NST JOHOR BARU: A Bangladeshi woman was charged in the Sessions Court here today with intentionally causing grievous hurt to her boyfriend by allegedly cutting off his genitals two weeks ago.

Begum Masuma, 34, initially pleaded guilty when the charge was read before judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail. However, the court did not accept her conditional plea because the accused only partially understood the charge.

"I understand a little. This is my husband's fault," said the accused, who was charged with intentionally causing grievous hurt to Babu Mondol, 33, using a knife that could cause death if used as a weapon.

The alleged offence was committed at about 1am on Oct 8 at a squatter house behind a factory in Gelang Patah here.

Begum, a factory production operator, was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code. A conviction carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine.

Deputy public prosecutor Zuhainie Zull Kafli told the court that the offence is non-bailable and the prosecution would not propose bail because the accused is a foreigner who was also charged in the magistrate's court today for entering Malaysia without valid documents.

"This is also a serious offence because it caused grievous injury to the victim, who is her boyfriend, and they were living together," she said.

The court denied bail and set Nov 11 for case mention to secure the services of a Bangladeshi interpreter.

At the magistrate's court, Begum was charged as a non-Malaysian citizen for not possessing a valid pass issued under the law to enter the country.

The offence was allegedly committed at about 12.15pm on the same day at the Gelang Patah police station compound here.

For the act, she was charged under Section 6(1)© of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act. If convicted, the accused faces a fine of up to RM10,000, a jail term of up to five years, or both.

Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab also rejected the accused's guilty plea because she appeared not to understand the charge read out to her by the court interpreter.

The case, prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam, was also set for mention on Nov 11 to secure the services of a Bangladeshi interpreter.

SEPANG: Sumud Nusantara volunteer Muhammad Hareez Adzrami, better known as Haroqs, said he would not hesitate to join another humanitarian mission to Gaza.

"If given the chance, I will go again, God willing," he said after returning to Malaysia.

Haroqs, who was on the vessel Free Willy, was among the 23 Malaysians who took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission to Gaza, which ended with their detention by Israeli forces before being released on Oct 4.

Airplane from HongKong catch fire

NEW DELHI: Air India said on Tuesday it has grounded a passenger jet for checks after a power generator caught fire shortly after landing at India's capital city, New Delhi.

The aircraft's auxillary power unit (APU) caught fire when its passengers were getting off the aircraft, and was automatically shut down, a spokesperson for the airline said in a statement.

APU is an electrical power generator typically located at the rear of an aircraft. Its primary function is to start the main engines and power essential onboard systems while the airplane is parked at the airport.

Passengers "disembarked normally" and are safe but the aircraft, which was flying from Hong Kong, suffered some damage, the airline said. It did not elaborate on the damages caused to the plane.

The impacted flight is an Airbus A321, data from flightradar24 showed.

Air India said it has notified the regulator of the incident. India's aviation regulator was not immediately available for comment.

Air India has come under heightened scrutiny in the aftermath of one of its planes crashing fatally in the western Ahmedabad city in June, which killed 260 people.

Expressed willingness to host a group of Palestini

Speaking to Independent Urdu—the Urdu-language edition of the British newspaper The Independent—Hamas spokesman Dr. Khalid Al-Qadoumi said, “Initially, the number will be 15, but the timeline for their arrival in Pakistan has not yet been determined.” According to Independent Urdu, the Palestinians planning to travel to Pakistan will transit through Egypt and Turkey, though they have not yet left Egypt.

Al-Qadoumi added, “Several Islamic countries, including Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Algeria, have expressed willingness to host a group of Palestinian prisoners released under the Tufan al-Ahrar agreement. Discussions with these countries are currently ongoing.”

Earlier, the Palestinian news agency Quds Press reported that Pakistan was among four countries agreeing to host prisoners released under the Gaza ceasefire. Citing a “senior Hamas official,” the agency stated on Monday that “the [Hamas] movement is currently negotiating with several countries to secure approval for hosting the remaining released prisoners.”

Quds Press also noted that 99 Palestinian prisoners freed by Israel have been deported to Egypt, with a total of 263 prisoners expected to be released by the end of the ceasefire’s first phase. The report indicated that 15 prisoners are due to arrive in Turkey from Cairo on Tuesday, February 4. It further mentioned that Hamas is in talks with Algeria and Indonesia to take in prisoners, while Tunisia has declined to do so.
