Is it worth it to take a pay cut for people manage

Dear all, seeking for some advice here. I'm in my mid-30s, holding a senior manager title but really still an individual contributor. Through my 20s I was in consulting and have led teams multiple times, but at 30 I joined a commercial firm as an individual contributor and have stayed as such since, even after a promotion. (my skills are tech - SAP, Power BI, some practical FP&A knowledge + project management)

My fear is down the line, if I am made redundant via cost cutting or something of the sort, it will be hard for me to get any senior role due to a lack of people management experience in a commercial setting.

Would it be a good idea for me to take a pay cut for a role in finance or tech where I can get some direct reports, so I don't run into trouble when I'm older? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

What side business have you seen people do well

As per the topic, I'm wondering what side business have you seen people do successfully at. Not necessarily that it rocketed up and made millions but a steady few k a month is also successful in my books.

I'm thinking of starting one myself but I seem to have 0 of the skills that I've heard people do ok at (e.g. photography or F&B).

So I'm trying to date this girl I really like, but no guarantees it will work out of course.

As a guy, what age do you think I should just give up / settle for whichever girl will take me? I'll be 35 this year come my birthday. So wondering is there a hard expiry date for guys or not.

How do you guys mitigate covid risk to family?

Hi guys, so wanted to get your advise here. Basically I stay with family, we've all completed our covid shots. However due to their age, they're still at a higher risk if they catch the virus.

The issue here is, how do I go out say for a cup of tea with friends, but keep the risk to them as low as possible? I've thought of 2 ways only so far:

1. Rent a co-living space, stay there for a few days after each time I go out, then self test before I come home.
2. Self-isolate in my own room for a few days after each time I go out, then self test before i re-emerge (this is probably less safe though)

Let me know if you have any better ideas please.

How to buy SG REITs in Malaysia

So I'm thinking of buying some Singapore REITS for steady passive income. Is the only way to do so from Malaysia to go through a broker? Or any other way we can manage it ourselves? Preferably online.

Put money in Stashaway right now or later

Hi guys,

I've just opened an account in Stashaway and put to the highest risk settings (36%), so the portfolio is equity heavy and weighed more towards China and the US. So due to work-related reasons, I have around 50k to put in now and another 50k fairly soon.

Do note that most of my other portfolio is in property so it's relatively stable, that's why I'm going for the highest risk setting in Stashaway.

So my question is: as now the market seems very high, should I wait for it to drop before throwing all the money in? Or just put in immediately?

Another course of action that has occurred to me is to put all the money in but put the risk settings to the lowest, then if the market crashes set it back to the highest. Not sure if this makes sense or not.

Thanks!

So I read this story online, got this uncle often post in the relatives whatsapp group asking if anyone can lend him money. But nobody ever choi him.

One day the nephew started working then felt sorry for the uncle, so he messaged the uncle privately saying he could lend him some.

Then the uncle said "oh its ok thanks no need, I just put that so that nobody will ask me to lend them money".

How much money you give to charity

I'm wondering how much money you guys give to charity normally? Over the last 2 months I gave about 500 (200 to an online foundation for people affected by the MCO, 300 to an OKU center). Feel it's quite low.

Do you guys have a % or something? Or just see mood?

I feel stuck in my career - advise wanted

Hi guys,

Recently I've been feeling rather stuck in my career. Right now I'm in a role where I handle IT systems from the Finance point of view, the job itself isn't bad and my boss is very nice, but I feel that if I stay a couple more years in this role, there may not be a lot of growth potential. The key issues are:

1. I don't have fixed staff of my own to manage - there are a few people who I can assign tasks to and oversee the output of their work, but none of them are solely assigned to me. Basically I'm sharing a pool of helpers. Originally there were plans to get one dedicated to me, but lately the company's performance hasn't been that great so that might be out for now.

2. As I'm not specialized in either IT or Finance, but rather sort of a hybrid of both, it's hard for me to find a path to aim towards - I'm not good enough in tech to be a CTO / CIO, neither am I good enough in Finance to be a CFO.

Due to this, I'm a bit worried about my future progress. Right now I would say I'm in a mid-to-low end managerial role, but I'd like to start climbing towards senior management as I'm in my early thirties now. With my current skill set a hodgepodge of Finance, SAP and other related systems such as Enterprise Performance Management, Dashboards etc, I'm really not sure which way to climb towards.

If any of you more experienced folks out there can give any guidance / advise, it would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Slim fit shirts

Lately I find that I like slim fit t-shirts better than regular ones, as the regular type just seems to be abit baggy in the midsection. I got one slim cut one at Zara on a discount earlier, but when I went back today to check it cost RM70 normally, which seems a bit pricey for a t-shirt. Any idea where I can get cheaper ones? I asked in Uniqlo but the assistant said they have no slim fit shirts at all, which was quite disappointing.
