DIY for your ROM and Wedding

Just the thought of sharing my partially DIY bouquet for my ROM. Why partially? Well, the foam roses was purchased (non DIY) while the decoration of the bouquet was done by me (DIY).

Intended to purchase satin ribbons to DIY my own rose ribbons but due to insufficient time and the unavailability of the color ribbons that I want, ended up doing something simpler. Just wanted something long lasting so that I can display this once I'm done with my ROM. Real flowers can't do that and it would be a waste of money.

Event: Registration of Marriage (ROM)

Materials:

- foam rose (white and pastel pink) approximately 45 roses
- 2 inches ribbons (white)
- 1 inch ribbons (pink)
- fake deco pearls, diamonds, crystals
- some lace for the holder
- glue gun + glue sticks
- any materials suitable to be converted as your bouquet holder. I used PVC pipe
- thin wire (those use for flower making) to be attached to the deco
- scissors
- lighter/candle to seal the end of the ribbons so that the thread doesn't comes out
- needles and pink thread

Outcome:

[attachmentid=5147232][attachmentid=5147236][attachmentid=5147242]

Cooking Hood Ducting

Dearest all,

I'm cracking my head trying to figure out how to conceal the ugly ducting of my cooking hood.

The reason why it is not concealed is because:

1) Left - the tiled pillar is actually consist of huge water piping
2) The top - there's a beam as seen in the picture

There's no way for the duct to be hidden in any of it.

Trying to brainstorm ways to hide it My beautiful kitchen is spoiled by THAT duct. I'm sure there's ways; but I can't seem to figure it out except for consulting kitchen cabinet guys to come up with ideas to hide it with wood panels or something.

Appreciate any wonderful ideas from fellow forummers here

ps: Please don't ask why I do not go for recirculating hood. I do not see the point of installing that if it's not gonna work efficiently. I have an open kitchen concept btw.

Sub contractors for Renovation Without a Main Con.

Hi all,

Not too sure if anyone has posted this before; prolly there are discussions in various threads but not a specific thread created on this.

After multiple main contractors came over to my condo for measurements and quoted the price, I realized that most of them overcharged.

I've done intensive readings and surveys by going through all these renovation threads here and have noted down the approximate prices for basic things like (1) electric related e.g. points (2) hacking & retiling (3) flooring (4) cabinets e.g. kitchen, wardrobes (5) piping/toilet related (6) windows, grills (6) walls hacking- all these among the common things done during a renovation process.

Then, I was thinking, if it is possible to engage sub contractors specialized in their area and get them to renovate accordingly because I believe this may help to save cost alot. However, I do know that one must have the luxury of time to coordinate this. If lets say I do have the time, I might consider getting this people individually to quote me instead.

Generally, I intend to do:

1. Hacking of old tiles (floor and walls) - kitchen, 2 bathroom, yard & balcony
2. Re-tiling the above area (tiles will be provided by me)
3. Removal of old parquet and leveling - 2 bedrooms
4. Laminated flooring - 2 bedroom (will most likely engage Robina after various quotations and comparison)
4. Removal of old plaster ceiling in 2 bathrooms and to fix a new flat board plaster ceiling with downlight opening
5. Hacking of 1 wall between kitchen & yard
6. Grill & sliding or swing window at the yard, Grills at condo entrance
7. Sliding window between kitchen and dining area
8. Kitchen cabinet and quartz top (have already identified my kitchen cabinet builder and quartz top provider separately)
9. Bi-fold door for 1 bathroom
10. Shower screen for 2 bathroom
11. Extra piping for bathrooms
12. Removal of old basin top and to build new concrete top + tiling for basin - 2 bathroom
13. Build concrete top +tiling for wet kitchen (sink and preparation area)
14. Removal of old wardrobe, old kitchen cabinet (currently my other half is removing the old built-in wardrobe to save cost)
15. Waterproofing at various area - mostly bathroom or area close to it, window area (water has already seeped in)
16. Relocate piping at kitchen sink area (extended kitchen after wall between kitchen & yard is hacked)
16. Power points - about 35
17. Light points - about 31
18. Fan points - 4
19. Piping points - 4

My questions:

1. Anyone has done such before? How is it like?
2. How is the process-like? Step by step perhaps?
3. How to coordinate from one job to another?
4. How much of time actually needed to ensure things do work out ok.
5. How much do you get to save? %?
6. How do I categorized the things I intend to do according to the work? e.g. bathroom, if I wanna hack the tiles, lay tiles and do piping, waterproofing, concrete top for basin, is this done by 1 contractor OR separate ones (1) tiler (2) piping fella etc etc etc?
7. Whom should I engage based on the job listed below?
8. Can this be done in 3 months?

Hope to get some input. Any comments are welcome.

Was quoted prices like RM49k, RM43k, RM36.5k, RM25k and pending another quotations now. Majority prefer to quote 1 lump sump (e.g. bathroom = price X, kitchen=price Y) instead of breaking it down according to prices per sqft. Quite hard to compare.

Thank you so much!

