I saw this ad on lowyat jobs and wanted to give it a try since it looked promising.

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3013895

There seems to be legit requests for translators on the site. However, once you register, they immediately request a payment of $19.

Is this a scam? Has anyone found employment through this site before?

Advice on First Car Purchase

First time buying car. Any advice is great!

I went to a perodua center already and the only loan that I'm told I can get is Public bank at 3.34% loan for 9 years. I'm putting down a 10-20% downpayment though. Is there anything I need to look out for? The car is around RM50,000+. Have any of you bought a perodua in Kuching before and could recommend a place? RM210 for car number normal kah? My friend bought car previously didn't get charged for her number plate, but the guy I talked to said have to cough up additional money for the number plate.

Need car for work since only one car at home. Any advice is welcomed.

Thank you.

Phone Salesman sold me phone and took a shit on me

Well, first of all, that’s illegal. Shame on you for even considering it!

That aside, let me go into the reasons why you shouldn’t never consider buying an imitation smartphone based on my experience. A few days ago my –second hand- iphone died on me without warning. It’s been working perfectly fine for three and a half years up till then, so while I was reasonably upset, I thought it was high time to get a new phone.

I did not have much of a budget but I managed to scrounge up $500 for the new phone. After some searching, I decided a Lenovo phone would fall in my budget. I wasn’t tech savvy by any definition, so reviews were all I had to fall back on. I was probably going to settle for a Lenovo 880, which costs approximately $500 based on the advertisements on the net.
That night, I went to the market with the full intent on buying a proper phone since I needed a working phone to communicate amongst colleagues.

Lo and behold, the Lenovo phone was nowhere near $500 (more like $700) which was so far off from my budget it wasn’t even funny. After talking to the salesman, he suggested an imitation smartphone. It was within my budget and had better specs! He offered me a phone with 4gb memory, 1gb RAM, 5megapixel camera and free screen protector and casing for $350. It was too good to be true! Here’s a phone with better specs than the Lenovo phone (which is over my budget anyways) and he’s offering a one year guarantee! How enticing!

Who wouldn’t go for it?

Anyone with half a brain, that’s who.

Turns out I have less than half a brain. As you may recall, I wasn’t tech savvy at all. I bought the phone. Before you all start berating me for buying an imitation phone, I know it’s wrong and stupid and illegal for good reasons but I was stupid and in a moment of weakness, I let the sweet talk get to me.

The phone worked for less than 24 hours. I turned it on (immediately letting it swallow $3 from internet charges because my prepaid phone did not have free internet) and charged it for the recommended number of hours before downloading Whassap on it. Then I started keying in the contacts. The phone was incredibly laggy, but I figured I could learn to live with it. After an hour or so of randomly chatting to my friend on whassap, the phone’s screen went dead. I wasn’t really paying attention to the phone at that point, but it probably had about 70% battery left? I thought I must’ve been wrong and plugged the phone back in to continue charging it. It gave me the ‘No battery’ screen that I will grow accustomed to seeing over the next few days. I thought it might’ve been a onetime occurrence and thought little of it till the next day, when it did exactly the same thing (with 50% battery left after full charge). I went to the salesman and told him of the problem. ‘Maybe the battery’s faulty,’ he said, casually replacing my phone battery with one of the batteries he had on display (that he was using for samples).

The phone battery had 70% charge to begin with. Two hours later, it died on me again. I went back to the salesman, who sheepishly gave me a brand new battery. ‘That should be the end of your problems,’ he said. Not. Even. Close. I did not have WiFi at work, so I had to go home till the same problem started again. Turn on WiFi? Boom! Instant phone death. I went back to the phone salesman, who promptly gave me a different phone. No batteries this time so I had to charge it again. Turn on phone (goodbye $3 internet charges). I fully charged the phone, thinking that would be the end of my problems. Nope. Big surprise. I was both frustrated and incredibly annoyed at this point. Should’ve bought a proper phone.

Right. New phone. I will go with my initial instinct and buy a Lenovo. I went back to the salesman and told him as much. I wasn’t keen on buying from the same seller again though. Here, I should mention that the 4gb memory was more like 2gb memory. And after such a ridiculous amount of problems, I reckoned I should get to a proper distributor to get a phone (maybe Sony, or something). Here’s the catch. He would give me $100. Remember how I bought the phone for $350 three days ago? Yeap. f*** that shit.

“You get $100. You must’ve done something to the phone to break it. What did I do? Oh, you went on whassap? You didn’t tell me earlier! Why are you changing your story? First you say you turn on WiFi, now you’re on whassap? What part of the story do you want to change again? If you drink a bottle of water and want to return in three days later, would the market refund you?” was his example, shoving his bottled water in my face.

“He would if the bottled water had a cockroach in it!” I shouted back.

“Do you see a cockroach in this bottle?” he asked.

I was stumped. Wow logic. Such debating skills. I was no match.

I stood in awe as I listened to his number of examples and reasons why I was never getting my money back. He would, however, get me another phone to test. So here I am, with the third phone (Boom! $3 internet charges) and hoping to god that this would be the end of my problems. Here’s the guy who sold me the phone with problems and accusing me of lying, then calling me unreasonable for wanting my money back.

I’m not proud of myself. I broke down a little. I’m just so frustrated. I just want a proper working phone. Now I can’t even afford the Lenovo because if I do return the phone, I’m only going to get $100. I could do a trade in and get a different phone with the same seller. $350? Hah!

“You wish. $280, at the most,” he says.

So yeah. Never. Buy. An. Imitation. Smartphone.

I'm going to go curl in a ball and continued crying now.

TL;DR: Buy phone for $350, faulty, replaced, faulty again, replaced again, faulty again, salesman offered to buy phone back 3 days later for $100.
