A hosting for 50k visits/m gov agency website

Hi all,

My client currently decided to go for external hosting.
They are quite high-profile glc company and really care about their online presence.
The website average 50k visits monthly.
It is Joomla-based website.
Hacked 2 times (defacement) this year and 1 time got DDoS (visits spike to 500k visits/day for a week).

So got a few question here:

1. Which type of hosting better for them? I think I want to go for Dedicated.
2. Is foreign hosting (mediatemple, phpfog) better than local hosting(IPserverone, exa)?
3. Normally hosting company will do a periodically backup or we need to do it by ourselves?
4. In the event of hacking, what will the hosting company do? cut off our site and notify us?
5. In the event of DDoS what usually will they do?
6. Any good hosting based on experience any of you can recommend?

Ive been listening to Ulek Mayang song. Some people said the song is not an ordinary song. It use to summon Puteri Bertujuh and still practice by some villages in Terengganu. I dunno and dun care cause the song ia quite relaxing to me. What make me wondering is the lyrics only mention 4 puteri out of 7. The puteri are 'puteri nya 2', 'puteri nya 4', 'puteri nya 6' and 'puteri nya 7'. Where is 1, 3 and 5?

Website super slow

Me and my team currently having an issue with slow responding site. Sometimes the connection loss and frequent "Cannot connect database MySQL", "Maximum execution time exceeded" error. We have increase max_connection for MySQL to 200 and 500 from default 100. We also increase max_execution_time for php to 1800 from default 30. But still those error persist. Those issues happen when active user reach around 50 to 100. Very very low indeed. Just want to know where else should we look.

Anyway our site built on top of latest Joomla. The application is just a basic fill in form develop using Fabrik component. No heavy image or complex processing query. We are using in house hosting running latest Apache, MySQL and PHP on Windows Server 2008. Currently server/network team said the server resource is underutilized.

Need opinion from u guys. Currently a website under my team supervision was hacked. 3 times in 2 months.

Type of hack:
Main page Defacemement.

File effected:
index.php.
The hackers replace the code with theirs. I dunno how they do that. Server team said it was thru SQL Injection.

About the site:
We use Joomla as a CMS.
The version is 1.5.26 which is the latest patch.
PHP config set to recommended security setting.
All extensions are clean from security issue.
We follow all recommended security setting except for permission. We host at company server which running IIS. The permission is 777 for folder and 666 for file. We tried to set it to 755 and 644 but it cannot be done. Dunno server or Joomla issue. But the consultant we hired said the permission is not really an issue.

Some recommended action:
Migrate to Joomla 2.5 - we cannot do that until June/August for some important reason.
Migrate to Drupal/Liferay - same as above. We cannot do any migration until June/August
Migrate to Sharepoint - same as above.

THE QUESTIONS?
- is it possible the hacking causes by server/network security issue? not the site/Joomla itself?
- if the hackers can change index.php, does it mean they can delete the other file/folder in the root directory too?
- is it possible to alter index.php through XSS/Cross Site Scripting method?
- any recommended action/prevention steps except migration to other platform?

I want to learn PHP Framework

Hello all. I've been planning to learn php framework (CI, Fuel) and convert all my php application to framework-based. But the problem is I dunno about OOP/MVC. I have no clue at all. It is very hard for me to catch up and learn the framework. I've watched many vid tutorials, read and try many tutorials but every time I want to start to build the app..I lost. Everything just poof..missing..

I think self train is not my thing. So anyone can suggest me any training center/company in Malaysia which provide php training especially complete in-depth training in OOP and MVC? Really want to learn those so badly..