Ultrasonic Iron Hair Treatment Iron

Hi gals,

Anyone know where this can be purchased in Malaysia? Currently the saloon number76style been using it intensively for their hair treatment. It's really pricey. I myself have done this treatment before using the ultrasonic iron hair iron and it works miraculously. From really frizzy, tangled, dry hair, only 1 treatment can transform mine into smooth, manageable hair. This can last me for about 1 month.

Purchasing it online from overseas cost a bomb. Can't seem to find it here. Care to share if you know where to buy this iron.

Thanks!

Dear all,

I have been working with this company since February 2013 until present.

By referring to the the content below in my Offer Letter given to me, it is stated that either party is required to serve 3 (three) calendar month's notice or 3 (three) month's salary in lieu of such notice.

[attachmentid=4094141]

My question is, since it wasn't mentioned that this 3 months is applicable 1) before and after Confirmation or (2) only after Confirmation, what's the exact notice period for a non-confirmed staff?

Until today, I have yet to receive any written confirmation letter from the management.

Does that mean, I can tender by giving 1 month notice? or the 3 months is applicable to me?

Thanks

Chinese Superstition

Hi all,

I was told by a friend about how one should not attend any wedding, baby shower and funeral 3 months before and 3 months after its own wedding to avoid "luck clashing". I can be quite superstitious. Sometimes I choose to follow just to avoid any mishap. But not to attend any wedding before and after in a span of 6 months is quite difficult especially when you have close friends around you getting married at the same time.

What say you? Any encounter before when you do not follow? A

Any other superstition that I should know associated with wedding?

Hi all,

I'll be getting key soon to my 2nd hand condo located at Kuchai Lama. Based on the picture below, these are the things which I plan to do.

Red - Priority

Blue - Second priority

[attachmentid=4032036]

What could be the approximate cost? I'm allocating about 30 to 40k. Would it be enough to cover (1) red or (2) red and blue?

Anything else (red priority) which I have missed out? Suggestions and comments are welcome.

Thanks alot!

Hi guys,

Just doing a simple survey on the management/treatment of sinusitis should you have one; specifically if you have chronic sinus problem.

Please have a look at the choices below, and choose your answers based on your most frequently used methods to reduce the congestion.

You can have more than ONE (1) types of treatments. Select your choice in the poll above.

I. Self-help remedies - nasal rinsing, steam inhalation, warm compress on face, usage of humidifier

II. Nasal decongestants (nasal spray) prescribed by Dr. - e.g. fluticasone, mometasone, budesonide

III. Pain relievers - such as aspirin, acetaminophen or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

IV. Antibiotics - when it is caused by bacteria infection

V.
Hi all,

Care to share your experiences of ROM held together with your reception??

I cannot decide whether to have it separately as in (1) have my ROM first in 2014; followed by (2) Reception and Tea Ceremony in 2015 OR

(3) ROM+Reception+Tea Ceremony on the same day.

For my ROM, I've plan to engage a makeup artist to doll me up (probably about RM200-250) + get a photographer which cost me about RM250.

With this cost, I've thought of having it as in option (3) for cost-saving purposes since no matter what I'll still need to engage a wedding day photographer+makeup artist.

With the money spent (RM150+250), I can actually bring over the marriage registrar to my wedding day for ROM; which I've heard cost approximately RM500?

I'm planning to have non-banquet, non-chinese lunch/dinner wedding reception style.

What say you?

Thanks!

[WTB] Hair Treatment Masque

Looking to purchase hair treatment masque for extremely dry and damaged hair. Something workable please if you are looking for a long term customers.

Many of the masque in the market are only able to give tangle-free hair for up to 1-2 days. I'm looking something way longer than that. Best if it can be use with hair steamer as well.

So, if it can last for less than 2 days, don't be bother to offer me. More than that, you are welcome.

Offer me.

Debt Collection

Has anyone has experience engaging a debt collection agency or lawyers? I'm not talking about ahlong here.

Looking into engaging one to collect this huge sum of debt owed by an ex-gf to my current bf now. When I talk about huge amount- is approximately about 20-30k. Initially she did pay by installment basis for about 4 months-RM1000 per month. Then she stopped doing it with given reason she's out of job and all the bullshits.

However, it has been months ( May 2013-NOW). Boyfriend did try to contact her but she blocked his messages everywhere. Thus I think it's time to take this matter to another step. However, we will send her letter of demand and also approaching her parents first. If there's no positive outcome, legal action will be taken against her.

But then, the only proof we have now is credit card statements. Not too sure if it's workable . We don't mind paying lawyers fees out of the collected amount.

Do share if you have contacts or experience in this. Thanks!

Backdating SPA to 2013

Hi all,

I'm in the midst of acquiring a condo unit worth RM425,000. This owner of this property is a company; hence despite it has been more than 6 years, they will still have to pay a flat rate of 5% RPGT.

Vendor's lawyer has requested to backdate the SPA to 2013 to avoid paying for the 2014 RPGT. However, my lawyer has adviced not to go along with it as it is illegal and may backfired to me in the future should any checking is done.

Anyone encounter this before? Any comment on this matter?

Thanks
