Should I Repaint My Car (Vios 1st gen)

Hi I havbe a Toyota Vios 1st (year 2005), 19 y.o. I don't intent to sell it, it is very trouble free. The only problem now is the paint work. I have sent it for a repaint job about 7 or 8 years ago, but now it looks like this:

Mostly the top parts that are receiving most sunlight are faded. The sides of the body are still looking good. I have to confest that I have never wax the car.

I have asked a workshop in Serdang, they will charge 3.2k for a full repaint, 10 days work.

I'd like to ask is it a fair price? Are there any alternatives to a full body repaint?

Toilet Floor Leaking

My terrace house have 2 toilets upstairs, both have leaking problem and cause the lower floor ceiling having cracks and rust. Pictures below are actual photos of the ceiling under the toilets.

A contractor told me this can be done by completely hack away and redo the floors of both toilets, add in water prooving. But this method will create a lot of havoc. I also heard of the new nano technology but don't know much about it.

Can sifus help me make a decision: traditional method / nano?

Hi all, I live in a normal terrace house (24x70), facing 15 deg. North, and I plan to install an AC in my living room (ground floor). I don't think I need an inverter type because it will only be used when we have guests coming, or when it is extremely hot during day time.

For an area this size, my questions are:

1. Would 1.5 HP enough?
2. Is inverter relevant here?
3. Which brand and model is best for my case?

My priorities are reliability (less break down), and effective (it really cools down the area).

An extra note: We will install solar panels in the coming week.

Hi all fellow Malaysians. I am a Cina middle aged music lover. I have on and off listened to Malay songs since the late 80's but never consistently nor systematically. Now I am having more free time, I wish to explore more Malay pop songs that are excellent during the 80s and the 90s. Based on my limited experience in Malay songs, these are my favourite songs that are of my taste:

1. Ikhlas Tapi Jauh (the whole album) - Zainal Abidin
2. Gerimis Semalam - Sheila Majid (and most of her songs)
3. Widuri
4. Apo Nak Dikato - The Blues Gang
5. Isabela - Search
6. Layar Impian - Ella (and most of her songs)

How to Apply Australian Travel Visa for Maid?

Hi all,

Need help urgently, preferably from someone who has done this before.

Mistake made: Tickets bought for 12 Feb departure before obtaining visa. Malaysians all got their ETA visas, but not knowing that the Filipino maid's application is more than complicated.

A family including a member who is a stroke patient needs to go to visit relatives in Australia, but she needs to bring along her Filipino maid who is caring for her. The rest of them have successfully obtained ETA online, but for the maid is more tricky.

We know that she has to apply under "subclass 600", but is it under "Business Activities" or "Tourism" stream? We are puzzled because the maid is actually working during the trip for the employer (the patient), but the online form doesn't have "Employer" as an option in the "Relationship with the Applicant" part. If we just apply for her under the "Tourism" stream, then what to fill in the Relationship part?

Would really appreciate if someone in the know can help. Better if you can leave your phone number through private message so I can get your advice directly. Very urgent.

Hi all sifus, need to change my old stove and saw in the malls selling infrared ones beside the traditional gas stoves. Check up videos online and sound very impressive - use less gas, higher temperature, and safer. Everything seems good, except one thing I need to know: Is it suitable for Chinese style of stir fry? For old people like my mother, they like to cook with visible fire, and real high temperature to get a good stir fry on vegetables, rice, bihun etc. Any people reading this if you have real experience using this type of stove, please advice. Thanks.

Bulb Replacement for Sony Projector VPL-EX100

Hi sifus, recently my projector (after 1700+ hours) has a problem where I observed that the blue color is out, making white turns yellowish and blue becomes black. I think it is time to change the lamp. A search from the net shows that my model needs the LMP-E211 lamp, and some sellers sell only the lamp, some sell it with the housing.

I'd like to find out: how do I know if I should just change the lamp, or change the housing also?

Lawful for Cinemas to Restrict Food & Drinks?

Cinema chains in Malaysia are all now banning people from bringing in food and drinks into theaters, instead, they allow people to bring in those sold by the cinemas themselves. They even search our bags at the entrance. Is this lawful?

An analogy: I pay for long distance bus fare, but the bus company has no right stop me from bringing along my own snacks and drinks.

Any opinion?

With this, I am now standing to work on my computer average 6 hours a day, greatly reducing my sedentary time!

After using the above for half a year, I found this new concept:

Seeking Good Mechanic Near Equine Park

Hi all sifus, as stated I stay near Equine Park in Seri Kembangan. I would like to find good mechanic workshops neat this area (up to Puchong, Balakong, Kajang, etc). By good I mean:

1. He has good skills.
2. He is honest.
3. He is educated (at least in this line of work). By this I mean someone who is not just a self-learnt mechanic (like China man workshops), but has gone thru proper training/education in mechanics either from institutions or from prior working experience in official service centers.

I ask because I used to know such a guy in Taiping who worked as a Nissan mechanic before, then he opened his own workshop. He is not just a good mechanic but is very knowledgeable, and he can explain things to me with theory and logic, not like a China man sifu who can't discuss any further even though they can get the job done. I have more confidence bringing my cars to him. Sadly, I have left that place many years ago. I would be glad to find a man like this and make him my regular mechanic.

Toyota Altis 2.0G (2014) Engine Oil and Filters

Hi all sifus, for 5-year old Toyota Altis 2.0G auto bought new in 2014, the warranty period is over and I think it's time to service it outside of UMW as they are expensive. All the while have only been serviced by UMW.

The main use for this car have been to go to work and leisure in KL-Serdang range. Weekly drive is about 600 km, will drive to Penang about 3 times a year only. For this kind of usage I would like to know if i go outside for service, what kind of engine oil and oil+air filters are best? All I know is that in UMW they have been using semi synthetic oil all the while for my car.

Are brands of oil filters and air filters important too? Please advice.

Would appreciate your advice, best with brand, model #, and price.
