California Allows First-Ever State Recognized Huma

California Allows First-Ever State Recognized Human-Animal Marriage

man marries dog

Paul Horner and his dog Mac at their wedding on Monday in front of friends, family and a priest being wed.

San Francisco, CA — On Monday history was made at the Chapel of Our Lady at the Presidio in San Francisco as the first-ever state recognized human-animal marriage took place.

Local resident 35-year-old Paul Horner was the groom during the ceremony. Joining him was his faithful dog Mac who is 36-years-old in dog years. Mac also decided to be the groom but ended up wearing a white veil at the last moment.

Father McHale who officiated the outdoor wedding told reporters he was extremely happy to be a part of this joyous moment of life. “This is the definition of true love my friends. There is nothing more sacred than the bond between a man and his faithful dog,” McHale said. “Now, since it is recognized as a legally binding marriage in the state of California, Mr. Horner and Mac will have all the same tax benefits and everything else coming to them that a regular married couple would receive. It’s a fantastic day to be alive!”

So how could this have happened?

In the book of California’s State Laws and Regulations there is a little known law that was passed as the state was first forming in 1850. According to article 155, paragraph 10, it clearly states:

If a man and a man can get married and a woman and a woman can get married, if ever comes that day, then a human and animal will have the exact same rights to marriage in every eye of the law. God help us if this ever is to happen!

In attendance was Horner’s entire family who flew in from Hawaii to witness the event. Mac had her puppies on hand and making a special celebrity appearance was Alex from Stroh’s and Spuds Mckenzie.

“I just love my Mac so much, I can’t wait till we can finally get back to the honeymoon sweet in Montana where bestiality is legal. Gosh, get with the times California! We can marry here just fine, but love making is a big no-no,” said Horner. “People keep asking me why I wanted to marry a dog. I told them I just want the same god given rights that every person in California is allowed to have. Don’t tell me I can’t marry my dog. I don’t tell you that you can’t marry a 500 lb woman with herpes. That’s your decision. Don’t tread on me. I love my dog and I know he loves me a hundred times more than any gay marriage out there.”

With this wedding between a man and a male dog now on the books, one can only ask what is in store next?

A man marrying a toaster? A toaster marrying a dog? A toaster marrying a toaster?

America, what happened to the sanctity of marriage? Tsk. Tsk.
- See more at: http://nationalreport.net/california-allow...h.65pyjSaB.dpuf

MH17: Black box data reveals why jet crashed

Black boxes recovered from downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in rebel-held east Ukraine show shrapnel from a rocket explosion caused the passenger jet to crash, a Ukrainian security official said.

International investigators "indicated that data from flight recorders show that the reason for the destruction and crash of the plane was massive explosive decompression arising from multiple shrapnel perforations from a rocket explosion," said Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council.

Data from the doomed airliner's black boxes was decrypted in Britain after being handed over to Malaysian officials by pro-Russian rebels controlling the crash site of MH17.

Investigators leading the probe in the Netherlands, which lost 193 citizens, refused to confirm the latest information from Kiev, saying that they were "waiting to get a more complete idea of what happened."

Kiev and its Western allies have accused insurgents of shooting down the plane, killing all 298 people on board.

In Moscow, the head of the Russian experts participating in the crash probe, criticised Lysenko for commenting publicly without the authorisation of the chief of the investigation as is required by international agreements.

Oleg Storchevoi, the deputy head of Russia's air regulator, was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying Ukraine has "violated the basic principles of cooperation in the investigation of air crashes."

Fighting delays international access to crash scene

Meanwhile, Australian and Dutch police will make a third attempt to access the site of the downed Malaysia Airlines jet in eastern Ukraine to recover bodies and evidence.

For the second day running the unarmed police contingent has been forced to turn around before reaching the MH17 crash site due to heavy shelling.

Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he would make another round of telephone calls to the Russian and Ukrainian leadership today. But at present it was a "confused situation on the ground", Mr Abbott told Macquarie Radio in an interview.

