'I Was Drunk and Stupid': Danish Foreign Minister Apologises for Sex With 15-Year-Old Girl

Jeppe Kofod called having sex with a 15-year-girl from his party's youth wing “the biggest mistake of his life” and admitted it would haunt his career. Still, the case had no legal repercussions and didn't stop him from making a spectacular political comeback.

Denmark's Social Democrat Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod has apologised for having sex with a 15-year-old member of the party's youth organisation (DSU) during an Easter course in 2008.

“I was drunk, and I was stupid,” Kofod admitted to TV2. “I know very well that it's not enough to say sorry. I wish I could change that. The only thing I can do is regret it,” he said.
According to TV 2, Kofod previously said that he did not know the girl and her age when he invited her up to his room after the lecture he had given.

Twelve years ago, then-34-year-old Kofod resigned from all political positions, including his role as Social Democrats foreign policy spokesman. However, he made a political comeback shortly thereafter and became the lead candidate for the Social Democrats in the 2014 European parliament election. In 2019, Kofod became foreign minister in the Mette Frederiksen cabinet.

The case resurfaced again amid the #Metoo movement against harassment and sexual abuse, which placed Kofod under renewed criticism from Danish parties such as the Alternative and the Social Liberals. The leader of the Alternative, Josephine Fock, said it was “poor judgement” on the part of Mette Frederiksen to appoint Kofod as foreign minister. The Social Liberals equality spokeswoman Samira Nawa said that Kofod's apology is worthless.

“This has never been about extracting another apology out of the minister. It has been about breaking down taboos about sexism, daring to talk about the issues that hurt, and making it clear where our boundaries go. And that showdown is still just as relevant,” Nawa said.

Kofod replied that it is an old case, which was known before he became foreign minister. But he acknowledged that it will continue to haunt his political career.

“It was the biggest mistake of my life, and I apologised then. It is a matter I think about daily, and I wish I could change it,” Kofod said.
In Denmark, the age of consent is 15. Thus, Kofod did not break the law.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the case serious, but emphasised that her confidence in Kofod remains firm.

“I have confidence in the ministers who have been appointed in Denmark. Jeppe Kofod has both apologised and expressed regret,” Fredriksen said.

The Mette Frederiksen Cabinet is a minority government comprised of the Social Democrats. It relies heavily on parliamentary support from fellow left-of-the-centre parties, such as the Red-Green Alliance, the Socialist People's Party, and the Social Liberal Party.

AUTHORITIES raided a restaurant in Ipoh that offered sex services after meals, reported Harian Metro.

A total of 19 Chinese national sex workers aged between 28 and 50 were nabbed during the raid.

Sex after meal services were offered only during weekends.

Perak Immigration Department chief Kamalludin Ismail said they carried out the raid at a restaurant and pub on Saturday following a public tip-off.

He said the guest relation officers would entice customers to an apartment nearby after a meal.

China warns to boycott Apple, with iPhone

China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian warned on his Twitter that Chinese people would boycott Apple products if WeChat is banned on iOS, but brought embarrassment onto himself as netizens discovered the tweet was posted with an iPhone.

Zhao has been dubbed the minister’s “wolf warrior” for his aggressive stance against Washington and its policies against Chinese enterprises in particular.

At a regular media briefing on Aug. 27, Zhao said if the U.S. goes ahead with President Donald Trump’s proposed sanctions on Chinese businesses, including TikTok and WeChat, Chinese people will simply stop using iPhones.

He also lashed out at U.S. politicians for abusing state power to “unjustifiably suppress non-U.S. companies” “under the guise of national security”.

“Such acts of piracy have done harm to the rights and interests of consumers and businesses in the U.S. and other countries, and it is bound to be opposed and resisted by the international community,” he told reporters in Beijing.

Zhao posted a warning tweet a day later – “If WeChat is banned, then there will be no reason why Chinese shall keep iPhone and apple products.”

However, the ministry’s deputy director seemed to have said one thing, but meant another.

