown service. I don;t mind paying a small annual fee for the convenience if it's reasonable.

Looking at insurers ...which offers the best option? Is Allianz road assist good? i'm due to renew my insurance in a few months on my old car, so any help on reliable breakdown service is welcome.

Need to put up a wooden partitiion under main staircase as a storage room.

was quoted $2,000 to $4,000 by some contractors. way overpriced for a slab of walnut-grained wood and door. I know for a fact it should be around $1000 or thereabouts.

can anyone recommend a good contractor for this carpentry work?

size is (starting with height and clockwise): 84 inches X 123 in X 9.5 in X 150 in.

[attachmentid=9344462]