"There is fighting and it's not just the separatists, it's the Ukrainian government as well," the prime minister said.

"They have all made a commitment to use their best endeavours to get the site safe enough for us to go on board ... and it's high time those commitments were honoured."

Searchers hunt for bodies from MH17. Photo / AFP

Mr Abbott said he was certain there were still bodily remains at the crash site. "We owe it to the dead, we owe it to their loved ones, to get them back."

Mr Abbott said Australia recognised the Ukraine's sovereignty but also acknowledged that the crash site was "contested space" and that Russia had a "very high degree of influence" over some of the separatists.

The Ukrainian military recently seized back a number of villages in the country's east with a continuing show of strength, including tanks and shelling.

Australia's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and special envoy Angus Houston met Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko yesterday to discuss an exclusion zone and humanitarian corridor.

Ms Bishop also wanted the Ukrainian parliament to ratify a deployment agreement she signed with her counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin, that would allow Australia to send in armed police or soldiers.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and 11 countries that lost 298 citizens in the MH17, which is believed to have been shot down by separatists, have agreed to set up a joint team of prosecutors to examine possible criminal charges.

The nations met in The Hague under the umbrella of Europe's judicial co-operation agency Eurojust yesterday, to discuss a joint strategy.

Producing some of the most impressive dynamic lighting and post-process effects seen so far on console, it could be suggested that the last-gen consoles are really going to struggle in delivering an equivalent experience, but Bungie built its new engine with scalability in mind, and the release of a PS3 beta alongside its console flagship suggests a high level of confidence in its last-gen offerings.

With the engine confidently described as the bedrock for all upcoming projects over the next decade, it's uncertain how many more games in the Destiny series will see last-gen support using this tech. However, we're off to a very convincing start with what's been shown so far. Weighing in with a 5.6GB download for its beta build (against the PS4's 13.2GB), the PS3 version shows how tightly Bungie intends to optimise for all its ports come launch day in September.

There are some obvious cutbacks from its PS4 sibling, of course. Put side-by-side in slow motion, courtesy of our comparison video below, world detail is pared back noticeably. The density of foliage, rocks and rubble is lowered - and many of these details fade in at a closer range on PS3 via a cascade. Geometric elements along the wall, comprising the outskirts of Old Russia, are also removed outright from the PS3 version. Even so, geometry across the scene is otherwise a match between the two - and even the enemy count is upheld for the last-gen release.

The Destiny beta compared on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Be sure to select the full HD setting for the best viewing experience.

Overall, the PS3's delivery of the game world is surprisingly close to the PS4's. The key difference here is in visibility though, where level-of-detail scaling and pop-in prove to be a bigger issue on the former - especially when riding a Sparrow at top speeds through the Steppes area. Running at an internal resolution of 1024x624, and backed by a heavy-handed FXAA post-process, image quality takes an inevitable nose-dive compared to the pristine 1080p output on PS4. With the PS3 pushing out just 30 per cent of the total pixel count - creating a much muddier image in the process - this easily stands as the most eye-opening difference between the two.

It's a sacrifice, but one that pays off in other areas. The consistency of the game's lighting engine, for example, is thankfully upheld on PS3. Lakes and waterlogged mud tracks reflect the entire world accurately across both PS3 and PS4 - with water shaders slightly improved on PS4 to render fuller waves and ripples. Curiously, downed enemies and bullet trails are the only elements not being mirrored in water, though this is a trait common to both platforms. Meanwhile, Destiny's full day-night cycle makes the cut for PS3 too, though lighting indoors is simplified in spots, via the axing of light sources.

After the sub-720p resolution, the next most glaring downgrade on PS3 is in shadow quality. Sunlit areas - such as the Old Russia overground and the outdoors segment of the Tower hub - show acceptable soft shadows at each Guardian's feet. It all changes around indoor dungeons though; direct spotlights cause shadows to appear with a nasty aliasing artifact, with no filtering to help.

