Eton House Malaysia

Recently drove by the Persiaran Stoner Eton House, next to Japan Embassy, and surprised to see the campus is now closed and abandoned. It appears other EH sites in Malaysia are also closed?
There was some stories a few months back on the fees being paid to an 'unofficial account' but hadn't realized the entire company group was impacted - there doesn't seem to be many recent news stories on this - just simple insta/FB posts on the closure? What really happened?
What will happen to the Persiaran Stoner site - that's a lovely location?

KL Metroscape

This guy has some very good and practical proposals. You’d hope that this is getting viewed in DBKL and other city admin in KV?
Mindsets need to change on taking public transport, future developments must be inline with the MRT and transit plan, not just where developers acquire landbanks.

Maybe also look at the whole procurement question as none of us want to pay more fees, it seems there is adequate budget but its seemingly being spent on poor quality or not fit for purpose repairs or installations - like why do some sections of road churn up every year in rainy season, pavements and street furniture fall into disrepair within months, pedestrian crossing lights buttons in key traffic areas falling apart soon after installation (not a great advertisement for Visit Malaysia 2026) , yet perhaps theres revenues going uncollected with inadequate parking enforcement (it should be relentless and 24/7, and no reduced fines for late payment).
Your thoughts?

https://youtu.be/lvw48YCMATE?si=DpQOnzpd9eKXbIwQ

I’ve got a unit with 4 large doors (installed @2008) that appears to be end of lifecycle- they dont close/seal properly, handles are falling apart, casters are broken etc.
They were also single glazed which was probably the market expectation at that time.
I’d like to get any recommendations on replacement options and whats the best models nowadays?
Is steel frame still a standard? Are frames reusable to defray costs or need complete replacement?
Is double glazing a nice to have or must have as traffic/environmental noise is so much greater?
Are there any benefits to reflective screens (can see in/cant see out?)
Whats the normal process - onsite measurement, off-site manufacture, installation usually takes about how long ? Reasonable budget?
Is it all local production now?

Tks

Bone grafting at the dentist

Hi , has anyone recently done dentist work involved bone grafting?
I am planning it as part of removing a crown and inserting new implant.
I’m interested to hear about the methodology and experience - I’ve been told to expect @4mo for the graft to set, bone to firm up and gums to regrow.
I wasn’t quite expecting to give blood to grow my own bone but it makes sense……..sorta!

Really - what could go wrong?
Can general dentist in KL do this work or is special license or qualification required ?
I understand that drawing blood is part of the standard dentist license scope.

Thanks

Reference
Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and its predecessor, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), are categorized as autologous blood concentrates, which are blood products made using the patient’s own blood. The clinician draws a blood sample from the patient then concentrates it using a centrifuge machine to separate the different blood components into individual, concentrated layers that the clinician can use. Although several variations of this technology exist today that prioritize different blood components, the overarching concept in dentistry is the same — they use the patient’s own blood to enhance healing after oral surgery.

Photograph: Alamy
An explosion in thefts of catalytic converters from hybrid cars has left hundreds of owners of the vehicles unable to drive them because of a shortage of replacement parts, the Guardian has learned.

Criminal gangs are believed to be targeting easily identifiable models such as the Toyota Prius and Lexus 400h, because hybrids contain more precious metals than other vehicles.

Toyota said it had experienced a 2,000% increase in demand for parts as a result of the crimewave. While theft of the emission-controlling devices is a nationwide problem, it is particularly acute in London and south-east England. One Lexus dealership alone in the capital told the Guardian it had 500 on order, although it is not expecting to receive them until December.

There were 2,900 catalytic converter thefts reported in the first six months of this year, compared with just under 1,700 in the whole of last year, according to Metropolitan police figures provided to the Guardian.

Palmers Green Police
@MPSPalmersGreen
· Sep 15, 2019
Burglary, Dorchester Ave, 2-3.09am Mon 9th. Three men forced the side gate and rear patio door open and took the safe and contents.