Netizens quickly found out that his tweet, published just past midnight on Friday, came with a label “Twitter for iPhone”.

A boycott threat for Apple from an Apple product prompted numerous sarcastic or angry comments. “This is not the first time, everyone in power in China uses an iPhone.” “Even our own people don’t use Huawei.” “People just use the phones they think are good, users are not stupid.”

Zhao is not the first Beijing loyalist who was “caught red-handed.”

Msia Sinchew: SG falls in pandemic due to 3 flaws

There are three flaws in the measures taken by Singapore government when dealing with the COVID-19 crisis, including government’s overconfidence, a lack of crisis awareness and the citizens’ overdependence on government, says Tay Tian Yan, the deputy executive editor-in-chief of Malaysia’s Sinchew Daily.

In an article published by Malaysia’s Sinchew Daily on Friday (24 April), Mr Tay shared his opinion on the reason of Singapore falling heavily on COVID-19 pandemic though Singapore has been recognised as the most efficient and safest country with the top public health system around the world.

As the countries worldwide are dealing with the spread of COVID-19 since March, the Singapore government had encouraged the people to go about their lives, such as working, studying, travelling as normally as possible while asking people not to wear mask if they are not sick, says Mr Tay.

He remarked, “It is good to have self-confidence. But, overconfidence indicates the start of failure.”

Noting Singapore announced its “circuit breaker” measured three weeks after Malaysia imposed Movement Control Order (MCO), Mr Tay however, pointed out that the ministers had chosen to use the rigid “elite language” during the announcement, which in fact reflects the disconnection between government and general society.

He said, “Just by this ‘circuit breaker’, shows the degree of disconnection between the elite government and general public.”

“Despite Singaporeans having adequate knowledge with a good command in English, I believe that the common people would not understand what ‘circuit breaker’ means. They might know the electrical ‘circuit breaker’, but what does it has to do with COVID-19?” he added.

Even the Chinese media had trouble in finding the appropriate words to describe the “circuit breaker”, said Mr Tay.

Citing the word “lockdown”, “movement control order” or “stay-at-home orders” which clearly stated its meaning and purpose, Mr Tay stressed that the important government policies should be conveyed in a way that is easy to be understood for the people.

On top of this, Singapore also has overlooked its large population of migrant workers due to their overconfidence and not being “grounded”.

He noted that the leaders of Singapore government are the “outstanding individuals” who are “carefully selected” from academic elites, adding, “However, they are not ‘grounded’ because they ‘came from the sky, not from the land’.”

Speaking on the second flaws, Mr Tay mentioned that Singaporeans are too dependent on “Cheng Hu” (government in Hokkien language) as they always believe what the government says is right.

“When the Government says that there is no need to be worry, everyone goes on with their life as usual. Similarly, when it asked Singaporeans not to wear masks, the people also heeded its “advice” and furthermore, mocked Taiwanese and Hong Kong citizens for wearing masks,” he said.

He then said that it would be “dangerous” in the case of unforeseen circumstances if the citizens merely obey the government and are deprived of independent thinking and judgment skills.

Singaporeans tend to take for granted as they feel prosperous and safe in the country with the highest GDP in the world, says Mr Tay, adding that this mentality has consequently caused a lack of crisis awareness among the society.

Hence, he said, Singaporeans assumed that the virus is only linked to other countries and has nothing to do with them though the world struggles against COVID-19.

With that in mind, some nightclubs even extended its operation hours the night before circuit breaker started, while the long queues have been seen at bubble tea shops after the food and beverage outlets were asked to temporarily close under the elevated circuit breaker measures.

Mr Tay expressed that there will be blind spots and failures regardless of how successful the country and how capable the government is, noting, “Overconfidence and success are traps on the way forward.”

However, he believed the country would ride out this crisis and learn the lesson from it.

Singapore has reported an additional 618 cases of COVID-19 infection on Saturday (25 April), bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 12,693 in the country.