Select a thumbnail to launch comparison tool

These flickering, messy shadows are undoubtedly the biggest eyesore in the PS3 version, but sightings of them are thankfully limited to interior areas. Meanwhile, the PS4's shadows appear dithered, and their coverage is complete across the landscape. By comparison, the PS3 has to make another cut-back here; patches of shade for foliage, and even around fences, are removed outright to produce a brighter landscape overall on the last-gen beta. Characters and buildings still react to light logically at least, with no major compromise.

While largely unchanged on visual level from its alpha state, the PS4 beta is achieves some impressive enhancements to its lighting. Crepuscular rays are among those that make the cross-gen leap to PS3, allowing lines of shadow to streak past any object - such as your ship - obscuring the moon's lighting. A JJ Abrams-style anisotropic lens flare and corona bloom also embellish smaller directional lights - though the intensity of each is muted by comparison to the PS4.

The treatment of effects is unusual on PS3; alpha used for smoke effects during multiplayer is markedly lower resolution here - causing a distortion to the outlines of foreground objects. But on the other hand, alpha and particle effects produced from guns and grenades remain largely as-is - though the spread of alpha is hugely reduced for splash effects. Meanwhile, PS4 owners get all the expected physics-based bells and whistles, with dynamic objects, ragdolls, and cloth physics all making it in.

Save for the odd streaming hiccup while riding a Sparrow on PS3, there isn't much lost in terms of performance compared to PS4. Both versions run at a locked, v-synced 30fps. Each release also suffers from likewise frame-pacing issues, causing a judder effect.

In terms of core asset work, normal maps take a hit in resolution too - though this is largely unnoticed unless we stop to look downwards. The downgrade takes its toll on the skyboxes most noticeably though - an area that has come to define Bungie's visual flourish. Unfortunately, distant clouds around the Tower hub area appear more two-dimensional on PS3, with layers of the background and lighting stripped away.

With that said, the PS3 visuals - even in Destiny's beta form - hold up reassuringly well given the seven-year age difference between the platforms. Nips and tucks have been made - certainly - but the look of Old Russia still feels consistent.

Performance on PS3 is also a proud point in its favour. Similar to the next-gen beta, it achieves a locked 30fps with v-sync engaged. Only the odd streaming stutter while riding a fast vehicle interrupts our reading here, where otherwise the two Sony consoles produce like-for-like results.

A look at PS3 multiplayer in isolation. The last-gen version holds up remarkably well in the performance stakes - for the most part comparable to PS4. But it's concerning to see the frame-pacing issue present here too.

Unfortunately, the PS3 version suffers from the very same frame-pacing issues witnessed on PS4 - an uneven spread of frames that, while averaging at 30fps, causes a stutter sensation on screen. This points to a bug inherent in the engine itself, and we hope to see it fixed for all versions come launch (a NeoGAF post from a long-term Bungie employee looks promising on that front). The use of full-screen motion blur on PS3 does soften the bouts of stuttering to a certain extent, but for the sake of the multiplayer experience - which is also affected - the game would clearly benefit from attention in this area.

Overall, it's hard not to come away impressed by the Destiny PS3 beta. Yes, the textures, lighting and effects are dialled back to varying degrees and the image quality takes a noticeable hit when switching back and forth with its technical successor. But the world still looks consistent - and if Bungie's aim is to prioritise a stable 30fps experience during both campaign and multiplayer, this is already a job well done.

And let's remember that this is beta code. While we assume that this release is broadly representative of the final game, it can only get better from here on out in terms of bug-fixes and optimisation. Our experience with Watch Dogs suggested that last-gen was on its way out - that the old consoles just couldn't keep up with the demands of the new gaming era. Destiny may have its compromises, but the beta code suggests a solid, feature-complete cross-gen experience. Two out of four versions played so far look stunning and we're looking forward to testing out the Xbox One and 360 versions released later this week.

Alvin is nothing

What would Alvivi be without Vivian Lee?

