Indonesia has announced that it’s aiming to commission its first nuclear power plant within the next 9 years as part of the country’s broader push to diversify its energy mix and strengthen long-term energy security.

The country’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, was quoted by the Indonesia-based portal Jakarta Globe as saying that the proposed facility is designed to have a capacity of up to 500 megawatts (MW) and will be developed across Sumatra and Kalimantan, with 250MW allocated to each.

Indonesia aims to build nuclear power plants in Sumatra and Borneo by 2034

Bahlil Lahadalia on Tuesday (24 June) further revealed that the nuclear power plant is part of Indonesia’s national energy roadmap, and that several countries have expressed interest in partnering with Indonesia to develop nuclear energy, including Russia and Canada.

He added that his Ministry has prepared a roadmap and that the country must have its first nuclear power plant by 2034 at the latest.

Previously, Jakarta Globe reported that Indonesia is moving ahead with plans to harness nuclear energy after radioactive materials, including uranium deposits, were discovered in Kalimantan on the island of Borneo.

Specifically, West Kalimantan’s Melawi regency is believed to hold an estimated 24,112 tons of uranium, making it a key area in Indonesia’s nuclear ambitions.

Currently, there is only one nuclear power plant in Southeast Asia, which is located in the Philippines’ province of Bataan.

https://worldofbuzz.com/24000-tons-of-in-re...umatra-by-2034/

Incoming B-2 stealth bombers with GBU-57A/B bombs

10-year Malaysian passport to be available soon

KOTA KINABALU, July 12 — Malaysians will soon have the option to apply for a passport that will be valid for 10 years, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.

He said the Immigration Department is ready to introduce a 50-page passport double the time of the current five-year validity period, just like some other countries in South-east Asia.

"Yes we are ready to start issuing a 10-year passport like some of our neighbouring countries like Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

"It will be optional, so those who want five years can still have it, while those who prefer a 10-year passport can pay a little bit more as it will also have more pages,” he said when opening a new passport office at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here today.

He added that the Immigration Department had studied and found no issue with long-term passports since other countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and France have implemented them.

"We have decided we can also head in that direction,” he said.

Asked to elaborate on the expected launch date, Saifuddin Nasution said it will be "in the near future”, adding that he wanted to leave it open-ended for now.

"Before, I said we would study it and now we are ready. But the date of implementation is to be announced. I think that is clear, right? We will announce it later,” he said.

The federal minister also announced that Malaysians who have lost their personal identification documents in natural disasters like floods will be able to get replacements free of charge.

"We are aware that our country is flood prone. We are a hotspot. So our role here is to replace the identification documents.

"We will replace them for free without any extra charges. That is our commitment. And we are doing this now in many incidents where disaster strikes and people cannot save their documents, be it birth certificates or identity cards or others,” he said.

Saifuddin Nasution was also asked about plans to relocate the headquarters of agencies like the police and the Fire and Rescue Services Department which were also prone to floods and replied that it was under the jurisdiction of other authorities.

https://www.malaymail.com/amp/news/malaysia...ble-soon/143520
Subang Airport jet operations to start in August

KUALA LUMPUR: Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport or better known as Subang Airport will see the resumption of narrowbody aircraft operations from up to five airlines from August this year.

Business Times learned that three Malaysian-based carriers – FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd (Firefly), Batik Air Malaysia Sdn Bhd and AirAsia Malaysia, a unit of AirAsia Aviation Group (AAG), will begin operating their Boeing 737s and Airbus A320s respectively while the two other airlines are believed to be foreign.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the company that operates Subang Airport, confirmed to Business Times yesterday that the airport will start jet operations in August this year.

"We are in the midst of conducting the Operational Readiness Activation and Transition (ORAT) right now in preparation for it," an MAHB spokesperson said, adding that it is still early for the airport operator to announce which airlines will be flying out of Subang Airport.

ORAT is a rehearsal or testing of airport operations, typically done prior to the opening of a new airport or terminal, or before the start of a new airport operation to identify and mitigate risks.

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Firefly, AAG and Batik Air Malaysia have confirmed the start of their narrowbody aircraft operations out of Subang Airport next month.

MAG said Firefly will be operating its B737-800 aircraft out of Subang Airport while the group will assess its financial performance and make adjustments accordingly as and when needed.

"Firefly has been designated as the vehicle to launch MAG's jet operations at Subang Airport. However, financial viability is key for the group and we will continue to rigorously assess all aspects of our operation including the new Firefly jet operations in Subang and will adjust our plan accordingly as and when needed," the group's spokesperson said.

In May this year, MAG group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail told Business Times in an interview that the destinations that MAG would fly to from Subang would be domestic and Asean destinations.

MAG's other airline unit, Malaysia Airlines Bhd, will remain operating out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.

Firefly also operates ATR 72-500 turboprop airplanes from Subang Airport. The airline has 12 ATRs and three B737-800s in its fleet.

