Kuching vs Kota Kinabalu?

Hi. I need some advice from you people out there who have been to both places before (seriously, no biased answers please).

If you have to choose between Kuching and KK (and I'm talking about being stuck there for a couple of years with little to no chance of traveling back to Peninsula), which city would you choose to work in?

Thinking in terms of
1. How friendly and helpful the local people are
2. Accommodation
3. Ease of access around the city (public transport, traffic jam, risk of flooding...)
4. Cost of living, grocery shopping
5. Parks for jogging, swimming, exercising (not interested in gyms)
6. Quick weekend getaway (Because we all need to chillax every once in a while, right?) (KK seem to be winning out on this one based on internet reviews, what with Tanjung Aru, TARP and Kundasang not too far away. But Tanjung Aru's first beach is closing now, so it seems they're both even-ish?)
7. Cleanliness of public toilets (???!!! haha I'm serious...)

I've been to KK. I thought the people were so much friendlier than in KL. Generally good ambience. Tons of jogging/hiking trails But jam hours are crazy!!! Almost comparable to Petaling Jaya. Seriously -.-

Thanks all.

Options to carry money while travelling to Thailan

First time travelling abroad. Will be going to Thailand (Koh Tao & Koh Samui) for 2 weeks. Want to know the best way to carry money so that I don't get ripped off by insane bank charges while withdrawing at ATM but not lose everything in one go in case I get robbed. Traveler's check is 15% charges on Koh Tao apparently, according to tripadvisor. That sounds like daylight robbery. Any advice? Thanks all!