14/06/2014 - 08:00

Mike Tan

QUICK TAKE: Never one to shy away from the limelight, Alvin Tan is back in the news again, this time for not returning his passport after a trip to Singapore on May 18.

An arrest warrant was issued as a result, and we can expect a response from Alvin that’s calculated to turn this very minor incident into something distasteful.

After all, that is what it’s all about for Alvin, another attempt at grabbing attention.

Bored with the story so far? Here’s the part you’re more interested in – his other ‘half’, Vivian Lee, had dutifully returned her passport on June 3.

That little exercise highlights the simple point of this otherwise meaningless article, that without Vivian Lee, Alvin would probably be nothing at all.

After all, their rise to infamy was solely on the back (and of course, other positions as well) of her prowess in bed (and in other locales, seeing as they ARE adventurous). At best, Alvin comes across as a cheap knock-off of Namewee, except he can’t sing and can’t compose.

(From left): Alvin and Namewee

In terms of acting, Alvin definitely can perform, as we’ve all seen in his videos with Vivian. But since we haven’t seen Namewee cast in a similar role (nor do I hope to, anytime soon), we can’t say who is the better of the two. Perhaps it would be fair enough to say that both would be decent performers.

When it comes to directing, I would say that Alvin has an edge over Namewee. Alvin certainly knows how to use his main asset (NO, no, no, it’s not what you think), Vivian very adeptly and has shown a certain talent at the erotic. Namewee, on the other hand, just asked Joyce Chu to act cute and strum a ukulele while remaining fully clothed throughout her video.

Again, a true comparison would be hard as YouTube has a ban on pornographic videos. It would be interesting to see though, whether a video of Alvivi in action, or even one with Vivian and another girl, as hinted by Alvin in a photo shared on his twitter, would beat Namewee’s Joyce Chu’s video in terms of views.

That means that it isn’t Alvin that the public wants to know or rather SEE, it’s VIVIAN LEE!

Not convinced yet? Okay, here’s the clincher. If Vivian does want attention, she doesn’t need to say a single thing, all she has to do is take everything off. Or make an offer to any guy out there.

I’m sure that she’d have tons of guys lined up waiting to sample what she has to offer. And then brag about it to the entire world.

The legend Alvin, in various stages of 'evolution'

Alvin? Although he’s a self-proclaimed legend, he’s got to use pork, shock tactics and share news and photos of Vivian.

Check out the two photos below – of Vivian and Alvin – and be honest. Who would you want to sleep with?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I rest my case.
- See more at: http://www.theantdaily.com/Main/What-would...h.qNVUbmrE.dpuf

The D-Wave Two quantum computer clocks in no faste

The D-Wave Two quantum computer clocks in no faster than a standard PC, but those already well-known results still leave us scratching our heads over speed testing.

by Nick Statt
@nickstatt
June 19, 2014 4:20 PM PDT

screen-shot-2014-06-19-at-2-54-28-pm.pngJeremy Hilton, D-Wave's vice president of processor development, with one of the company's quantum computers. Screenshot by Nick Statt/CNET

D-Wave Systems, the leading manufacturer of the world's first commercially available quantum computers, is the most well funded and far along player in the quantum chip race, but hasn't yet succeeded in convincing scientists that its machines are successfully achieving quantum speedup. In other words, we're not sure that its product is speedier than traditional, silicon-based machines.

In fact, in certain situations, the $15 million D-Wave Two is still no faster than the computer on your desk right now.

A research team at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich reports that there is still a lack of definitive evidence that the D-Wave Two can perform functions any faster than traditional machines. The results of the test were published in the journal Science Thursday, though the work of head physicist Matthias Troyer has been widely circulated since January because the paper was available in pre-print.

"Using random spin glass instances as a benchmark, we find no evidence of quantum speedup when the entire data set is considered, and obtain inconclusive results when comparing subsets of instances on an instance-by-instance basis," Troyer, a physicist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, wrote.

