In Malaysia, the amateur radio is regulated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM). To operate
an amateur radio station in Malaysia, the operator must have an Amateur Radio Operator’s Certificate and an Amateur Station Apparatus Assignment (ASAA) or a foreign amateur radio licensed from countries that have a
reciprocal arrangement with Malaysia. Please refer to Appendix 8 (GUIDELINE FOR AMATEUR RADIO SERVICES IN MALAYSIA document) to obtain the list of countries that have a reciprocal arrangement with Malaysia.

What is Amateur Radio?

Amateur radio service is defined in the Communications and Multimedia (Spectrum) Regulations 2000 as “a radio communications service (covering both terrestrial and satellite) in which a station is used for the purpose of self training, intercommunication and technical investigations carried out by authorized persons who are interested in radio technique solely with a personal aim and without any pecuniary interest”. Millions of amateurs’ radios communicate daily with each other directly or through relay systems and amateur satellites. Amateur service may provide alternative for emergency communication in time of natural disasters. Activities that amateur radio operators can do with their radios are diverse. The following are examples of the activities carried out by hams :-

a) Communicate around the world. With HF radio, hams can talk to each other at any part of the globe.
b) Converse around town. With small portable VHF or UHF transceivers, hams can enjoy wireless communications within their local community.
c) Help in emergencies and natural disasters situations by providing immediate communications whenever normal communications service is failed or unavailable.
d) Build own radio, transmitter, receiver and antenna.
e) Communicate through amateur satellites. Ham can use amateur satellites operated by the amateur community without any cost.
f) Communicate with astronaut while they orbiting the earth.
g) Experimental with Amateur TV (ATV), Slow-Scan TV (SSTV), or send still-frame pictures.
h) Participate in “transmitter hunt games” or “Fox Hunt” or maybe build their own directional finding equipment.
i) Participate in the search and rescue activities by providing communication required.

Things That Are Not Allowed To Do With Amateur Radio

Specifically, there are few things that amateur radio operators are not allowed to do:

a) Amateur radio operators are not allowed to do anything with their radios that can generate financial income.
b) Amateur radio operators are prohibited from broadcasting to the public. The amateur radio transmission is meant to be received by other amateur radio operators/stations only.
c) Amateur radio services shall not be used for the expansion of business, religion and politics.

Getting Started

You can start you hobby in amateur radio by joining a local amateur radio club. Clubs can provide information about licensing in their respective area, local operating practices and technical advice.
(*NOTE: It is advisable to get in touch with MARTS and you will be directed to the affiliated clubs).

In Malaysia, amateurs are required to pass an examination to demonstrate technical knowledge, operating competence and awareness of legal and regulatory requirements in order to avoid interference with other amateurs and other radio services. There are two types of exams available. Passing in the examination entitled you to apply for the Amateur Station Apparatus Assignment (ASAA) or in general you can call it as Amateur Radio License (license).

If your ASAA application is approved, SKMM will issue a call sign with “9W” or “9M” prefix depending on your eligible operating class. This call sign is unique to amateur radio operator. You must use it on the air to legally identify your amateur station during any and all radio communication. The entry level to obtain the ASAA (or in general it’s call as the Amateur License) is ASAA Class B (“9W” prefix). You must operate on Class B for at least one year before eligible to upgrade your license to Class A (“9M” prefix).

Privileges of the Amateur

In contrast to most commercial and personal radio services, radio amateur operators are not restricted to use type approved equipment, and therefore some radio amateur equipment are home constructed or modified equipment in any way, so long as they meet all the technical requirement such as its operating frequency, power level, classes of emission and the national and international standards on spurious emissions.

[Source: SKMM GUIDELINE FOR AMATEUR RADIO SERVICES IN MALAYSIA/Second Edition]

UPDATE:

Starting 01/01/2023, MCMC has introduced a new class for starter.
Continental MAXCONTACT 6

I'm shopping for new set of tyres for my Accord 2.0VTL and currently I'm on Michelin Primacy 3. Due to odd size, not that many options available out there. Anyone has any experience with Continental MC6? I was quoted RM440 (before GST) for it. I'm looking for tyres circa that price. The shop has Michelin PS4 for RM590 (before GST) and I think that quite expensive.

Transplanting Optiplex 990 to normal mobo/case

Hi all,

I've a five years old Optiplex 990 SFF that just died on me. Problem probably with the power supply unit. The original PSU will turn on/off every few seconds when connected to the power line. Bought a replacement PSU (might be used/refurbished), it could boot up but sometime it will shutdown by itself (triggering normal shutdown not sudden off). Got a replacement for the replacement from seller but it was even worst, it won't pass the POST.