Of the new cases, seven are Singaporeans and permanent residents, while the rest comprises migrant workers living in dormitories.[/SPOILER]

Daihatsu may pull out from being Perodua's partner

Daihatsu Motor Co Ltd, the Japanese shareholder and technology partner of Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), wants to meet Prime Minister (PM) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to resolve the UMW Holdings Bhd-MBM Resources Bhd takeover impasse.

UMW aims to acquire MBM Resources, which owns a stake in Perodua, and subsequently raise its shareholding in the country’s No 1 carmaker based on volume.

An industry source told The Malaysian Reserve that representatives from the Japanese firm had sought to meet the PM during his visit to Tokyo, but it could not be fulfilled due to Dr Mahathir’s tight schedule.

The source said Daihatsu will continue to seek a meeting with Dr Mahathir in Malaysia soon.

“Daihatsu is trying to have a meeting with Dr Mahathir here. They shall explain their position on UMW’s proposal,” the source said.

The source, who is close to the developments, claimed Daihatsu will object to the takeover proposal and will relay that to Dr Mahathir.

It is believed that Daihatsu’s rejection of the proposed takeover is due to the company not being in favour of UMW holding a majority stake in the carmaker.

Industry insiders said the proposed takeover could lead to Daihatsu pulling out from being Perodua’s technology partner.

UMW has made an offer to Med-Bumikar Mara Sdn Bhd and Central Shore Sdn Bhd to acquire their 50.07% combined stake in MBM Resources for RM501 million, or RM2.56 per share, that in turn will add UMW’s shareholding of Perodua by 22.58% via MBM Resources.

The initial offer was at a 30% discount of MBM Resources’ net tangible asset per share value of RM3.68.

A husband accused of cheating was 'caught' after becoming stuck inside his lover while they were having sex in a hotel room in Kenya, it has been reported.

Guests at the hotel in Kitale town, Trans-Nzoia County, heard screams coming from one of the rooms and raised the alarm.

On arrival police reportedly found the couple 'stuck together' and doctors had to be called in to free them.

Nairobi News reports that the man was in Kitale for business and had left his wife at the home in Lodwar town.

The wife later claimed that her husband had been having an affair with his landlady in Lodwar.

Officers were called to the hotel and arrested the lovers, who were taken to a nearby police station, the reports say.

According to local media, a large crowd gathered as news of the bizarre situation emerged. Police were forced to fire shots in the air to disperse the onlookers.

Reports suggested that the wife had asked a witch doctor to help catch her husband out. A shaman was reportedly seen trying to separate the couple.

It is not clear why exactly the couple became stuck together in this way, but they may have been the victims of a rare occurrence known as 'penis captivus'.

This is when the muscles of the vagina clamp down on the penis much more firmly than usual.

When the penis is in the vagina it becomes increasingly engorged, Dr John Dean, a UK-based sexual physician, told the BBC.

Saudi Arabia just held what might be the weirdest fashion show in the history of fashion shows. Instead of having models showcase dresses, organizers opted for drones.

Yes, seriously.

Videos posted on Twitter of the event, which took place at the Hilton hotel in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah, show floating dresses on clothes hangers gliding down the catwalk, suspended from small black drones. The dresses, which included designs from Dolce & Gabbana, ripple in the air as onlookers in the glitzy hotel lobby peruse the items on offer.

One Twitter user joked that it looked like a “ghost movie.”

But others on Twitter had more serious criticisms, claiming that the use of drones instead of women further perpetuates the archaic and patriarchal restrictions on women in Saudi Arabia.

The show’s organizer Ali Nabil Akbar told BBC Arabic that the decision to use drones was “suitable for the month of Ramadan” and that he wanted to create something “special” to celebrate the Muslim holy month.

Although the organizers’ intentions didn’t work for everyone, the videos reflect how much work Saudi Arabia has to do to achieve equality for women.