Quantum speedup is the process by which a computer not based on silicon -- D-Wave uses tiny liquid helium-cooled loops of niobium for its computers -- can bypass traditional computational limits through the quirky, occasionally unexplainable weirdness of quantum mechanics. While binary computers are restricted to math-based computations using bits that flip between 1 and 0, quantum computers hijack properties like entanglement and superposition using quantum bits, or qubits, that exist as 1 and 0 simultaneously, theoretically amping up the calculation speed exponentially.

screen-shot-2014-06-19-at-2-54-44-pm.png Screenshot by Nick Statt/CNET

The Zurich tech is yet another conflicting assessment of D-Wave's hardware -- and runs counter to the results touted by D-Wave itself, as well as Google. The search giant last year established its Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab in a partnership with the NASA Ames Research Center and Universities Space Research Association. The goal is to use quantum computations to unearth new ways of breaking through the computation walls currently plaguing the progress of algorithmic AI and machine learning. Google is using D-Wave as its primary product.

Google and NASA celebrated the D-Wave Two back in January with test results of its own showcasing the D-Wave's quantum speedup clocking in at 35,500 times faster than off-the-shelf optimization solvers. But Google was quick to point out, as Troyer laid out in the Science article, that there is no clear cut way of testing quantum computation because we don't really know how to calculate, or even detect, quantum speedup, let alone set a standard for benchmarking.

"While this is an interesting baseline, these competitors are general-purpose solvers. You can create much tougher classical competition by writing highly optimized code that accounts for the sparse connectivity structure of the current D-Wave chip," Google admitted in a blog post concerning the results.

Google even cites Troyer and his team's results as reason not to hail the D-Wave as a catch-all quantum computer: "Two world-class teams have done that [wrote highly optimized code]. One is a team at ETH Zurich led by Matthias Troyer, considered to be one of the world's strongest computational physicists. With help from Nvidia, his team managed to write classical simulated annealing code running on GPUs that achieves an incredible 200 spin updates per nanosecond. The other tailor-made classical competitor was written by Alex Selby. You may recall he won £1 million for cracking the Eternity puzzle."

D-Wave was not pleased with the way the Troyer test has been perceived for those very reasons, as co-founder Geordie Rose told Wired's Clive Thompson in May. "[They] had the best algorithm ever developed by a team of the top scientists in the world, finely tuned to compete on what this processor does, running on the fastest processors that humans have ever been able to build," he said. And D-Wave's offering "is now competitive with those things, which is a remarkable step," he added.

Troyer and his team were using the University of Southern California's D-Wave Two and running it against a Cray supercomputer software optimizer tuned specifically to run blazingly fast on an Intel desktop.

"Basically, the paper being released in Science looks at a narrow set of benchmarking problems that aren't expected to show an advantage for quantum annealing," a D-Wave spokesperson told CNET, adding that Troyer's research roused a similar debate back in January.

That brings up a central problem in the nascent quantum computing field right now. A lot of the hype and debunking surrounding D-Wave is about shifting the parameters around which tests are performed and against which kinds of traditional machines optimized for various types of computations. So you can make the D-Wave look 35,000 times faster -- or 100 times slower, as Troyer did -- if you simply have it tackle certain types of problems and race it against something that's really good, or crummy, at solving said problems.

One thing is clear: The D-Wave is no ordinary computer, and even Troyer and the Zurich team will admit it can sometimes achieve speeds up to five times faster than the Intel PC. "Our results do not rule out the possibility of speedup for other classes of problems and illustrate the subtle nature of the quantum speedup question," Troyer concluded.

For now, quantum computing is still a bit of a question mark. Hitting that quantum speedup remains an issue of feeding it the right problems and tuning the D-Wave software to crack them. For now, there's no reason to write the D-Wave off when quantum computing has barely arrived and there's still mounds of work to do when it comes to figuring out how to adequately test it.

Update at 2:15 p.m. PT, Friday, June 20: Clarified that the research published in Science Thursday, June 19 concerned scientific research made first available in pre-print back in January.