On Thurs 12th two Toyota Prius' had catalytic converters taken. One on Farndale Ave, 10-11am. The other on New River Crescent, 4am-3pm. Back on 1/2

Palmers Green Police
@MPSPalmersGreen
2/2 Thurs 5th a Toyota Prius on Davey Close had it catalytic converter taken.

On Ulster Gardens, 3-4am on Thurs 12th a black Toyota, reg WU18KZR was taken by relay attack. Please keep an eye out for it.
View image on Twitter

2
6:25 AM - Sep 15, 2019
Twitter Ads info and privacy

See Palmers Green Police's other Tweets

The surge in thefts is believed to be linked to the soaring value of two of the metals used in catalytic converters, rhodium and palladium, with gangs stripping the parts and selling them overseas. Rhodium is trading at double its price at the start of the year and more than eight times its 2016 value.

Guardian Today: the headlines, the analysis, the debate - sent direct to you
Read more
As well as hybrids having higher amounts of precious metals, their catalytic converters tend to be in better condition because they are not used when the vehicles run on electricity.

In response to inquiries on its website, a Toyota UK customer services agent wrote on Wednesday: “We have seen a 2,000% rise in demand for parts due to the recent crime wave for catalytic converters in certain areas of the UK. We, and our supply chain, are unable to keep up with demand for this essential part.”

The website says some Prius and Auris hybrid models “have been a particular target”.

Customers have posted about the difficulties in replacing the part, with some complaining there was insufficient warning about the risk of theft.

RobW wrote on Monday: “It’s been six weeks now without my car since the cat on my Auris Hybrid was stolen – just 10 miles from the Derby factory. The car is at the Toyota dealer and they have no ETA [estimated time of arrival] on when the part will be available to fit. They have three other cars with the same problem.”

Another driver said their insurance company had told them it could be three months to source a replacement, while one said a garage in Yeovil had been unable to tell them when it would be available.

In many instances thieves have operated in broad daylight, with some instances caught on camera.

Lincolnshire Police
✔
@lincspolice
We would like to speak with these men in connection with a theft from a car. On August 8th three male suspects approached a parked car in St Paul’s Car Park, St Paul’s Lane, Lincoln, and made off with the exhaust and catalytic converter. Call 101. http://ow.ly/L4Em50w3Vy8
View image on TwitterView image on Twitter

7
6:31 PM - Sep 10, 2019
Twitter Ads info and privacy

28 people are talking about this

Ironically, the increase in cost of the metals has been driven by their use in catalytic converters, with the automotive industry accounting for about 85% of demand for rhodium and palladium.

James Clark, senior press relations manager at Toyota UK, said such thefts were not limited to the company’s products, but added: “The recent rise in the value of such parts for recycling has meant that police forces have seen a very significant rise in these offences in the last few months.

“This sudden rise is one we could not have envisaged set against many years of low incidents of theft. This has impacted our ability to source enough of the parts we need in some cases, for which we sincerely apologise; but we are taking urgent action to address this with our suppliers.’

He said the company had posted guidance online for customers and sought to contact them, in some cases through dealers. It has also introduced a “catloc” device, to help defer theft, at a reduced price, sought to minimise the cost of replacement and its French supplier has increased production.

What about the TESCO Ampang store!!

Its very common to see large rats running nonchalantly around the store, something that is unacceptable in any environment, least of all a supposed world leader in grocery and retailing. The main problem is in the rice and eggs section. The smell of rat urine is overwhelming in what should be an almost sterile environment.

Its a risk to shoppers, especially the huge numbers of small kids always running about the store, and to public health in general.
As a multinational company with a high brand value and reputation they should need to protect, its irresponsible and unacceptable.

Surely someone (apart from me) has reported this to the DBKL Health Authorities requiring the store operator to immediately eliminate the problem - its not rocket science - as the store serves a vast area and thousands of people daily.
Or do they only react to being shamed into action via the media?