AAG group chief executive officer (CEO) Bo Lingam confirmed that AirAsia will be flying out of Subang Airport starting August 30 with twice daily flights to Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) and Kuching International Airport (KCH).

"We're planning to fly on August 30 from Subang. Two times daily flights on BKI and KCH. July 23 (we will be) open for sale for Subang (Airport) and operations (start) from August 30," he told Business Times when contacted yesterday.

Batik Air Malaysia's CEO Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the carrier will fly its B737 MAX-8 aircraft to domestic destinations first from Subang Airport and he hopes that the airline will have more slots.

Batik Air Malaysia and Firefly already have slots at the airport as both airlines have been operating out of Subang.

As for the two foreign airlines, aviation industry sources remain tight lipped saying that it would be revealed during the announcement of Subang Airport's jet operations' resumption.

The announcement is believed to be made in the next few weeks.

There were talks that Singapore Airlines' budget carrier, Scoot, might be one of the two foreign airlines to operate out of Subang Airport.

When contacted, a Scoot spokesperson said the airline is currently unable to share any further details.

"We seek your patience to wait for official announcements from Scoot relating to new route launches," the spokesperson added.

In May this year, Scoot CEO Leslie Thng said the airline is interested to fly its new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft from Singapore to Subang once the airport is ready for jet operations.

"Subang Airport is one that we would be interested in but it depends on when the airport is open for jet operations," he said when asked by Business Times during a media briefing in Singapore ahead of Scoot's inaugural E190-E2 flight to Thailand.

The resumption of narrowbody aircraft operations out of Subang Airport comes 26 years after all jet operations were moved to KLIA in 1998.

MAHB senior general manager for strategy Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin told Business Times in an interview in May that Subang Airport will be able to handle B737s, A320s and A321s.

Subang Airport had undergone a redevelopment project in Dec 2023 starting with Phase One where five parking bays for narrowbody aircraft and six for turboprops were built.

https://www.nst.com.my/amp/business/corpora...e-airlines-bttv
Mahathir’s leg amputated

One poignant example of this harsh reality comes from the story of a 21-year-old man named Mahathir, who recently faced a life-altering challenge when he lost one of his legs to diabetes.

A powerful video shared by the TikTok account @kedidi_kapikalsu has brought Mahathir’s story to light, showcasing the unpredictable nature of diabetes.

Just one week before the start of Ramadan this year, he had to undergo the amputation of his left leg, a consequence of his daily consumption of a local brand of carbonated water after school.

Mahathir attributed his diabetes diagnosis to his daily indulgence in a local brand of carbonated water, a habit he had formed after returning home from school.

The consequences of his sugary indulgence were devastating, ultimately leading to the loss of his limb.

When asked about his initial feelings after the amputation, Mahathir expressed his frustration at the limited mobility and the challenges it posed to his work life.

Before his medical ordeal, Mahathir had been employed at the McDonald’s Jalan Tun Perak restaurant in Masjid Jamek for a commendable one year and six months.

Despite these overwhelming setbacks, Mahathir remains resolute. He hopes to return to work if circumstances permit, but he’s also open to exploring new ways to make a living.

In a heartwarming display of support, Kedidi Kaki Palsu, a Malaysian company stepped in to lend a helping hand. They offer free prosthetic legs to amputees from less fortunate backgrounds.

The TikTok community responded to Mahathir’s story with encouragement and admiration for his resilience.

One user commented, “He’s still smiling; may he enjoy good health.”

Another wrote, “At just 21, he’s faced this challenge. He has a long journey ahead. We wish him the very best. My advice: cut back on sweet and fizzy drinks.”

Another user suggested, “Sugar and processed foods are the culprits.”

As of now, the video has garnered an impressive 1.6 million views and 43,000 likes, touching hearts worldwide.

You can watch the full clip here:

https://weirdkaya.com/21yo-msian-man-has-hi...rink-every-day/

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I created an Apple ID with the country as USA. Thus all prices in the App Store are in USD.

I was wondering if I can change country or region to Malaysia so that the App Store prices will be in RM

Oh yes, I still have balance of USD43.92. Can it be converted to RM and transferred to my bank account?

Thanks

Perodua Bezza or Myvi (Budget 50K)

Hi all. I am currently driving a 2010 Viva 850cc manual in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Car loan fully paid.

I am thinking of getting a Perodua Bezza 1.3AV (the highest variant) since it has a lot of safety features.

However, I think that the Perodua Myvi 1.3L G is a lot more solid and safer due to its chassis. After all, in all of the news you have been hearing about Myvis’, they don’t call it King of the Road for nothing.

I am mostly driving around the city (Kota Kinabalu). There are no highways in Sabah like the North-South Expressway (PLUS). So i probably don’t need things like Cruise Control.

Should I do a trade in with Perodua with my Viva car, or should I sell it?

P.S My parents encourage me get a vehicle with the most safety features. But I think the best safety feature for a vehicle is the driver, right?

Any comments and criticisms are welcomed.

Thanks.