Fahmi: Bangsar South will soon be Kg Kerinchi

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — Fahmi Fadzil said the reverting of Bangsar South to its original name of Kampung Kerinchi will be one of the first pledges that he intends to fulfil after winning the Lembah Pantai constituency.

With the cooperation of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the first-time MP said he hopes he can get this done within his first 100 days in office.

“I raised a number of issues and one of my key promises was to return the name Kerinchi to Bangsar South. That, for me, is quite important.

“The process needs to be done through DBKL I have to work with DBKL and they have expressed their readiness to work on this,” he told Malay Mail.

Fahmi said the matter had been raised in a meeting with KL Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz on May 31.

“There is a process for it, which needs to be done via the OSC (One Stop Centre) where we have to submit a request for the name change.

“During the course of the meeting, DBKL senior officials told me that even the council itself had disagreed with the name change. According to its rules or standards, they must keep current local names, especially Malay names.

“The question is why was this allowed or rather who allowed the name change? I have yet to find out, but I am keeping a close eye on this matter,” he said.

Fahmi said that during the course of his GE14 campaign, the locals who have resided in the area for decades, said they were not consulted over the name change.

He said the people who lived in the area have a strong sense of identity and belonging, and that the pledge he made to rename Bangsar South was one of the important platforms during his campaign.

“After I won, I remember a man came to me and cried uncontrollably when he told me about the rebranding of Kampung Kerinchi. It is a very sentimental thing for the people here.

“Kampung Kerinchi was formed by the urban pioneers in the 1870s. People who are part of the Kerinchi group still speak to one another in the Kerinchi dialect they still have their sense of identity. Who are we without our sense of history? That is why we must not easily change the names of places,” he said.

Kerinchi was renamed Bangsar South six years ago.

Report: India Govt may bring petrol under GST

Under attack on steeply rising petrol and diesel prices, the Indian government is expected to discuss the feasibility of bringing the two fuels under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) ambit. The issue may be considered in the council’s next meeting, the date of which is yet to be decided.

“The GST Council will consider bringing petrol and diesel under its ambit in its next meeting,” Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday, a day when rates of petrol neared Rs 78/litre and diesel became all-time high of Rs 68.75 in Delhi.

Goyal said the government used the cash raised through excise duty on fuel rices to fund development projects. He said the government was currently monitoring oil prices to take a long-term view.

According to industry data, in four years since 2014, the NDA government mopped up Rs 16.57 lakh crore as tax revenue from petroleum product sales, mainly from petrol and diesel. Tax experts have said that if petrol and diesel are brought under GST, they will be cheaper by Rs 26 per litre.

Former finance minister P Chidambaram had said that it was possible for the government to cut petrol prices by at least Rs 25.

PETALING JAYA, May 19 — Rates at the country’s dominant e-hailing firm Grab have inched up since its acquisition of Uber last month, according to unhappy users venting on social media.

Some accused the firm of using the elimination of its only serious rival to do away with the price and promotion war it had waged against Uber, whose regional business it acquired in March in exchange for a stake in Singapore-based Grab.

Others believe service levels by drivers with the Grab network have also deteriorated as a result of the lack of serious competition.

“Grab did a fare hike before expected uber transition making short trips expensive more income to them. Then super bad service,” wrote Facebook user Amaan Farro on Grab’s page.

MANILA (Reuters) - Philippine (PH) President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday accepted the resignation of his tourism secretary, the ninth official to leave his cabinet, after the state audit agency flagged a questionable deal in her department.

Wanda Tulfo-Teo, a small tourist operator from the president’s southern home town of Davao City prior to her current role, was engulfed in controversy after a department advertisement worth $1.2 million ended up on her brother’s television show for a state-run network.

Confirming the resignation, Duterte’s spokesman, Harry Roque, said, “I think Secretary Teo, being a close associate of the president, did what she thought was the best course of action, and we thank her.”

Roque said the resignation was not an admission of guilt as the president’s office would leave the country’s ombudsman to determine the public officials liable for any wrongdoing.

There was no announcement on a replacement for Teo.
