Wanted to open saving accounts as I have some Malaysian Ringgit I want to save just incase for future use or if want to come back to live in Malaysia. However, went to two banks recently enquire and they told me that in order to open a savings account, need to show employment letter and recent payslips. I was dumbfounded. Then I said I work overseas and they looked skeptical at me.

So just wondering if anyone actually have applied for a new saving accounts and worked overseas have issues such as mine?
The last I checked around the shops' price list in Lowyat main website as well as the forum itself, I couldn't find any retailers in Msia carrying such model from Seagate. Can anyone enlightened me who is carrying such product? Oh yeah, its for my laptop hard disk upgrade for those who are curious. Cheers~

Data Execution Preventer

Hey Guys,

Don't think I found any topic related to this Data Execution Preventer (DEP) in this thread, so lemme start one up... Ok the thing is, to be honest, I wasn't really aware that Microsoft implements this DEP into their WinXP Service Pack 2 update and to my surprise, recently I get a lot of this DEP warning popping up warning that some of my legitimately program to cause DEP to pop up.

From my experience, it seems that after I install Kaspersky AV v6, it gives me this lots of DEP pops up. Must be me but yeah, I kinda dislike it so I revert back to AVG AV Free Edition, so far no problem.

So, my point is, anyone having issues with DEP with AV like Kaspersky or DEP itself? Should I somehow tweak my DEP settings? (Knowing you can't disable it)

Cheers all!

p/s: For those who doesn't know what is DEP, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Execution_Prevention

Slow boot ups

Recently, I've setup a new PC for my sister, her comp spec is:-

AMD 4200 AM2
Asus 7600GS
2Gigs of Ram (Kingmax - DDR667)
Asus M2N-SLI
Creative X-treme music

the problem here is that the boot up timings are incredibly slow, to Windows XP of course. It took me about 1 min or so to get in and so, I decided to diagnose the system by trying out every peripherals and found out the culprit was the Creative X-treme music sound card. After installing the card's driver, the windows boot up was very slow, however, if i uninstalled it, the start up was incredibly fast, like 20sec tops. I even updated the driver to the latest and it gives me the same problem. I also tried plugging onto the 2nd PCI slot, to the edge ones and somehow, Windows unable to detect the sound card. What gives? Does that mean that particular PCI slow is 'dead'? Though, I tried using wireless PCI card onto that "faulty" slot and it seems working to me...

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
Cheers~

p/s: Mobo bios and all system files updates are latest too!

Streamyx worsen everyday?

Broadband provider
ISP/package: Screamyx 1MBit RM88
Location: Sarawak
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: No, going too

Personal equipment
Modem: Linksys WAG54v2
Router: same
Firewall used: Yes

Problem details
First occurence of problem: End of last month
Problem frequency: Most of the time
Problem description:

Well, probably you guys should know by now that tmnut has very crappy service level. I mean, before I went over to Australia around February this year, the connection was somehow satisfactory with at least 1 or twice disconnection/slow down a month. That's cool. But now, the problem is, when I come back for holiday recently, I was really shocked to see the level of the service provided has gone downhill. P2P download slow down, in most cases, some of my other p2p wouldn't download a thing though I understand most of the leechers are hogging the bandwidth and throttling p2p is alrite, but, my online gaming isn't spared.

I play world of warcraft just a while ago, infact, few days ago, just checked in to see hows the latency was, 1000ms, alright, I walk around, thats ok. But, when I start getting into heavy fight scene like pvping in AV, omg, my ping shoot up to 1.8k and it was REALLY unbearable. I can't even frigging get my character to respond. Furthermore, international sites, especially from US was horrendously slow...

So, should I start logging my complain to screamyx folks for this? I am probably sure they will just read out by saying restart your modem and the usual stuff...

And sorry for the rants, I just couldn't keep it for myself.

Uninterruptible Power Supply a.k.a UPS

Hi there,

I've tried searching the forum, in the hardware section at least, couldn't find a single topic on it. So, I hope I am not violating the rules.

Anyhow, I'm into buying a new UPS since my old UPS died on me after servicing for 5 years. Right now, I have used Blackout Buster UPS for straight 10 years and I'm looking into alternative brand. Any suggestions?

I'll probably looking into APC or Liebert, though I never heard Liebert before. Reliability?
Also, any suggested UPS power rating for 480Watts PSU and above?

Thanks!