Now, I'm thinking of transplanting the i5/2400 cpu, ram, hdd into a new motherboard + case. Anybody knows any suitable motherboard? What gen is the processor? The motherboard has 4 memory slot and I've filled them all with 2GB DDR3 sticks.

Thanks for any help.

Since there is no single thread on SAP programming tools, I believe this thread should help forumners that are into SAP development but couldn't find (or lost) when trying to get help.

What is ABAP?

ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming, originally Allgemeiner Berichts-Aufbereitungs-Prozessor, German for "general report creation processor" [1]), pronounced as 'ah-bop', is a high-level programming language created by the German software company SAP. It is currently positioned, alongside the more recently introduced Java, as the language for programming the SAP Application Server, part of its NetWeaver platform for building business applications. The syntax of ABAP is somewhat similar to COBOL.

What is ABAP Object?

The ABAP language supports object-oriented programming, through a feature known as "ABAP Objects".[2] This helps to simplify applications and make them more controllable. ABAP Objects is fully compatible with the existing language, so one can use existing statements and modularization units in programs that use ABAP Objects, and can also use ABAP Objects in existing ABAP programs. Syntax checking is stronger in ABAP Objects programs, and some syntactical forms (usually older ones) of certain statements are not permitted.

What is SAPScript?
SAP script is the SAP System’s own text-processing system. It looks and feels a lot like other leading text-processing systems.
It is used to print preformatted text in pre-formatted forms.

What is Smartforms?

The SAPScript successor tool for creating and maintaining forms within SAP solutions, such as CRM, SCM, SRM, and Healthcare. Smart Forms provides an easy-to-use graphical user interface and offers the following advantages compared to SAPscript:
- Creating and maintaining forms requiring half the time
- Adapting forms without any programming knowledge due to an entirely graphical user interface
- SAP delivers a set of forms for central business processes

Interesting links:
sdn wiki: ABAP Programming
sdn wiki: SAPScript / Smartforms

Discussion/forums:
snd forum: ABAP subforum
sapfans forum: ABAP subforum

Tips and tricks
1. Collection of useful function modules..
2. More ABAP Tips & Tricks
3. More frequently asked questions
4. SAP core modules - Tables relationship

Sources: wikipedia, sdn, sdn wiki & the net (google is your friend )

I've the latest board B3 release with latest 'BIOS' 1003 which was released in Feb/11.

Anybody else having the same problem? Searching the net, there is one other guy that had the exact same problem as me and someone suggested that he might get a lemon .. am I in the same boat too?

My hairs turn grey already...

Further details on the setup:

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 LE
Processor: Intel i5/2400
Graphics card: Gigabyte GT430
RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3
HD: 1TB Hitachi 7200rpm

[addedon]March 25, 2011, 8:18 pm[/addedon]Damn.. known bug on the motherboard..
--
P8P67 LE UEFI 1003
Change Log -
- Removes full reset at POST (double post) on cold boot or auto overclocking routine.
- Improved OC performance using Auto Overclocking
- Improved BCLK and DRAM OC capabilities when enabling the “Internal PLL Overvoltage” option in BIOS.
- Minor Bug Fixes including Auto Rule for C3, C6 being disabled when overclocking and improved USB compatibility.
- Enabling Internal PLL Voltage will still cause resume/hibernate issues (Intel related) but we are working with Intel on any potential workarounds

Building NAS

Hi all,

I'm thinking of building a NAS (network access storage) aka Home Server. I know that I could get one for around RM500 (Dlink barebone) or RM600 (Buffalo with 1TB). But I would like to build a new one from scratch based on off the shelf parts. Anybody has done this? I'm thinking of building a low power one if I could source a low power PSU too.

What I've in my mind:

1. HTPC/miniATX casing - Silverstone SG05/LianLi V351 - Any other case that can take more than 2 3.5" HD?
2. Atom based mobo - Is there anything that can take more than 2 SATAs?
3. Low power PSU - Anyone know where I could source 150W PSU? - a bit of confusion here.. if I put in 350W and my rig only need probably 100W, will I wasted energy here?

On the sw side, I'm thinking of putting Debian/Lenny.. shouldn't be a problem there with SAMBA, and torrent thing..

All suggestions are welcomed.

Hi there,

Just wondering if it is possible to move the following topic into Hobbies forum instead:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/388244

It is currently under Mobile Phone/PDA .. and Radio Amateur is none of either of it .. Amateur Radio is more of a hobby and looking at discussion inside the thread, nothing related to Mobile Phone/PDA at all.
